  • I had a dream last night that I owned a golden Labrador called "King" and he was such a good, gentle and kind boy.

I've never owned a dog. Our house and yard are not suitable for a dog... But I kinda wish King was real.

  • Mr Woof must have sensed I was thinking of moving the dog bed on the floor that he doesn't use as he is curled up in it tonight. I guess it stays where it is after all.

He does know how to do cute.

  • About to go on holidays, and the longest time away from work for quite some time and man, I gotta tell you, I'm feeling down af. I don't know why. Hoping that when I finally get away that it'll change my mood.

    • Be careful of what you wish for, your low mood might be because you know deep down inside that you'll enjoy your time away so much that when you come back you'll feel even worse...

Jk - I do hope you get the best of it all, refreshed and energised in a way that sustains you after you come back.

      • God, isn't that the truth though - we've had this trip booked since, I think May? But also in a way this trip is a bit of a signpost since I know when I get back (even though it's the end of the year) there's a few hard truths I need to think about and act upon. There's the smallest dust mote inside trying to tell me that there's a massive possibility that the path before me, whichever I choose, will be really good. I gotta find that little dude a megaphone so he can shout it a little louder for the people in the back.

    • Enjoy your time away mate. Relax and spend some time with Mrs J.

      • Thank you - I definitely need the time off, I know that much. As does Mrs J. I wanna turn this mood around for her if nothing else :)

  • Got my "Peony Bouquet" wax melts delivered today and with no shock to anyone, they're super florally. I'm not completely sure these really fit my whole vibe but I'm still going to melt them flowery motherfuckers nonetheless.

  • I was hoping for pakidge today, but sadly it's not looking likely. The air will have to remain unfried for a bit longer. The rest of the week should be pakidge full however, as I'm expecting seven deliveries 😁

  • The young Seagoons ( they are only in their 30s 😉) are coming to stay for a few weeks before they move to NZ for a few years so I have heaps of cleaning and organising and probably shopping. Happy they are staying, sad they are leaving, but we'll see them again and NZ is a great adventure for them, which is so cool. 😊

  • I am kinda loving the first page of my home screen at the moment so I thought I'd show it off. You can see the Google Calendar widget has seen the colour scheme of my wallpaper and made itself brown. Inside the Boost Lemmy app it has actually done the same thing which is awesome.

iPhone users, can your toys do widgets yet? I haven't been keeping up with iOS updates for ages.

  • Despite having to do some work today I feel heaps better, I swear to God it's because there's some real sun... and I think taking the melatonin last night helped somehow.

  • Sorry about the rain on your morning commute folks, I watered my plants in with Charlie carp because there was a smidgeon of sun and I forgot to check the forecast

  • Do I want to pull the trigger on this? I have no other ideas for what to do with myself over this time period and I really don't want to end up sitting at home at my computer. I've never been on a P&O cruise but I have been on 2 cruises with the same itinerary, which is the South Pacific islands.

    • I reckon yes - it looks like it would be an incredible thing to do. Who knows, it could be the start of a great tradition!

      • All booked! Sorted out my work leave, travel insurance, etc. Now just to figure out which, if any, drinks packages I want and arrange transport to and from Sydney.

I don't really drink like I used to and for $99 a day I'm not sure I'll get the use out of it. I do love to have a frozen pina colada on me at most times of the day on a cruise though...

Tempted to just get the $25 one and pay for booze as I go.. but I dunno

  • So over the last few months on RES I've tagged what I consider suspicious profiles as "voice cooker". Going back through the list, about 1/3 are now deleted, banned, suspended. About 1/3 have stopped posting after posting pretty much all day long about the voice. About 1/3 have moved onto different subreddits wildly unrelated to the topic.

that's not suss at all 🤨

  • Annoyed because I want to try actually watching the classic slashers for Halloween, if I’m not too much of a wuss that is. (I know bits because of cultural permutations and am curious but never actually watched them.)

But a lot of even the older movies and shows have been completely scrubbed from YouTube by DMCA. (It seems the full run of Buffy I watched over lockdown might be gone now.) There’s not much worth watching on Tubi, public TV is just a vehicle for ads even if I still had a telly, I don’t yarr and I am not getting a streaming service. Fuckem.

I genuinely miss video rentals. I used to get a bundle of 5 weekly videos for $10 and watch them while eating dinner.

Edit: Has anyone tried Plex? It says it’s free with ads and is legal. But does it make you sign up or download anything, and is it at all shady?

Kanopy is being discontinued due to the high cost to libraries. I never even did that… couldn’t be stuffed setting it up and my local libraries are difficult for me to get to in person

    • I've been a Plex user for yeeeeeeeears. It's a legit app/service but you can feed it not-legit sources. I used Plex to organise and play downloaded torrented movies/tv shows until very recently. You can also hook up to other people's Plex servers and play their less-than-legit content, usually for a fee, however I've never done that. There is some public domain type content available through Plex itself but I've never used it.

I now use Real-Debrid (costs moneys, I think it was something like $16 for 3 months) through an app called Streamio instead of downloading torrents. I used this guide to set it up. That's for content which isn't available on the streaming services I pay for, that is.

      • Stremio + Torrentio + real debrid makes it so easy and RD is honestly worth the money, can use it on desktop or on Firestick/Chromecast. The real debrid site might look shady but just use a throwaway email and even a prepaid visa/mastercard to pay for it as a once off - I'm confident it's good enough to go security wise.

Easy explanation of debrid services here, melbaboutown. Anything you stream is a direct download through the RD servers not the torrent so it's not like you can be nabbed from a list of seeds/peers

      • +1 for real-debrid. I use it in combination with the Seren add-on for Kodi. Works brilliantly.

    • plex user here, it has some good free stuff, you can add your own stuff too. Not shady.

For some movies I buy cheap dvds from op shops, $1 or 2 each.

  • Gosh, I was falling asleep at my desk at work today. I don't know what it was, I had coffee, I had my ADHD medication. Tried to walk around to wake me up. But an hour after I took my afternoon ADHD meds my body was like "okay it's wake up time!" ... ugh.

Though to add, I've gone to bed later than I did last night and I've been fine. So I have no idea why I was so bloody sleepy. But in good news, my planner arrives tomorrow or Wednesday so I'm pumped. I'm also looking at a bunch of Etsy stores that sell printable planner stickers because it's cheaper IMHO to buy printable stickers and then use Mum's cricket machine since the only thing I need to buy more of is the sticker paper.

  • Extra soggy out there today. Took Mr Woof for a walk (fully coated up, of course) and managed to time it pretty well between showers - it was a bit drizzly, but not too wet. Then I went back out by myself to grab some hard rubbish I saw on the way, and it decided it was a great time to bucket down. Not fun, but I now have a metal frame from some sort of shelving unit that will work perfectly as a cage for my tomato, saving me the time I was going to spend building one from bamboo.

  • Reading your comments so far this morning I'd expect to see dark skies and rain but it's sunny and blue here in Docklands. I've just opened the balcony door and bedroom window. Breeze is a bit fresh but I think I must have missed the winterpocalypse reported.

    • Finger's crossed that's coming my way. Although I have pretty much written the day off as an indoors day, if there is a bit of sun I will definitely be tempted outside.

      • It seems the blue skies were short lived.. clouds just rolled in and I hear the rain starting. If that blue sky does appear you've got maybe 30-40 minutes of it lol

  • Back at work for half an hour and already have a headache before getting through my inbox. Liquid dinner predicted.

  • Well, technically the hole was already there and I just uncovered it. Now I have to work out what to do with a big hole in the floor of my wardrobe. It's the old return air duct from long dead ducted heating, and it was a pain to pull out - it started off well with just undoing some screws, but one side was nailed down, then had the strip for the carpet nailed on top as well.

I'm thinking probably a piece of MDF and a carpet mat on top, and maybe something like corflute or thin plastic taped over the hole in the back wall, given it is not very visible (and the wall is masonite, not plaster). For now it just has the ugly space-stealing chipboard box cover back over the top of it to make sure Mr Woof does not use it as an excape route, but it would be nice to have that bit of space useable.

  • Rewatching Utopia (UK) and forgot and how terrifyingly horrid it is. Also the casting of Anna Madeley and Ruth Gemmel in their respective roles was such an excellent choice, they really do look eerily the same (someone should actually cast them as twins one day).

    • I loooooove me some UK Utopia. Have you watched the US abomination? If not.. don't. Just... don't.

      • I'm a huge UK TV nerd and my general rule of thumb is to never watch US remakes.

One of favourite shows Ghosts (made by the Horrible Histories gang) was redone by the US and they basically turned it into shitty sitcom.
