  • My wife runs a large online D&D guild, with games 4-5 nights a week (not that you play in all of them, they just have that many people). They're no strangers to kicking people that cause drama, and they have several trans and non-binary members already.

I will say that they might not be able to bring their character in, as-is, if it's heavily based on "official" D&D lore and sourcebooks. The group has spent 8 years building all their own lore and tuning some homebrew rules and classes. It's mostly built on the 5e foundation, though.

I believe this is where they'd go to apply.

  • Tell them to make inquiries to the D&D AL (Dungeons & Dragons Adventurer's League), formerly known as the RPGA (Role Playing Gamer's Association - they may have seen mention of it in promotional materials found alongside D&D 3rd Ed. manuals and other products like Dungeon Magazine, or Dragon Magazine before they stopped publication).

This is assuming that you mean D&D campaigns run online (VOIP, Discord, and/or Foundry), and not the D&D Online MMORPG, of course. Barring that, and taking your unknown geographical location into account, they may also be able to find organized/advertised gaming groups by making the rounds of all of your nearest brick and mortar gaming/comic shops. They're well known as consistent sources for tournament organization for things like Warhammer and Magic: The Gathering as official retailers of said products alongside the D&D content released by Wizards of the Coast.

Tell them that I said good luck as well.

    Occultist v1.0.4 - Revamped Warlock (DnD5e and DnD2024 compatible)

    cross-posted from: https://lemmy.world/post/26364695

This is the finished version of my Occultist class, a revamped Warlock that's meant to refine and streamline the OG class.

The Warlock is my favourite class in the game, but its reliance on short rests to recharge spell slots and the pitiful amount of invocations known turn DnD’s most customizable class into a boring slog of “I cast Eldritch Blast” and “As my first invocations, I take Agonizing Blast and Devil’s Sight. Again”.
By adding the Patron’s expanded spell list (which goes up to 9th level) automatically to their spells known, gaining more invocations (10, compared to the OG Warlock’s 8) and rebalancing the invocations (including adding higher level Pact-exclusive invocations up to 14th level), the INT-based Occultist allows for much greater build variety, while retaining what made the original class so loved by many.

The 1.0 update includes four Pact Boons (Blade, Chain, Talisman, Tome), four subclasses (Arch

    Black Feather Rogue

Hello lovely people! We are proud to announce the release of a new subclass for rogues: the Black Feather Rogue.

Drawing upon the forces of natural magic, the Black Feather blends roguish cunning with druidic transformation to yield a formidable spy and skirmisher. In their raven form they can dodge attacks, find a safe perch, or reposition to make a sneak attack.

Feedback, opinions, and suggestions are always welcome.

How "Record of Lodoss War" Started as a D&D Game and Influenced Anime and Tabletop Gaming - Anime Herald

    cross-posted from: https://ani.social/post/7586224

    Some excerpts:

About Record of Lodoss War's origins:

Record of Lodoss War originally started as a TTRPG Replay, a written transcript of a tabletop RPG (TTRPG), with the first Lodoss War stories being a Replay for a Dungeons & Dragons campaign.

Reading the original Replays is oddly endearing. I expected the chit-chat, playful snipes at the DM, or even the reading of dice rolls to be cut out in order to make the players’ adventure read like an actual narrative and not a transcription. All of that stays in the Lodoss Replays, however. Everything from excitedly reading out dice results to the players’ reactions to twists in the narrative, to character creation itself, is kept in the text.

About its influence on Japanese TTRPGs:

Besides the good that Record of Lodoss War did for Group SNE as a company and the aesthetics of anime itself, it was also good for fostering a small but dedicated community of TTRP

Group got through a big fight

Playing the haunted house in Curse of Strahd, and our party was tracking down "baby Walter" in the sub-basement.

We made it to a sacrificial alter, when a bunch of ghostly cultists appeared and demanded "One must die. One must die."

We have a magic using zombie in the party, which was hanging back in the hallway. The cast disguise self to look like a living person, got on the altar for one of the other party members to run them through with a sword. We figured the zombie could be the most convincingly dead, and even if the sword did damage it wouldn't for real kill them. For the deception check the DM had the zombie player roll, they got a nat 20, so the ruse worked and the zombie didn't take any damage at all. The table went wild at this.

The specters disappeared, and Walter appeared from the murky water.

Do you make parties that can do everything?

Hey folks! What's better than having a party of optimized characters? Having a party of optimized characters that work well together! Let's look at the concept of T-shaped individuals and how they can help us create parties that are resilient, and can do anything.

  • I don't have a reference to how it was before, but I tried Beyond once and it was terrible. I cannot in good conscience recommend anyone to spend money on such a horrible piece of crap.

I have way more fun filling the character sheet by myself. I use Emmet Bryne's custom character sheets and the Spells 5e app when I need to reference spells.

How to not let PvP Wreck your D&D Game

Hey folks! Conflicts between player characters are very interesting when it comes to the narrative, but can be dangerous to the health of your gaming group. If you want PvP in your games, you best know how to do it safely. In this video we discuss some strategies to do just that. How do you navigate inter-party conflicts for drama that does not make your group implode?

  • The CEO constantly starves the D&D team. They don’t have the budget they need to make a good product.

Respectfully, I disagree. I've seen much better 3rd party content from smaller creators who charge less than WotC and offer much better value. As much as I'm sorry for those who were laid off, the problem with the DnD team is not their meagre numbers, but their lack of care for the brand.

The DnD team (which consisted of both writers and playtesters) had ten years of consistent player feedback on 5e, and one and a half year of OneDnD playtest, and only did the bare minimum. You don't need hundreds of people to write a rules update. Heck, it took me (only me, a single person with no collaborators or playtesters) a week to write a replacement for the 5e fighter, and I recon I did a fairly decent job. There were Monk revisions floating around that were miles better than the abomination that they attempted to push in UA6. Heck, I also wrote my Monk revision during that time, and it took me about two/three days at most. During the playtest, Crawford claimed that the Warlock's Pact of the Chain was never meant to be as "spicy" as Pact of the Blade or Pact of the Tome, which is bullshit (it was clearly presented as an equal option to the other two); instead of rebalancing Chain and Talisman, they just folded the Pact Boons into the Invocation system and called it a day (again, lazy game design). I did that for my homebrew Warlock in about... half a week of brainstorming?

I could go on, but the point is, I would expect those who are paid to create content for the game and do it for a living to do better than what I can do for free in my spare time.

You don't have to be a trained actor to roleplay well

Hey folks! Here's an approach to roleplaying / finding your character's motivation that you've probably not seen in a D&D or TTRPG setting before. A lot of us, I think, could fall into the skyrim stealth archer trap. We start our campaigns thinking we're gonna play a PC that's unique. But as the sessions go by, we find out that we've been "roleplaying" ourselves after all. With this approach, we learn about the CHAMPFROGS - ten moving motivators that make up most people. With them, we can hopefully stop roleplaying ourselves, and instead graduate to Capital R roleplaying (if that's what we want to do of course - you're not doing it wrong if you're having fun).

Values vs. Technique: What Makes a Great GM?

Hey folks! We often praise our DMing heroes for their many skills like improv, enhancing immersion, compelling roleplay of believable NPCs, and the like. There are resources aplenty for how to speak in accents, how to not use accents but still have distinct voices, how to plan campaigns, or speed up combat encounters. But are these skills really what make our favorite DMs great? I argue no. I believe great DMs begin with a foundation of values that guide how they use their skills, and I discuss my version of those values here.

Are You In A Dysfunctional D&D Group?

Hey folks! This week we explore a potentially controversial topic: Is your D&D Group dysfunctional? If you have that nagging feeling that something is not working well in your gaming group, but you can't quite put your finger on what it is, then this video will hopefully expand your vocabulary and set you on the path to making things better.

I say it in the video, but I will also write it down here explicitly. A dysfunctional group does not mean it's a group made of bad people. It's just a group that does not function as well as it should.

A DM Screen System that ACTIVELY helps you run games

Hey folks, here's a different way of organizing your notes for your campaigns. It actively helps you run the game, rather than just being a big document for you to read. The system only has two rules to follow, but you would be surprised at how much it helps when it's time to actually play. The method itself is also quite powerful when you use it to organize your to do list, especially during the times in your life when things get a bit hectic and overwhelming. I hope it helps!

    Regarding OC Posts and Advertising

Greetings DnD, @Devil_Master and I are bringing this topic to the community as a whole for discussion rather than making an executive decision like we had to on Piracy.

    • The Question

While this has not become an issue yet, it would be a good idea to start this discussion now rather than later. So, the question is, where will we as a community draw the line between OC and Homebrew posts, and advertising.

    • Why This is an Issue

This community is an open space for everyone to share their ideas, questions, stories, art, maps, homebrew, ANYTHING relating to Dungeons and Dragons (within the rules). We do not want to discourage anyone from posting, BUT we have to draw this line because no one wants to be spammed with advertisements.

That being said, there are those who create content for sale on various platforms, which is by no means a bad thing and entirely expected when someone puts their heart and soul into OC co
