There seems to be a problem joining the matrix room
I keep getting this error in element
MatrixError: [403] You do not belong to any of the required rooms/spaces to join this room. (https://matrix.org/_matrix/client/v3/join/%23librewolf%3Amatrix.org?server_name=matrix.org&via=matrix.org)
Anybody else?

@MajesticElevator
System1 is an advertising company. Waterfox has been influenced by them. How can a browser that claims to be privacy-oriented be under an advertising campaign? It's as if Chrome suddenly started caring about user privacy.
The story is from '23 and I have no interest in Waterfox. I use Firefox with user.js - a custom configuration settings file taken from Github.

@MajesticElevator What, Waterfox?
I also see the space with 3 rooms and I also get the error.

Did newtab settings for topSites change with 136.0.2-1?
Does anyone know if anything changed with the new tab settings?
I used to have this custom userContent.css to add more columns to topSites described below, but it is no longer working after I updated :/
https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1430289
folder named "chrome" and file named "userContent.css" are still there

edit: If anyone has any suggestions to add more columns to topSites, let me know edit2: solved

Change logo on "about:logo" page?

I was able to change the new tab favicon on LibreWolf with CSS:
/newtab favicon/ .tab-icon-image[src="chrome://branding/content/icon32.png"] { content: url("librewolf-NO8X71.png") !important; }
But I'd also like to be able to change the logo that appears on the "about:logo" page (looks like lemmy.world's CSS page is locked for now, so I'm asking here). Anyone know how to do this?
I kiped the logo from LibreWolf's reddit page, it's by u/NO8X71; tell me it's not the coolest thing you've ever seen! Wish I'd done it.
Should I allow canvas access? How do I do it?
Please be mindful when allowing canvas access as it is a very strong fingerprinting vector; however, if you are already logged into a website you shouldn't stress too much about giving it canvas access because they already know who you are.
Canvas can be handled on a per-site basis thanks to RFP. You will be prompted for access next to the URL bar, so look for the icon there.

Why am I seeing striped images?
If you see striped images in your browser, that's most likely caused by the fact that the website needs canvas access to display them properly. Check out how to allow it.

How to join Librewolf Matrix room?
Was wondering why no new messages turned up, since tuesday or something. Turned out the Librewolf Matrix room is changed / upgraded or something like that. It involves joining once again. But both in Element and Fluffy clients I get this error:
MatrixError: [403] You do not belong to any of the required rooms/spaces to join this room. (https://matrix-client.matrix.org/_matrix/client/v3/join/!AMixpitUKQHatikSri%3Amatrix.org?server_name=matrix.org&server_name=envs.net&server_name=fedora.im&via=matrix.org&via=envs.net&via=fedora.im)
Is there a way to join the matrix chat room one again?
I do see the space with the 3 rooms.

Please bring back the performance analysis tool

In 2022, Mozilla replaced their performance analysis tool (screenshot source) with an externally dependent tool called "Firefox Profiler". It is not integrated in Firefox but depends on an external web app, which is bad.
Please bring back the original "Performance" tool in the developer tools.

Feature suggestion: Import/Export exceptions for Enhanced Tracking Protection
Ideally, it would be nice if the list of website exceptions to Enhanced Tracking Protection was synced to the Mozilla account, but an alternative would be the ability to export and import your list once it's established. This would be handy for using Librewolf across multiple devices or if you need to do a fresh install.

This is very weird, are using the default lemmy interface? I dont think the default lemmy interface has anything special so not sure why it would be acting like this.
You could use firefox only for apps that do not work well with librefox. Or try an alternative lemmy frontend like photon or voyager or tesseract or old lemmy (I forgot what the project is called).

Profilemanager opening nothing

Background: I use profiles frequently to separate work, home and other things. In some profiles I use other DRM and fingerprint settings etc Also I switched from installing from flathub to manual (https://librewolf.net/installation/debian/)
Issue: Since a couple of weeks, some profiles dont start. Choosing them will amount to nothing. Librewolf doesnt start, not in the background nor in the foreground. Choosing another profile and after that, the intended one sometimes works around the issue.
Research:
The installs.ini shows the default profile TWO times:
[AA67A15BF0F93AE3] Default=Thuis Locked=1
[6C4726F70D182CF7] Default=Thuis Locked=1
Both installs are also mentioned in profiles.ini.
Question:
- Is having 2 install entries the cause? Because the profilemanager doesnt know what to do?
- Should I remove one of them but which? Opening the /.librewolf/Thuis profile doesnt give information which one is in use. Or I dont know where to look. Assuming this will he
I'm having the same problem. There are bugs about it open with the developers, so presumably it'll be fixed at some point.
Search Icons are missing again #2227
Icons are missing from custom search engines added from settings #2261
In the meantime, I was able to make my search bar presentable by installing the "Search Engines Helper" plugin and manually adding the search engines that are having favicon problems, then going into the search engine settings and removing the checkmarks for the broken ones.
@Flmaker Oh, I see. So you will need something like registering librefox standalone exe as if it was actually installed the usual way.
github.com/SiL3NC3/PortableReg…

You can accomplish this using userContent.css stylings.
Dark mode for the pdf itself can be accomplished by following this blog guide.
Once set up, you can then paste additional stylings to get the background and sidebar whatever color you prefer. Here is my userContent.css.
The commented out lines towards the bottom are for the sidebar (I personally didn't change the sidebar).
Hope this helps.

@banazir @petrescatraian yes, but easy exceptions to specific URL will be great. I had to turn off RFP because all my corporate webs had issues with dates, languages...
I assume you're specifically talking about Mullvad Browser, not just Mullvad in terms of, say, their VPN standalone.
I'd recommend you check out Privacy Tests for the specific details on things like tracking prevention, but to summarize, it's nearly identical to Librewolf in most common categories. However, since it's a fork of the Tor Browser, keep in mind that:
- There will be weird borders/spacing around sites, making them smaller than your browser, since that makes most Mullvad Browser users all appear to have an identical aspect ratio, which further prevents tracking, but can make sites a bit less usable.
- There's no built-in password manager, so you need to use your own.
- They don't support Firefox sync. (although unofficial bookmark syncing services do exist, such as Floccus)
- Some sites can look blurry because of some fingerprinting protection features
- Some third party extensions may fail to work properly, because they rely on the non-available Sync services.
- There's no mobile app.
- Your time zone is always spoofed to UTC so the way a site that depends on your current time could cause issues for you.
- Many fonts and hardware APIs are removed, so some sites that interact with peripherals may fail, and some sites may display incorrectly.
- All cookies are cleared between sessions. If you want to stay signed into sites without signing in every time you re-open your browser, you're out of luck.
- Some default extension functionality that normally comes bundled with Firefox is removed. (e.g. the screenshot tool)
If you're cool with getting a little extra protection in exchange for those sacrifices, go with Mullvad. If you just don't want to use Firefox, but want a more private variant you can still use relatively easily in everyday life, go with Librewolf.
And remember, it's always okay to have more than one browser, where you use the more privacy-preserving one for sensitive tasks when needed, then drop to the less privacy-preserving one for more everyday work. You can always have both.

@hmmm @bountygiver @Valmond I use #LibreWolf on desktop and #DuckDuckGoBrowser on Android.
Well @[email protected] used to post in here, and he was an active Librewolf developer, see his first post on this very same community, and he still is one of the moderators, though I believe he's no longer around, 🙁

There's no mobile version, use Ironfox instead; they're both FF-based so you can sync between them.

@kooltechlord I was just looking into this, as I just changed following the whole Mozilla fiasco. Wonderful!

👍 Just switched over to LibreWolf as a protest vote against Mozilla 🐺

That's why I use Waterfox as my main browser and LibreWolf as my secondary for quick searches and things I want to be separated.

I don’t care about adoption line go up, and I agree with Mozilla’s founder that adding DRM to Firefox was Mozilla’s original sin.

Old post but it looks like its there: (Warning, Bad Place ahead)

Can anyone get noclip.website to work?
Hi,
recent firefox refugee here, and I'm trying to figure out how to get webgl fully working. I already disabled webgl.disabled
in about:config, and that seems to have done the trick for most webgl content.
However, the site noclip.website doesn't work. It's basically a 3D model viewer for game maps, and all I get is a black screen. This site works fine in Firefox on this same machine.
I'm using LibreWorld 135.0.1-1 Flatpak on Linux
Thanks!
EDIT:
Here are the log messages in the console. No errors, just a bunch of WebGL warnings:

PiP-window always on top? (Arch Linux/KDE/Plasma) (EDIT: solved, user id10t error)
Hi all
Trying to make a switch over to librewolf, but currently the "most mission critical issue" is that I can't seemingly force the PiP -videoplayer to stay on top of all other windows.
My kwin window rule is essentially identical, apart from window class, to the old one I used with Firefox - and that one worked just fine. Not sure if kwin, librewolf or user id10t issue.
But if anyone has thoughts or pointers about this, please share!
the settings as they are now:

edit: I absolutely hate this. IMMEDIATELY after posting I tinkered a bit and turns out "Match whole window class" = Yes -setting was the thing. It works now. DERRRRP.
So in case anyone else stumbles on the same issue, check that setting.

The new "Terms of Use" and the modified privacy notice have crossed a red line, I do no longer give Mozilla the benefit of doubt.

I've been a user of Librewolf for a about a year now, and it's always served me pretty well as a nice easy way to get a hardened Arkenfox Firefox.
However, recently I was curious why Librewolf wasn't recommended on PrivacyGuides, and took a look through their reasoning on their forum. That thread spans multiple years, and for the most part I thought their reasons for not including it were a bit unfair, especially after Librewolf started offering automatic updates.
But towards the end of that thread in October, a Privacy guide team member posted a link to the Arkenfox github issue tracker, where a Librewolf team member reveals how the project appeared to have lost steam after a critical member left, and they are [struggling to keep it up to date](https://github.com/arkenfo

Does LibreWolf have add-on signing?
I hope not. Add-on signing is a glorified backdoor. Not only does it let Mozilla remotely disable extensions, but in future, governments can force Mozilla to censor unwanted extensions.
In addition, it is a privacy violation, since Mozilla can see who has installed which add-on.
[…] when Firefox contacts Mozilla servers to verify if Mozilla approved each extension, it discloses to Mozilla which extensions are in use. So in addition to being a backdoor by definition, it is a severe privacy violation as well. This comes from an organization that perpetually claims to champion user freedom and privacy.

And let's not forget about a certain May 2019 incident:
all Firefox addons have been disabled due to an expired certificate. And so, people got silently hit with stuff like this when turning their "private and secure" browser on. It was only a matter of time until Mo

Awesome, @librewolf is in the #FreeBSD package repository.

In light of the new "AI WOW!" approach in the Firefox nightlies, I've installed #LibreWolf on my Linux machine at home, my Windows work laptop and corp VMs desktop.

Thankfully, they include a portable version so I can run it on the corporate machines. Though, the windows LibreWolf-Portable.exe had some issue on the VM about determining 32/64 bit, I just ran the LibreWolf/librewolf.exe directly.
I haven't messed with setting up corp proxy yet. That's tomorrow.

"Firefox was created in 2002 under the codename 'Phoenix' by members of the Mozilla community who desired a standalone browser rather than the Mozilla Application Suite bundle."
Remember those halcyon Phoenix days? I do.
They were all too short lived.
Now even Firefox forks such as @librewolf seem to be sitting on their thumbs, thinking maybe it's sufficient to merely option out offending lines of code.
Have decades of return to libc exploits meant nothing to developers?!
If you aren't going to branch to the code, don't leave it in the source! It is an attack surface laying dormant whether you realize it or not.
Is it more work? Sure.
Do the work!
LibreSSL didn't rip out tens of thousands of lines from OpenSSL without good reasons.
The dividends have been appreciable.

Hello @zenbrowser why I cant have the same protection using zen versus ?
Hello @zenbrowser why I cant have the same protection using zen versus @librewolf ?
I tested it with https://coveryourtracks.eff.org/
and still it says that zen is partially blocking some trackers.
I checked the settings, many things looks the same but apparently not enough...
If you have any information on this it will be great.
