  • I woke up a little late after being exhausted last night. I decided to go ahead and cook my big breakfast or in this case lunch.

I’ve got toasted bread, eggs under the bacon, some charred fried tomatoes, onion and mushrooms with some hash brown and a couple of sausages and also a little bit of Dino pasta.

Sorry about messiness of the plate and playing but here it is.

I have to say I’m stuffed now.

  • One disadvantage of living near the top of a hill is that the walk home is always upwards. A lot of walking to write a few letters on a piece of paper, but I did get to see some nice gardens on the way - one place in particular had a stunning native garden. I also got to pat a dog (a young excitable Husky, which I expect will be trouble in the future as the owner did not seem to have any idea how to deal with it, unfortunately).

    • We live in the top of a hill too.

I walked to vote this morning. The rest of the household drove. They bet me there and back by 30 seconds.

The walk back uphill was very tiring because they didn’t have Democracy Sausages at the Polling Station.

      • My walk was about 20 mins each way, so driving definitely would have been quicker. It would be half the time if I could walk direct, but there is a big sports complex and a school in the way I have to walk around.

  • I think I made the mistake of turning on to the abc’s vote counting broadcast.

Listening to a politician on his view about the No vote and how he talks makes me sick.

Of course they support the idea and everything about recognition and how there’s so many ways to word it but of course they’re opposed to the no vote for the same amount of reasons and words that all mean the same thing.

Political spin makes my head hurt.

I’m putting on a movie before the women’s afl or cricket starts.

  • Had to very awkwardly and very firmly tell a campaigner at my local to "leave me alone", they actually followed me through the gate attempting to shove pamphlets and crap at me.

    • I'm pretty sure they aren't supposed to do that. They're supposed to stay in designated areas and only offer pamphlets. They aren't supposed to coerce voters.

We had a guy camping at the end of the line handing out pamphlets to people joining the queue. Pretty sure he wasn't supposed to be there, either.

      • They aren't, there's a distancing rule, but with no one there to enforce it they get a bit rabid.

  • Next up on my to do list is a uni assignment, so I think I'm going to go op shopping...

Edit: local op shop had absolutely nothing interesting today. I might have to check out the bigger Brotherhood one next to NQR during the week.

    • Don’t forget the procrasti-cleaning

      • I can't do that, it's on the list after the uni work. So every time my brain goes "I could start on that tidying..." I have to reply with "just as soon as I tick off the assignments".

  • Lunch toastie: lamb, tomato relish, sauerkraut and two cheeses (chedder and an unidentified hard white cheese), on a dark capeseed bread.

    • Never heard of a sandwich with those ingredients and it looks amazing. Did you invent that?

      • It's a variation based very loosely on a Reuben sandwich. I find the sauerkraut works really well with those types of ingredients, and my current batch is made with some fennel which adds some extra depth of flavour too.

      • It needs a name.

I vote the Lambish krauter toastchee.

  • Does anybody else think that Albo kind of half-arsed this? I don't wish him to resign but jeez I hope he puts in more effort in future.

    • I think there’s a lot of pieces that led to this. Perhaps more information and presentation of what it means to vote yes.

Equally the No campaigns were quite awful for done of them and played on the ignorant and fears of people.

A lot of people were too easily swayed into the no camp for a myriad of reasons I feel.

I don’t have the answers to it however.

      • What I observed was Lidia (as much as I disagree with what she says) voice her opinion in a passionate way on every program that I turned on all I heard from Our Leader was "it's up to the Australian people. I'm sure they will do the right thing". Where's the passion? Where's the leadership? I'm very disappointed.

    • Albo didn’t even 1/4 ass this. The things been dead in the water for months. Fear was always gonna win in the face of no response from yes.

    • He showed no ass.

I like the bloke as a person, but as a PM he's not really showing enough leadership.

The voice is a great idea but definitely needed fleshing out and actively promoting it from day 1.

Also, given all the other issues Austrians are facing right now, this was the wrong time for the referendum.

    • Well, it's not really his job. He promised to bring the question to the voters, and he did that. That should have been all he needed to do. This isn't really meant to be his cause.

It also should have been brought years ago by either Abbott or Morrison. The Statement From the Heart was made in 2017.

This is why I was surprised when Mr Dutton spoke about a referendum rematch. His party sat on this topic for years.

    • I understand why Albo said he respects the decision of the Australian people.

But I fucking don't. People who voted no suck.

  • here's a positive, nothing has been lost, no rights have been lost, no money has been lost, no programs have been dismantled

this was just one thing and we can keep working in other ways

sadly, what may have happened is an increase in social division here, thanks to murdoch and russia . We must not let them write the narrative, we will not become Us vs Them. We are all Aussies.

    • I think what stresses me out the most is the thought of how easy it was for that divisive narrative to win. This was such a simple proposal in a way and it just seemed so easy for fear and disinformation to win. I really worry about what it means for the neslxt election etc.

(I know you don't have the answer just riffing off your comment)

      • it just seemed so easy for fear and disinformation to win.

This is not surprising. Answers are not complicated because humans are not really that complicated.

We have an aging population and it's a fact that as people age they feel fear, fear because they are physically weaker than when they were young, they also feel they don't fully understand society anymore and may be confused by all the changes. It's far too easy to appeal to the past , when old people felt stronger, and say the past was better etc etc

Better change will come when the population demographics changes , as the older boomers pass on. The younger people will act out of compassion, courage and a positive belief in the future again

But please remember the boomers also voted in Whitlam, not all are conservatives

      • Yeah it does feel really weird. Like same-sex marriage vote was a unanimous yes, and Labor's wins in both the Federal and State elections weren't landslides but they were better than majority thought. I understand that this one lost because there was so much misinformation, but it just feels so weird that it lost by a lot. So far only one state/territory has got a majority Yes. Victoria is always a pretty safe Progressive seat as of late, and while the inner electorates are mostly Yes and the regional electorates being No. It still feels weird that it's a majority No here.

      • (unless of course you do have the answer in which case all hail Seagoon_ I look forward to you long reign :) )

  • Have 4 of these things and it's the first time one of them has done something:

    Hooray.

    • lovely and the birds and bats and bees will have a feast 😊

    • I'd be keen to hear what comes of that purple flowered banksia that was in the news. I reckon it's just a local reaction to changed soil conditions but if it's genetic and heritable that would be pretty cool.

  • So fatigued and nauseous today. I almost booked a night up in Moama but I feel gross, so it looks like I'm just staying here fighting the urge to go back to bed.

  • Won the food cupboard bread trifecta this morning - English muffins, crumpets and fruit loaf! They had a ton of muffins especially today for some reason. It was odd, there was no normal bread, normally there is lots of plain bread and the others are an occasional treat. Good timing too, I'm almost out of muffins and I do like them with my eggs for breakfast.

  • My spooky playlist is behind and I am stupid tired today. I need to get a reign on this fatigue that seems to have reared up this year. On a random note, I’m impressed with the silicone moulds I purchased.

Hope everyone is okay this evening.

  • I think today is one of those days that needs a To Do List.

    • Walk the dog ✔️
    • Walk myself to the voting place ✔️
    • Cut up leftover lamb for the freezer ✔️
    • Gardening assignments ✔️ (sort of. I did one, putting the second off till later)
    • Plant the next lot of seeds
    • Rearange area the new fridge is going in so it will fit, or at least frown at the area thoughtfully whilst ineffectually moving odds and ends around

Somewhere in there I'll need to work out what to eat today, and eat it. Feeling a bit uninspired on that front so far.

Edit: eating is going well so far. English muffin with fried eggs and garlic mushrooms. I'm thinking probably a burger for dinner. Still undecided on lunch, but a lamb sandwich is probably a good option.

  • So chill voting down here on the bellarine compared to melbs.

Also added a bunch of shit to the chilli patch hoping for a better crop this year. Bit of dynamic poo, bit of super phosphate c'mon little chillos you got this.

  • Nothing quite says this has been a relationship of circumstance quite like an incoming departure, annoying habits blocked out become maddeningly unbearable once again.

Someone's habit of clearing their throat every 5-10 minutes might just send me postal before my time is up.

  • I was helping my daughter with a playlist for a friend's birthday party. I suggested Bob Marley. Got told partygoer's wouldn't know who Bob Marley is. WHO DOES NOT KNOW BOB MARLEY? What are parents teaching these kids? I'm disappointed. Also kid knows we're pretty cool. 😎

  • Dad is heading in to visit Mum at the hospital tomorrow (she broke her ankle, has to stay a while) so I might make them both some coffee and take it to them in my keep-hot cup. I think they'll like my coffee, I make it double shot. I hate having relatively early nights on a Saturday, I feel like a loser.. but I'm tired so (Mario style) heeere we go! zzz

  • Tonight, it's more Japanese - leftover miso soup, steamed broccoli with goma-ae and I made an attempt at tamagoyaki for the first time. It looks like a giant yellow turd but... The inside is perfectly textured and it tastes not bad at all if I say so myself! I still think it's not exactly easy to do, you have to get everything in place and work quickly between dabbing with oil, pouring, lifting and rolling, but it doesn't feel as impossible as it did...

  • got some movie music stuck in my head, not even sure what it is but what ever it is it's lovely 🤗😊🎶🎵

now I'm off to vote, 🤞🏻 yes
