  • I received the cat toys I ordered on Temu yesterday, and they seem to be a hit. I got one of those rings with trapped balls that roll around, and it is very light so moves around when she hits at the balls. I think that adds to the fun, and she seems quite convinced that there is a secret entrance to get at the balls from the inside as she keeps reaching in there to try and get them. The other toy is a small ball that vibrates periodically - I think its supposed to roll around by itself, but it just wobbles in place. That seems to be interesting enough for Miss Meow, and I think she believes it is an escaped ball from the ring toy as she has been playing with them together. I'm not sure how long it has before it is permanently lost under some furniture somewhere.

It does make me a bit sad I didn't realise her initial lack of interest in toys was because of the problems with her teeth. At least I can make it up to her a bit now. I might look into some other toys seeing as how well received these were.

  • All my stuff is out of my old place and into my new 🎉 just a couple of things to drop at Vinnies and the end of lease clean to go.

I am a bit ashamed of how dusty the carpet is behind where some of the furniture was, and I can see all the marks and cobwebs on the walls. How much pre-cleaning do you do before getting in the cleaners? I am paying a reasonable price but I feel bad I haven't done more. Should I go and vacuum / wipe everything down tomorrow?

  • Haven't been in Fitzroy in a while... Yong's Green Food has closed down! :( that's sad, many good memories of going there with friends from another era. It does feel really weird getting around on PT again after 4 years of driving, I feel like I'm going backwards inside but the surrounds are clearly different.

  • Home and in bed after an artsy afternoon and evening out. I thought I would feel like watching something but I actually really feel like books, which is great news for the pile of hideously overdue titles around the house. It was great getting out of the house and doing something a little different and mind-tickling.

But it made me reflect on my way home how desperately I want to be done with my job and my workplace; I shouldn't have stayed on on a casual basis. I need to finish this project asap and gtfo. I really am ready even to just sell everything up and go wwoofing for a year to catch up on all the things I never got to to when I was younger.

  • Pax day 2! Gosh, I didn't expect Rego to be hectic. I pretty much was on until my shift ended (I mean that's how shift work is lmfao but felt like there was no break to just breathe! Haha). Today is going to be even more hectic! But I am ready, locked and loaded.

Again, just checking in to say hi! Also was excited for tteokbokki last night, got it, and I just wasn't expecting how spicy it is. I should've gotten the non-spicy one. But I love tteokbokki so much 😭

Edit: also yesterday's final step count was 9.6k.

  • 6.5k run with the doggo this morning. My longest run for about a year, and I feel great. Doggo looks very happy too. Was 5 seconds off a 30min 5k, which I'm pretty chuffed about to be honest.

  • I'm told the Weezer concert went well. I ate a whole bag of Twirls while the little dog watched. Everybody's gone to bed.

  • I have some serious questions. Do you use bleach? And if so why and on what? I know what it is but I've never had the need to use it. Ever.

    • I use it sometimes to soak white shirts that didn't respond to peroxide soakers. Used rarely and diluted appropriately of course. The bleach water can be used to deodorise drains afterwards.

      • Interesting. See I've only ever used Napisan or I've soaped the shit out of something first then thrown it in the bucket of Napisan. I've never needed to use White King.

    • I use it to clean inside the toilet bowl (Domestos). It’s how my mum taught me and never thought to change my approach. Works really well I think.

      • I just use double strength vinegar. Sometimes I get adventurous and use toilet duck which has bleach in it but it's rare.

    • I shouldn’t but sometimes do. For soaking pure white things like cotton sheets with stains that didn’t shift with something else, or I pour a little into the toilet to soak. Or for something nasty.

Usually I just use laundry detergent, napisan, surface spray or soapy water.

    • No. Never have either. Napisan is plenty good enough for most things.

I can understand how it got to be 'usual', pre modern washing powder/liquid. But nowadays it just isn't needed imo. Using a blue bag on sheets and shirts isn't needed nowadays either. I do have a bottle of White King in the laundry, but I've only ever used it once to splash a 10% solution onto a brick wall that the local tom cats were spraying on.

      • I was perusing r/CleaningTips and someone was asking about bleaching sheets and I'm thinking why. I can understand in a commercial sense but not a domestic one.

As a kid I used to walk outside in my white socks and mum would be "you'll be scrubbing those". And scrub I did and inspect she did. So I know soap works. I even do it when my kid gets new shoes and leaves that black shit on her socks and they come out spotless.

I was just genuinely curious why people use bleach because I thought I was missing something.

    • I tried the blue domestos once but it tasted horrible. Never tried the green one though.

Seriously though I do use the blue one on my toilet and sometimes sink. I like the way it smells. It smells like dizzy.

  • I am addicted garlic toast at the minute, like badly addicted, I can feel my heart (and some of my other organs) crying out in dismay.

    • I had some cheesy garlic focaccia this afternoon and it was amaaazing. Focaccia was fashionable in the 90’s and seems to be making a comeback

  • Good start to the day - my Visa card reward for doing the milk study arrived and is now in Google Wallet waiting to be spent. I did have some issues getting it because the wallet was not installed in my phone, but I have now downloaded that (and paired my text messages with the tablet, as I initially didn't realise why the link didn't work and wanted to try opening it from there). Plus I still have the last $12 Coles voucher they sent during the study as I didn't need it for milk, for an extra bonus!

  • Getting proud dad vibes watching my daughter working out SkyBlock on Minecraft for the first time. Back in my day it was figuring out Rick Dangerous 2 on C64.

  • One uni assignment finished this morning, and I've sorted out my subject enrollment for next year. I was originally planning on doing a unit on Backyard Biodiversity, but after the gardening and house planning units I decided to swap in something completely different, and am doing "Living and Working with Cultural Diversity". I've also enrolled in another course after this, focusing on climate change - I was planning to do two subjects a semester, but the electives I want to do aren't available at the right time, so I have to do three subjects in first term next year.

If I'm still enthusiastic after that (and can get my financial ducks in a row) I plan to enroll in a double science (sustainability) and economics degree. Or maybe if there are still HECS waiver courses on offer I'll do another one of those - you can't get much better value than free!

  • Turns out we didn't win $60 Million last night. Ahh well, it probably would have introduced almost as many problems as it would have solved.
