  • Norwegians, and Danes for now but they plan to slowly open for more countries. Sweden next.

    The platform is called "Hudd". It's more locally minded, has no algorithms determining your feed, and is actually trying to focus on creating social relationships. I kind of like it, and have gotten my mom and dad on board.

    It's kind of amazing how calm European alternatives can be, without the constant rage bait engagements, and the shit-flinging. It's a lot like how Facebook used to be in the early days, where people just shares a picture of a sunset, or describe how their day is, or shares photos from a vacation.

    I might move on to others if better ones come along, but we'll see. There are going to be a lot of them popping up now, because the market is most definitely there.

  • I sure as hell trust EU consumer protections over american nonsense, and I will be creating a profile there. I've already opened an account on a norweagian based social media, that is slowly growing.

    I doubt any of these will explode over night, but an alternative is more than welcome.

Jeg synes ærlig talt den amerikanske administration er blevet monstrøs, og der lader ikke til at være nogen grænse for, hvad de vil gøre for at få deres vilje.

  • I think this is unfortunately a fair assesment, speaking as a Dane. They want independence, but with a territory under so much pressure, it is unfortunately looking less and less feasible in practice.

    What is worse is that right now they feel completely sidelined, as per Danish national media. They see the American propagonda machine throwing out that a deal has been made, and they feel betrayed, left out, in the cold, unsure of their future.

    One thing is for sure though: we will not compromise on their land and their right to decide their own future. It's a wild and weird situation. 1/3 of Greenlanders also live in Denmark, and vice versa, looking at the news while two small countries try to cement some sort or deal through high level negotiation.

    For now it's probably best kept out of media though so our countries can figure it out without the orange clown dancing on our doorstep.

But I honestly think Rutte was kind of used as some sort of liaison by our Danish officials (And perhaps some actual adults in the US administration if there are any), because he is quite good at talking the toddler down. We Danes have an exceptional relationship with NATO. We have a highly experienced former minister and former general in NATO that has also worked on the sidelines to communicate with the right people.

  • Dane here. Here is what has actually happened for those wondering:

    Our prime minister and representative had a great meeting with Rutte just before, and also after. Our Danish foreign minister and Greenlandic representative are now ready to talk with the US administration behind closed doors, now that the circus is over.

    I think they'd prefer to keep it out of the media, but I think the massive absurdity around this has ended up with their administration showing all their cards, and our officials holding all theirs. Whatever it is they want on paper still can't be accomplished as far as I can tell, but now they are appearently ready to talk like adults.

    It's very odd, and according to NATO officials, they pretty much just talked about continuing things as usual in the arctic. Because we all know that there is absolutely no threat there. But it is likely to have something to do with Theils and other billionaires investment in mineral search, and perhaps being able to extract Germanium and Gallium from the underground sometime in the future. Because as of now it is not cost-effective, but China holds like 80% of the market.

    So yeah, whatever it is they will give to us and Greenland for this, they will have to figure out over a cup of coffee, because now adults can talk. Let's see how long it lasts though before the real idiots in power over there decide to whisper something in the clowns ear, so we can have another reality show performance.

  • Here is where you american people have forgotten something extremely powerful and potent, that democrats have always had, but the opposition has not:

    Standing together. Solidarity. Unity. Strength through numbers. Unions.

    America is fundementally a very individualistic society, but people with our values know that true power comes from standing together. Build friendships which can evolve into alliances. Organize, even without established party involvement.

    We are many who will help, even outside your borders. We may be across the atlantic, but we sure as hell will argue your case no matter what.

    All the years I've spent on social media, I've argued right along with you against MAGA. I've helped as well as I can. Many Europeans have, and will continue to support you.

    Maybe we just need to be more organized. To create real underground alliances. Help you in any way we can to make actual changes. Shit, I'll gladly write to my representative right now and tell him how I believe our foreign policy should be.

  • I am Danish, and I've said it before, and I'll say it again. I refuse to let borders decide loyalty. I know the vast majority of americans on this platform, stand fully behind our values.

    I appreciate every single apology, and I welcome it, and I fully understand and realize that you had nothing to do with any of this lunacy. But I also urge you to be careful. Because the extent to which you disagree with your countrymen is extreme.

    I am speaking as someone who saw this far away. I sold my investments in the US when he was elected in 2016. I know you are not stupid either. But I see you calling him a fascist, a rapist, a child molester... All of which may be true. But what will you do when he is standing at your door?

    They are carrying weapons. They are deploying armed forces in the street. They are dismantling all the institutions you stand for before your eyes. They hate the weak, the colored, and those they consider less than them. They will soon begin to take away your ability to vote. Do you not see it? Have you woken up? Whatever rules and regulations you think keeps him in check are crumbling before your eyes.

    You need to start considering your options under the second amendment. You need to fill your pantry. You need to build lasting relationships with people close to you that you can trust. Right now your bully is mostly targeting those he considers weak outside his borders. Where will he look next? Where will the Trump who replaces him look?

  • I have seen this speech many times. I think it is going to go down in history, as the speech that correctly identified the end of the american golden age. It is the first important speech in the western world, that was given not by an american for freedom and order, but against america for freedom and order.

  • I hope that this is not hyperbole, but that you american democrats are actively considering it. I briefly scanned the no stupid questions Lemmy community, and as a non-american, a lot of this has me worried. There is so much terror from ICE. I'll post on X, arguing against the barrage of misinformation about my country from MAGA supporters, and there will be occasional Americans calling "Please help us!" to EU citizens.

    You may need to start stocking a bit more in the pantry. Start talking to your neighbors in case the insanity starts to land on your doorstep. Consider what options you have in terms of the second amendment. During his first term it may have seen like a fluke, but with the growing inequality, harsher policies, economic protectionism...

    Elon Musk on X is attempting to start a grassroots movement for implement voter ID. What will this grassroots movement turn into under Trump? Trump is "jokingly" talking about canceling the midterms. You may say he is not able to accomplish this, but who knows what will happen? The divide between democrats and republicans are now so large that it may lead to civil war if it continues.

    People dismiss these things. It seems like a slow moving train wreck. It feels like something that only happens on TV. We think there are rules and regulations to prevent it from happening. What rules? What regulations? Are there any left in the US that can't be bought or intimidated?

  • I'm Danish and I refuse to make this about nationality. I've had an immeasurable amount of American friends over the years. I've loved your music, your company, your viewpoints, your stories - and I've had nothing but respect for you. I've been on American social media with you for decades. I've laughed at the same jokes as you. I speak your language, I sing your songs, I share an incredible amount of your culture. We learned to celebrate Halloween from you. We wear your clothes. We are your friends.

    This is where you'd expect to see a "but", but there is no "but". I just wanted to say this, because I refuse to be divided by national borders. The America I see now, is not the America I grew up with. And now I'm fucking crying. It feels like losing a good friend, to some sort of neurological illness. We will always share your values. Not MAGA values, but OUR values.
