  • I just did my second mission and a random level 56 guy came down and helped me. It was so nice! I accidentally killed them once, but they seemed understanding about it lol. (Well, none of us had mics on but it seemed like it.) Then they went to my ship but I had to head out and get ready for work, so I guess to them it looked like I randomly left. I'll miss them.

Maybe I should've added them as a friend or something lol.

Just Finished My First Mission... Now What?

    Hey fellow Helldivers,

I just installed the game and went through the tutorial and did my first mission where I had to blow up some transponder on some planet with robots.

Whats next? Should I just start picking random sectors and missions and keep playing? I still feel a little lost, like I don't really feel like I know what I'm doing still lol. Is there a way to get more tips and tricks about how to play? Weapons and builds?

And how do I catch up on lore for the game so far? Sounds like we just lost something big (or maybe won something big) related to a Wormhole? How do I catch up on that?

  • Uh what... Why do you think Israel is able to block aid to Gaza, and stop their power, trash, food, water intake, and ability to travel?

It's because they never left. They've always been occupiers who have controlled their territory.

  • 100%. The West Bank is proof. They are being slaughtered and ethnically cleansed from there with no recourse. You need guns to defend yourselves against genociders, WW2 proved that. Hamas, and similar groups, are the only ones willing to carry guns and actually defend their people.

  • Just wanted to give an update that I started learning Linux. It's been a pain in the ass to look up every basic thing I could do in Windows without thinking, but I'm sure I'll get it down with enough use and googling for every error. Only been using it a couple days so far, but already starting to prefer the console over the UI for some things, thanks to the ability to quickly repeat old commands with the up and down arrow keys. It's kind of exciting, like I'm starting the first steps to join the Linux club I see so much on Lemmy.

  • Okay that's a lot of good points. Totally forgot about Yemen. A lot of this stuff wasn't televised as much, so we didn't know. Shows the power of alternative, people-powered media, like Tik Tok on the ground footage.

    Is Torrent Galaxy doing okay?

Been out of the piracy scene for a bit, maybe about 6 months to a year, as I basically have been good with the streaming services I already sign up for. But this past week I've rebuilt my setup (my mini server died), and tested it by trying to torrent something yesterday just to make sure I still can, and I noticed Torrent Galaxy was down. Then I saw some articles that it's been down a lot lately. Does anyone know what's going on? Or was it fine and it was just something on my side, like a DNS issue?

I hope it's fine because that was the best public tracker I knew. For example, the show I was looking for to test my setup with couldn't be found on 1337x (TPB ended up coming through but I don't trust that site as much as I used to). Are they really cracking down on public tracker indexes right now? Have any good alternatives popped up yet? Is there anything we as a community can do to get around or resist these efforts?

I'm not even a diehard pirate, I like the efficiency and user fri

  • Do you need a seedbox to maintain your ratio? I've thought about looking into them but don't want to pay some monthly fee to get a couple hard to find things, when I could just torrent from my plex box when I need to.

  • Ya but when it's posted on a social media they can't control and you aren't American, they can't stop it. It's why videos of the genocide were all over Tik Tok but not US social media. The US does the same things, but with Instagram and similar (even in your first article it shows they have that capability and worse. Which checks out, I've had Instagram and FB make ad suggestions for things I've searched on completely different apps or web pages, or sometimes just something I've talked about.)

I would argue that Chinese controlled social media is better if you're trying to get past US censored channels and surveillance and you live in the US. Same if I was in China, I'd be saying the about US social media probably.

Of course fediverse service would be the best case scenario.

Best Way to Convert My Python Web App to an Offline Desktop App?

I'm pretty new to Python because I haven't used it much for many projects over the years, but i decided to use it to make a web app recently with flask to practice. It calls a simple python program that does some file conversion. There's no database.

I'm hosting it on Python Anywhere for free right now. It's for an old TTRPG, so useful for a niche community, but probably not big enough to be worth hosting fees. Just in case, I'd also like to be able to keep an installer on my github or a Dropbox. The hope is others can still grab it, spread it, and install it long after I've lost interest or gotten hit by a bus.

From my googling, I see 3 main options:

    • Path 1: Keep the basic structure of a web app and use one of the frameworks that let me run it in a computer's browser offline.
      • The options here seem to be Flaskwebgui, Electron, or NW.js.
      • This seems the simplest and most straightforward way.
      • Web GUI is ubiquitous nowadays.
      • Part of me also doesn't like that every

When Is it Time to Look Into Private Trackers or Usenet?

So far, public trackers have been working fine for me, but think I've finally run into some niche shows that have been hard to find or only been able to find individual episodes instead of a single collected season torrent. (Nothing too special, just some baking shows.)

I'm wondering if it's finally time to look into private trackers or Usenet.

If you use them, what did it take for you to finally look into these more time or effort intensive piracy options?

A movie you wanted to see that was too old to be seeded on public trackers? TV shows too old or niche? A game, an obscure music artist? Something else? Was it just curiosity? Or something you did immediately upon getting into piracy? I'm just curious myself lol.

The 56-year-old actor was initially arrested in June 2023 after the FBI tweeted a photo requesting information about his identity. He is alleged to have led a group to the “front line of rioters confronting the police who were defending the entrance” to the Capitol, helping to launch an assault against a group of officers.

    What's Your Favorite Blumhouse Movie?

    Hey Lemmy,

What are your favorite horror movies from Blumhouse?

I went to Universal Studio's Halloween Horror Nights this year and they had the whole tram Blumhouse themed. I liked to watch horror movies during this spooky season, so i think catching up on some of these ones seems like a good place to start this year.

Halloween Horror Nights vs Fright Fest vs Scary Farm?

It's that spooky time of year again! Anyone here have thoughts about the big scary amusement park events in the area?

For people who enjoy these scary, fun events, which do you prefer most? Are there other Halloween events in Los Angeles you prefer more (Los Angeles Haunted Hay Ride or Queen Mary's Dark Harbour, for example)?

What Happened With Trump At Arlington?

What I think I know : They tried to take a picture at Arlington National Cemetery, but couldn't? There was a physical altercation maybe? But the Trump campaign said there wasn't?

Is there more to this? Can someone explain to me the context of how this is a scandal?

Like I hate Trump but I don't understand why this is a big deal. It doesn't seem to involve the man personally, just some staffers who had an argument with a cemetery worker, and seems like small potatoes compared to other scandals he's had. Is it because of how sacred the cemetary is, or did they get into an actual fist fight, or did Trump personally interfere in some way?

    Nature is Fucking Lit

I'd love a Nature is Fucking Lit community over here on Lemmy. I just saw the cutest post on Reddit there and I'd love to spread it or see it over here. (I look at reddit without a profile while at my work computer sometimes, don't judge me lol).

Think I should post it to the lemmy.world one to revive that one? Looks like that hasn't been active in a few months.

I also wonder if it's better to use this opportunity when it's possibly dead to revive the community somewhere else? Like maybe mander.xyz since nature is connected to science or something? Or maybe the solar punk instance? Is there a better place someone can think of or should we stick to the Lemmy.world one?

Do You Add Extra Storage to Your Playstation?

I'm considering buying some extra storage space for my PS5. Last time I was out of town, my partner tried to play a game and they couldn't, because I deleted it to make room. They went to download it but it was out of space, so of course they didn't want to delete anything. That makes me sad because I want to encourage them to use it and game lol.
Plus, I think it would make it easier rather than always downloading and deleting things.

Have other people bought extra storage for PS5? What kind would you recommend?

Do you go for internal or external? Do you have the heat sink if an internal one? Is 4TB enough or overkill? I think I saw that amount somewhere once (unless I imagined it) but maybe 1 or 2 TB is good, and probably easier to find.

    How is The Watchers (2024)?

We're looking at movies to watch for Father's Day and my dad has already watched most of the ones out right now, so that eliminates the ones I want to see (Furiosa, The Fall Guy) and he's not interested in Planet of the Apes. That basically leaves the Watchers.

Anyone see it yet and have any opinions on it? Going either way to spend time with my father, but want to know how low to set my mind expectations lol.

Where to Start With Ursula K. LeGuin?

I've been seeing her name a lot lately in terms of good science fiction and fantasy. I feel like I've lost so much attention span in terms of my ability to read and stuff and I'd like to start getting back into it, perhaps starting with her (or Terry Pratchett lol).

If I start with her, what's a good place to start with her work?
