Wondering what people's favorite "bad" movies are. Can be low budget, box office flops, foreign, so bad it's good, whatever. I'm pretty big on Cannon Group stuff and cheesy Turkish pop cinema (Tarkan vs. the Vikings, etc.). Mostly go for 80s stuff as that's my generation.

The script for Sinners began circulating among studios in Hollywood in the winter of 2023 and resulted in a bidding war by January last year: a wild drama-thriller cum survival-horror flick set in Jim Crow–era Mississippi featuring blues-music set pieces, steamy sex scenes, Deep South occultism and dozens of Riverdancing vampires. More central to the project’s commercial potential, it had been written, and would be directed, by Ryan Coogler — the creative force behind Marvel’s $1.4 billion–grossing Black Panther — and star his frequent filmic muse Michael B. Jordan in a dual role as identical-twin gangsters turned juke-joint-owner brothers named Smoke and Stack. As one studio after another began clamoring to pay Sinners’s $90 million-ish asking price, the director’s agents at WME notified them of a few strings attached. Coogler would retain final cut (a creative dispensation reserved for the industry’s crème de la crème), command first-dollar gross (that is, a percentage of box-offic
Steven Soderbergh recently reflected on 'Black Bag,' lamenting the dissonance between its critical success vs. its lackluster draw at the box office.
Movies and TV productions are rapidly leaving California to film outside the United States, where labor costs are lower and tax incentives greater. Industry workers are exasperated.

Fatma Hassona, a Palestinian photojournalist who is the protagonist of Sepideh Farsi’s documentary Put Your Soul on Your Hand and Walk, has been killed by an Israeli missile strike in Gaza. She was 25.
Put Your Soul on Your Hand and Walk is set to screen as part of ACID (Association du Cinéma Indépendant pour sa Diffusion), a parallel section promoting independent film at next month’s Cannes Film Festival.
"Her smile was as magical as her tenacity: bearing witness, photographing Gaza, distributing food despite the bombs, mourning and hunger. We heard her story, we rejoiced at each of her appearances to see her alive, we feared for her. Yesterday, we were shocked to learn that an Israeli missile had targeted her building, killing Fatem and her family."
We are starting movie night! The Untouchables.

Henry Cavill’s ‘Highlander’ departing Lionsgate for Amazon MGM Studios, United Artists
Chad Stahelski remains in the director's chair on the project, which he has been developing for nearly a decade.
A year ago, Lionsgate flew Henry Cavill to Las Vegas, where he charmed audiences at CinemaCon with tales of the extensive sword training he was undergoing to star in Highlander for the studio. The project had been in development for almost a decade with filmmaker Chad Stahelski, but finally seemed to be moving forward.
Now, that project is indeed still moving forward, but it will be headed to Amazon MGM Studios’ United Artists, which is in final negotiations to acquire the package from Lionsgate. The film is intended as a theatrical play.
At one time, Lionsgate was plotting an entire universe for Highlander, with Stahelski to oversee it all. But the new deal will give UA full rights to the franchise, which dates back to the 1986 feature about immortal warriors starring Christopher Lambert and Sean Connery. As the tagline “there can only be one,” suggests, these warriors are pitted in battle agaisnt one another. With each immortal they kill, they become stronger, until only one
