Filter feed by time

I’d like to limit my feed to a rolling 1 week window so that I don’t run into the same old posts at the “end” of my feed.

I browse my feed by “new” and usually scroll until I’m caught up. I notice that I’m caught up once the posts are a week old.

Instead of reading older posts, I’d love to just have a hard end to the feed where there are no more posts.

Not sure if this makes sense? Or if this is the correct channel for feature requests.

Big fan ❤️

"Tag as" for communities (or instances?)

Originally, I just wanted to request tagging specific instances as NSFW. This would be helpful for posters on specific instances that do not always tag posts as NSFW but still should get caught by our NSFW preferences.

NSFW isn't always porn so the NSFW filter catches a bit much, sometimes. Excluding specific communities from the NSFW filter is an option, but that gave me yet another idea.

Expanding on this idea, it would be cool to start categorizing communities with tags, like "sports" or "news", "world news" or something arbitrary like "neat".

This would allow filtering by what kinds of content I want to view at any given time, in theory. Hell, we could even start building a master list to share for community categories in GitHub or something like that.

Comment in locked posts as admin/mod

Lemmy version 0.19.4 added the ability for admins and mods to comment in locked posts. This comes in handy somtimes.

Blocking user updates feed

Similar to how blocking communities would update your feed by removing pertinent posts, it would be nice if blocking users did the same. Also, please have it save your place on the feed after the update.

Arctic search tool for Mbin and Piefed equivalent to Lemmy Explorer

While I'm saving most of my feature requests for after I'm done bug hunting, I thought that extending the same level of searchability to Mbin and Piefed communities would increase the number of communities users have easy access to, along with making it more likely that those communities get new Lemmy users to join.

Of the two, I'd guess that Mbin would be the easier one to implement currently, given that Lemmy Explorer on lemmyverse.net indexes them in a similar manner to Lemmy communities.

If the functionality were implemented, ideally the Mbin and Piefed communities would be searchable via the current Lemmy Explorer tool, perhaps with a filter option to toggle the listing of communities from any of the three services on or off.

Add sort by date option to Lemmy Explorer

Not sure if it's possible with instances too, or just communities, but it'd be useful to be able to sort the Lemmy Explorer list by creation date.

Having widdled down my unblocked community count to just below 1,000, I can tell when there's new communities for me to review for keeping or blocking by the community count, but would find an option to sort by date founded useful for speeding up the process of finding new ones.

Another use case would be to have an easy means of finding recently-established communities to support and promote across Lemmy.

The ability to use other fonts (such as user installed fonts)

Hey there! How much work would it be to add the ability to select a font to use for Arctic that’s installed on the device? For instance, I use the Atkinson Hyperlegible Next font for everything that I possibly can (it works wonders for my dyslexia).

ignore replies to comments and posts

I would love a feature that allows me to ignore new replies to a post or comment I make. Apollo had this feature for Reddit and I found it really helpful to not get notifications to threads I wasn't interested in continuing for whatever reason (maybe it was getting a lot of off topic replies, or someone was arguing and I didn't want to continue to engage, etc.). Essentially it would just disable notifications from a chosen post, ideally triggered as an option in the three dot overflow menu on that post/comment.

Customizable upvote/downvote colors

[Edit] Per the comment below, the suggested feature is already possible via the custom theme creator (Appearance Settings > App Theme).

For anyone else looking to replicate Reddit's arrow colors, upvote on mobile is #ff4500, while downvote is #7193ff. Now that I'm trying it, I think I actually prefer the default due to the subtler contrast of the blue, but being able to change it is definitely a helpful option to have.

Something that I think has been missing from most Lemmy UIs is distinct upvote and downvote colors, versus the red upvotes and blue downvotes present on the standard Reddit interface.

Although I personally wouldn't feel the need to customize my upvote/downvote colors beyond that, given that others might want colors other than red and blue, I think implementing such a feature with an assortment of default colors customizable for each button would maximize its usefulness. Implementing it with a color wheel or a hex color input option would maximize options even

Customizable gestures for Lemmy Explorer actions

While I don't make use of the gesture functionality in my regular usage of Lemmy, my extensive usage of Lemmy Explorer made me think that swipe actions would be useful there too, whether it be to block communities as I typically use the list for, or subscribe or favorite communities for those who make frequent use of those functions.

Seeing today that Lemmy Explorer indeed has gestures implemented for it, my revised suggestion is that these gestures be mappable as is the case for other feeds in the app, as to make the gestures work from the left or right and have the option of disabling unused gesture actions.

Tesserect Added to the List of Support Frontends After Server Upgrade

I find the frontend very useful as it has the media bias check indicator on shared articles and allows you to see how many elements of each category exists in the Lemmy search UI. Not to mention the troll buster feature where egregious trolls can be banned from all the moderated communities of a user.

Community Management for Moderators on "Connect for Lemmy"

Proposed Features:

  1. Ability for Moderators to Edit Communities: It would be incredibly useful if moderators could perform administrative tasks for the communities they manage directly from the Connect for Lemmy app. This could include:
    • Editing community information (e.g., sidebar text, community rules, descriptions, etc.).
    • Managing community settings (visibility, posting rules, allowed content types, etc.).
    • Deleting or archiving a community if necessary.

Other third-party apps, such as Summit for Lemmy, have implemented similar functionality, and it would be great to see Connect for Lemmy adopt this feature as well. This would streamline the moderation process and eliminate the need to switch to a desktop or web browser for these administrative tasks, similar to when Reddit allowed Mods/users to manage their subreddits via the Reddit App.

  1. Ability to Create Communities from the App: Adding the ability for users to create new communities

Hide duplicate posts I've already read

This is an idea I've had for a while now. Please let me know in the comments your thoughts on this feature.

This is my own feature request. I think the more I use Lemmy the more I find myself ignoring posts I've already read on a separate instance. In theory it doesn't sound like a bad idea to check out the same post from different instances since they have different comments however in practice this is rarely useful. I think a feature that essentially remembers the last ~100 posts you've read/hidden and then automatically filters out any new posts loaded with the same content would be cool.

Specifics:

  • Create a "cache" that remembers the last 100-1000 posts that are either read or hidden. This cache is per post feed. It can remember posts based on the title + maybe the first 100 characters of the post body + url (but not image urls since these can differ based on which instance the image is uploaded to). We can exclude any post with a title less than 25 characters and no body.

Set custom colors for posts/links that have been opened (Update: It already exists 🤦‍♀️)

I sometimes find it hard to tell at a glance if a post I'm looking at is one I have clicked on since they are just a slightly lighter grey than posts I haven't clicked on. Being able to set it to whatever color I would like would be very helpful.

Open NSFW post links in incognito tabs

When coming from an NSFW post, both the post links and any links in comments should open in an incognito tab by default, instead of a regular tab. This is the main reason I currently use the (pretty broken) internal browser ATM.

I believe there is an intent to handle this, see https://conn.dev/chrome-incognito.html (which also seems to work for other browsers).

Option to hide post/comment scores

Votes attract votes. Users feel more inclined to follow the positive or negative trend when voting. If given the option to hide vote scores it would give users the ability to vote without being influenced by how everyone else has voted, and maybe have an effect on what posts rise to the top.

If you want to get fancy it could have the option to show scores of things that a user has already voted on.

The ability to play Loops videos directly in the app

See [email protected]

It's a fediverse short video sharing platform, and direct support would be nice to have :)

I'm hoping it will also be easy enough to implement?

Why don't any frontends add a way to view a united thread for a single url?

I feel like there's an easy win to keep up with the fragmentation of discussions without waiting for some implementation of this feature request.

All a frontend needs to do is group all posts with the same URL together and display all their comments in the as one unified comment section. If you reply to the OP, you can either choose which community the comment goes to, and maybe set a default as well.

This functionality should be an extra switch for the frontend, so that the user can disable it and see individual posts.

This also nicely avoids not knowing how to deal with moderation, as each community moderator still maintains control.

Comments from blocked communities would not appear ofc.

This would both prevent seeing the same post multiple times on your feed, but also drive view to smaller communities where comment in their sections are ignored.
