  • I'm aligned on this. Server side ought to be the way.

    Also fuck cheaters.

  • I don't have a lot of experience with cats specifically, but pets need time to get used to a new home. This can take up to three months.

If this is day one, give them some space, blink slowly at them; let them know you're gentle and there if needed.

  • Yeah like, as a keen advocate for Linux desktop use, this is a wildly dishonest take / headline to run with.

  • Yup. It's a cat and mouse game until server side can become enconomial enough to broadly deploy (computational & network constraints).

  • I wish I had a ricky style shitmobile to park next to cybertrucks for comedic effect

  • Soy! Soy!

  • I see. Given the general reception of the 343 games, it's a little surprising to see people ask for 5 in its entirety, though I will admit there were moments of fun to be had with H5f.

I'm not sure what fire team raven is, will need to look that one up.

  • by partially open source are you referring to Darwin or are there other system components which this applies to?

  • what other games besides halo 5? Also why halo 5

  • It's fair to dream. I've no doubt the CPU core count will increase somewhat in the next iteration. I wouldn't be surprised to see more fixed function hardware in their next (theoretical) SoC.

I'm not sure if we'd ever really see that much gfx resource in a handheld, at least for now. I agree it would be very cool but vendors need to strike a very fine balance as far as power is concerned. Could go for the 'dock to unlock' approach though I genuinely appreciate that the steam deck's performance characteristics are 1:1 plugged in and on battery. Besides that, area is expensive, and the steam deck came in at an extremely attractive price in 2022 relative to other x86_64 handhelds on the market. I would hope price remains a focus to get Linux gaming and desktop experiences into more hands.

As for halo in particular, significant improvements have been made at a packaging level to minimise idle draw with the mcm design (and I think that is somewhat reflected in current OEM offerings) but it's still not quite where you'd want it to be in a handheld system. That's not to say it won't get there eventually.

  • The two gfx IPs were in direct competition for 2020, if anything, the two platforms should be on par in terms of base level capabilities. Interesting to see them go with a fullHD panel, though. 1080p@120hz bodes pretty well for general performance expectations. Curious what the battery life will be like.

strix halo in any gaming handheld would be bizarre, much as I'd love to see it. I get the feeling valve would hold out just a little while longer before pulling the trigger on a second gen.

  • aaaaaaaaaaaaa!

  • And a hell of a lot of stars!

    Lisa goes to Washington?

  • Hey, I'm glad you've identified the issue. Memory errors are spooky 😟

We must remember our ABCs - always be testing the shit out of new system memory.

  • Helldivers 2 is autodesk stingray engine / bitsquid.

Did you reinstall the OS when you got this PC?

Have you ever had a passing point? (I.e. has this system ever not crashed in the games you've specified?)

Can you please try to verify your memory config and run some integrity tests against that specifically? (Windows memory diagnostic, Memtest86/86+, Karhu)

In Windows' Event Viewer, can you go to Applications and Services Logs > Microsoft > Windows > Kernel-WHEA > Errors and tell us if there are any entries there?

Can you let us know if you have any minidmp files over at C:\Windows\Minidumps\ or C:\Windows\LiveKernelReports\WATCHDOG\?

Better yet, do you perhaps have a kernel memory DMP over at C:\Windows\MEMORY.DMP corresponding to one of the full system failures where it hangs on the last frame and eventually reboots?

Has any of this ever prompted the AMD Bug Report Tool? Like has it ever popped up to say there has been a timeout or anything like that?

  • Asymmetry can indicate imbalance in some way. Could be worth evaluating how you handle weight in each arm, maybe record clips if you can?

I've developed pretty bad callouses over the years, though honestly they're handy for certain types of work, particularly deadlift and barbell row. Helps for specific instruments like the guitar or bass, and tasks like sewing.

Climbers tend to file theirs down, I gather it's detrimental to their grip. You may find this helpful though personally I find them valuable for weightlifting. If this is causing acute discomfort you may want to look into using gloves or chalk?

  • have been happy using fedora workstation for over five years now 😊

I also keep a silverblue disk as a portable install to help debug iffy systems.

  • This is where homer joins the stonecutters! Now it's Lisa's turn!

  • Absolutely no player moderation infrastructure whatsoever. It's as if they never made a halo game before.

I recall some streamer lady getting relentlessly harrassed via lobby voice chat at the beginning of infinite's life cycle. Zero recourse; there's no in-game reporting function (the game directs you to the halo waypoint website, it's a fully manual process, you supply the offending player's name, you're even expected to manually capture infractions via the (still) broken in-game theatre mode).

As for betrayal booting, I have a kind of roundabout theory. 343 in their infinite wisdom decided to disable player collision and friendly fire in the sandbox by default.

On one hand, this is behaviour in-line with contemporary shooters to prevent griefing. On the other hand, it's entirely detrimental to sandbox immersion and can lead to bad habits when it comes to player positioning.

I suspect this change lead to the oversight of any player booting mechanism, though it's still possible to team-kill via vehicle collisions.

Blizzard may have violated the UK GDPR following my 2019 Data Erasure Request

My sincerest apologies in advance to the moderators of /c/games if the below is not suitable for the community. This is extremely loosely related to gaming but concerns a significant player in the industry.

On the morning of Monday, 2024 11 25, I received a text message from my bank notifying me of a potentially fraudulent transaction of $0.00. This resembled some kind of a service test charge.

I was amused to see this was sufficient to trigger such a response from my bank. My account had been paused and my card transactions were halted as a result, though I'm grateful for their diligence.

Looking at the message, it appears to have been from Blizzard Entertainment:

The first time I dealt with them as a customer was around 2016 or 2017. Overwatch was on sale and my friends urged me to pick it up. It wasn't my sort of thing and I quickly put it back down.

I was stupid enough to buy Destiny 2 later on i

Jerboa image lightbox cannot render SVG images whereas feed view can

    Hey there,

Not sure if this is actually more of an Android system limitation, but I came across this post earlier:

    https://lemm.ee/post/45289052

The feed renders the linked .SVG graphic as expected, though the image lightbox (image view when tapped on) doesn't appear to render this. The AOSP gallery / files app and Google Photos app appear to also be incapable of rendering this, however.

Disregard, - it works now for me now 😅

Minor quirk with post image lightbox

    Hey there,

This is an extremely minor quirk with how the image lightbox (apologies if I'm using web specific terms) behaves when a post image is selected from the feed and put into full screen mode.

On devices with on-screen nav and expanded status bar areas (camera hole design concession), the lightbox will show end to end with the UI controls overlayed.

If you tap once on the image to hide the UI elements, the status bar area is filled, whereas the nav area still shows as expected, though the image appears to resize slightly in response to the change in viewport. Wondering if this was intentional?

    E: fixed in 0.0.75 - thank you MV :)

    Hey there,

I was wondering if anybody else was experiencing this behavior where the swipe to navigate back gesture would register twice within the app, taking you back two steps instead of just one.

I'm not sure exactly when this behaviour was introduced, though it persists with today's .72 alpha release. I was to say it came about in the .6X timeframe.

I've not found this reported on the github, though I just wanted to check that this isn't a system specific issue before submitting. #1399 may be relevant as it refers to swipe input sensitivity but I think that's more of a gesture threshold matter than input registering twice in the app.

My app settings are attached in a photo:

Those of you who deadlift semi supinated, do you ever alternate your grip?

You might semi supinate your deadlift grip (one hand over, one under) for comfort & endurance at heavier weights. I believe some competitions even mandate this for safety reasons.

Those of you who semi grip, do you ever alternate? If so, have you identified any benefits in doing so?

A friend brought this up with me a couple months ago. It was a reasonable ask, and yet I've never thought to switch hands. I try to only use a semi grip when necessary (heavier sets, fewer reps).

I've recently started experimenting with switching it around for a few higher volume sets. Is there any benefit from switching long term, or session to session?
