  • no defense of nyt, but there was milquetoast acknowledgment of due process and the desire of some to do away with it. it was couched as "who are we, really?"

certainly weak, but the background stories presented at least somewhat humanized the victims here and offered local, expert information showing how pathetically flawed "gang membership" determination is.

  • not disagreeing with you - I find performative "wrestle drama" absolutely, mind numbingly pointless. my preference is to participate in (and ocassionally watch) unscripted combat sport.

however... I have trained competitive martial arts for decades (muay thai, bjj, others) and most of these "wrestling" participants are pretty skilled athletes. it takes training to turn combinations of techniques designed to injure into something reasonably harmless. there is a pretty fine line separating sparring from a fight.

I know you know this, but its still useful to remember that these players are actors as well as athletes and that can obviously be pretty inviting for a lot of viewers.

  • perhaps "home insecure" is a better term. this market may turn many "home owners" into home renters.

those with unserviceable mortgages will lose them, increasing supply and putting further downward pressure on pricing right after a countrywide housing price bubble. these people are going to be massively underwater on their debt. there may be some people with the means to buy in a down market, but I think many homes will be snapped up at auction by corps for rental.

I am not sure how any of this results in an increase in wealth for average people. its likely going to end up as another massive wealth transfer upwards.

  • we just have to get past the machine gun turrets and mechs. but, yeah... this feels like its gonna get really bad, really fast, on purpose.

was talking to a "non-political" associate today and he dropped a nugget about how the media is telling him the economy is slowly improving. didnt have time to ask what media he was consuming and I am not sure he would admit to watching fox (but I think he does). I reminded him that he just pulled his house off the market because of no interest. this entire country has become delusional.

  • idk. I think residential landlords will be fine. they will adjust rents to scrape as much from their vassals as possible while renegotiating favorable-ish terms on any debt they may have to creditors - banks dont want houses.

its families who who will be destroyed by this. auction sales will be underwater and people will be homeless. serious pain has come for the american population.

  • yeah, this is purely preemptive to cast blame on powell as the entire us economy tanks.

as far as I am aware the feds focus is still entirely on trying to control inflation. what trump is demanding from powell would almost certainly lead to stagflation - economic contraction with increased inflation, and that is as bad as it sounds.

I dont think there is any better means to impoverish the general us population faster than trumps apparent "plan". the wealthy, however, will be perfectly fine.

  • he brings live shakespearean actor mojo to the small screen and makes zero fucking apologies for it. its like watching a honda civic do a quarter mile with a corvette engine.

    best. captain. eva.

  • ever allowed your printer to update over the internet? chances are that same serial number attached to the printer, which is now encoded into your document, is now attached to an IP that can be meaningfully time/date attached to your e.g. cable modem MAC address which is attached to the location of the printer - at your house/work/etc... and thats just one publically known mechanism. if your printer is attached to a network with internet access, are you sure its never pinged the manufacturer? are you sure sure?

never underestimate the trail of digital forensics you leave behind when there is a sufficiently motivated adversary. seriously evaluate your risks and harm exposure and plan accordingly. just sayin'

  • really interesting article with a sharp, knowledgeable guy. 2025 and suddenly interviews about the irs are now an everycitizen must-read.

"every accusation is a confession" should be (metaphorically - yeah, lets go with that) tattooed on the forehead of each trump appointee.

Tor and JS on big domain sites

I have noticed recently (perhaps within the last 6-12 months?) that I can hit many major sites via Tor with JavaScript off. there are a few that reject Tor connections or render illegibly - but, for many mainstream sites, things are actually pretty reasonable. fingerprinting and personal threat models aside, this seems like a positive move and feels different from e.g. 2 years ago.

am I slowly going insane? has anyone else noticed this? tested over time via orbot and classic Tor nodes with various hardened and non-hardened browsers and DNS resolvers.

    app crashes after v0.0.35 update

just updated to the v0.0.35 f-droid build and jerboa started to consistently crash at seemingly random times. likewise, I would get web UI error notifications while using the web frontend.

did a little testing and noticed that it may be related to the "show avatars" setting being enabled.

turning "show avatars" off and saving the settings seems to have eliminated the issues on both web and app.

will continue to test and update the post if needed. any others able to confirm or refute this particular issue might be helpful.

edit: there are still crashes related to editing a post, but crashes while scrolling through posts and comments seem to be much reduced. any feedback is welcome.

edit2: further poking suggests the underlying cause may be jerboa not handling server response timeouts well. turning off avatars may reduce the number of API calls and therefore the number of potentially mishandled timeouts. crash frequency is likely variable as a result of variable server lo
