  • Yeah... I will not apply that patch to my kernel. 🙄

  • I see it as a starting point to becoming more mainline and less device-specific.

  • TOTP requires a 2nd device to be a 2nd factor, whereas many people want to use their phone with passwords synced.

Also, mabnually typing in numbers sucks.

That's where WebAuthn comes in. Users couls, for example jus log in with a Nitrokey or Yubikey.

  • Lol, the thing that got me to switch fron Lemmy to Piefed was the UI.

  • BuyFromEU @feddit.org

What are some nice PeerTube channels (or others that are not Youtube)?

  • Yes. Although I'm not sure what rice cookers are for. Just heat up rice with water... Done.

  • Debian stable. It just works.

    1. Install Prose (https://prose.org/)
    2. Find a provider at https://providers.xmpp.org/ or somewhere else

If you later dislike the provider, you can keep the software and familiar interface and just move to a new provider, you know email, right?

  • Who cares about fair trade if you can have a blockchain pullover!

  • My transition strategy: jurisdiction and comfort first, then decentralization, then open-to-inspection

Uhm. Why? Some nice FOSS projects are based in the US, but if they're made by a community and don't rely on an online service, then it is probably fine. I wouldn't use a closed source EU service over one that's FOSS and where we can verify what it does.

  • I don't know... Spotify rips of musicians and podcasters, I wouldn't recommend switching to it. There are probably better alternatives. I've heard there is a good streaming service from France, don't know which one. I've always preferred local music.

And I don't get switching to Matrix. That has, again and again, proven to be unreliable. And a communication tool needs to be reliable.

  • Not sure whether that is the right thing for your use-case, but mapy.com (Czech Republic) works extremely well for satellite view, their images often are of higher quality than those of Google.

EDIT: I also prefer heir simple no-bullshit UI.

  • https://prose.org/ looks great, it even uses a standardised protocol. I've tried it and it works well, much better than Rocket.Chat, Zulip or Mattermost.

  • I've already added a recurring donation when Movim started accepting LinerayPay donations. :D

    I don't use Movim, but I think it's great.

  • Wer vorzeitig aussteigt, verstößt also gegen die Beförderungsbedingungen, was theoretisch zu einer Nachzahlung oder Strafe führen kann.

Theoretisch?

    Sehr viel kojunktiv.

  • I always wonder why don't hear about burning houses all the time, as so many nerds mount their tablets to the way while continuously charging them. Seems like a bad idea.

    Otherwise an interesting read.

    Verklagt mich doch :p

  • sigh We already have Wero, very NIH...

  • Yup, I've already set up a recurring donation of 2 EUR / week.
