Whatever place, that was robbery.
And while they are at it, put a battery in too.
Could have been me. I’ve been working on this as a hobby for over five years yers since we got solar panels, EV and a dedicated battery for storage.
Smarter devices support demand side response, which is welcome to make the grid more efficient. A good local energy-efficient solution includes in my experience three key ingredients.
First you need local energy storage to allow for extra flexibility to handle life's ebbs and flows. This could be an EV or dedicated storage battery, which can be charged when electricity is abundant, and discharged when supply is tight and something energy hungry needs doing.
Second the grid side will not know when I’m planning to do something energy hungry, or when I want the EV battery full instead of the usual 80% charge. Therefore some way of providing input is needed. It might be possible to learn reasonable local demand forecast models reflecting local behaviour patterns, but I’m not yet convinced about this and tend to trust human guidance more.
Third you need intelligent control to respond to grid signals (e.g. price changes) and combine those with local inputs and any local consumption and production (e.g. from solar panels or micro wind turbines) forecasts.
Energy companies will of course want to have the intelligent control in their hands as it creates them price arbitrage. For majority of consumers that will be the best solution. Some of us will not necessarily want to give them that control and prefer a local solution.
How has your week been?
I hope the water didn’t cause much damage.
How has your week been?
It was great to have the long weekend. I’m beginning to think that every weekend should be four days!
My wife gave the BBQ a thorough Spring clean while I focused on unscheduled lawnmower maintenance. First BBQ in warm weather is always a treat, and the lawnmower started with first pull, so that was nice.
I think so. But then again, I had read the books beforehand, which made it easier to get going.
I quite like the Apple TV adaptation of Slow Horses. Gary Oldman as Jackson Lamb is simply brilliant.
If it’s in a lorry, is it parked? That is, if the lorry isn’t parked. This is confusing.
That sounds like a lot of complication for a humble lawnmower.
Cuts still well enough, maybe next Spring.
Fixed the lawnmower
The lawnmower decided that Easter is a good time to stop working. I took it apart, cleaned fuel lines and the carburettor, put in a new spark plug, cleaned the air filter, and put it back together. It started with the first pull. Result.
I’ve been working a new roofed decking where BBQ and Ooni pizza oven will go. I bought the pizza oven as a bit of an impulse thing and didn’t really think where it will go, so now I have a building project to deal with.
Yesterday the weather was great so I just kept going for far too long for my age. It turns out roofing in April sunshine is exhausting and seemingly requires muscles I don’t appear to be using that often. On the bright side I did not burn myself as I slapped plenty of SPF 50 on.
I also did a good few walks with our dogs and explored new forrest paths we haven’t been to before. We knew of them but never got round going there.
I’d call this a very good week.
And totally no sore muscles tomorrow morning.
I need to complete the deck first…
I forgot suncream the other day. I will not make that mistake again. Until next Spring, anyway.
Working on a deck in back garden. Looks like the weather will be favourable.
I think you nailed it, a tempting target for spare milkshakes.
Looks like the logical outcome when (well, hopefully if) the surveillance capitalism fully takes over the Government.
TIL a new term that I shall be using.
We are just covering all the bases.
Did you make Sunday roast today?
I just spent three leisurely hours in the kitchen making a Sunday roast: roast chicken, roast potatoes, carrots, broccoli, cauliflower & gravy. I quite like relaxed cooking with Planet Rock on the background.
I found myself wondering if people still do this. Did you make a roasttoday, and if you did, what did you cook?
No parking on the motorway, mate

Forty four people are due to take part in this year's "March March march" after it goes "viral".
Static caravan blocks Fen road
Police said local authorities will remove it in due course.
Unfortunately the article does not explain how it got there as I’d really like to know. Anyway, you can’t park it there, mate.
Learner fails driving test after hitting traffic lights
Officers say the driver failed their test, but no-one was injured.
Oh well, better luck next time.
Thank you admins & Merry Christmas
Thank you for keeping feddit.uk going. Ronnie, Myles and I wish you and yours Merry Christmas.
What’s the best concept album?
I just played American Idiot and The Wall from start to finish. For me, both are absolute masterpieces. I wouldn’t be able to say which is better than the other.
What’s the best concept album for you?
Mr Myles Kennedy - Rock City
Shockingly, this was the first time I’ve been to Rock City. Great venue!
Rock City later today: Mr Myles Kennedy
Just a little bit excited to see Myles on the stage tonight.
You can’t gridlock there, mate
I didn’t think three cars is enough to create a gridlock, but what do I know. Yesterday three very ‘creative’ drivers managed just that right in front of me.
I wish I had a picture to share as it was that special. I don’t, so here is a schematic for your enjoyment, horror, disgust, or perhaps lols as the younglings like to say these days.
Perhaps the ultimate collection of fake photos
The video message from the Princess of Wales gives us a glimpse of the Wales' home life in Norfolk.
“Oh William, you are so funny!” “Darling, do have another piece of cheese.” “Don’t lick the fucking camera lens.”
How can anybody be so far up their arse to think it’s a good idea to push this nonsense out.
It will be 10 years after the Grenfell Tower fire before any potential criminal prosecutions begin.
I understand the need to investigate this thoroughly. I also appreciate that there are a lot of cheats and liars to shift through in this particular cluster fuck. Still, ten years to investigate is a lot of time.
The Government must ensure that this process is followed to the rightful conclusion. We need to see a bunch of people behind bars for their contribution to the 72 deaths.
Do people care about Oasis getting back together?
The rock band defined the Cool Britannia movement and had the best-selling British album of the 90s.
The BBC has been on the case yesterday and today, and at least I’m somewhat interested and perhaps even tempted to go see them. But do people care?
What other band, if they got back together, would tempt you?
Team GB archer, 16, celebrates GCSE results - fails PE
The Olympian says she passed all of her GCSEs apart from PE, "ironically".
Looks like PE requirements have gone up a bit, seeming that being an olympian is not sufficient.
Montreal is planning to allow bars and clubs to stay open all night, but opinions are mixed.
Most definitely! But maybe not in the way people would want.
Relevant idea for an election campaign
Let me describe an idea I heard from a very innovative person, which I think would be really useful right now in midst of the general election campaign.
The basic idea is to interpret politician’s or basically any talking head’s speech realtime and check the semantics against the Internet. Imagine a banner at the bottom of a TV screen with a line being drawn as the person talks.
If what the person says correlates positively with what can be found in reputable Internet sources, the line goes up and is green. There is evidence they are speaking the truth.
If what the person says correlates negatively with the sources, the line goes down and is red. There is evidence they are lying.
If what the person says does not correlate with the sources, the line is flat and brown, because they are spewing unadulterated bullshit.
I’d pay for this service.
The Sunak v Starmer debate is appalling
Sunak comes across like the prat he is. “Labor will raise taxes by £2,000 for everybody” regardless of the question. Talking over all the time, not listening to the moderator. Appalling creature. Starmer sympathises a lot with people asking questions without answering them. Skating around or just plainly ignoring questions all the time. I can’t watch this shit a minute longer.
