Vatsim event to Wolf's Fang RWY in Antarctica, first time having coverage while flying on the south pole

https://my.vatsim.net/events/2-years-on-trip-to-wolf-s-fang-runway Can recommend this one next time. Although you should definitely look into programming a custom waypoint before you try to land. Spotting the runway is hard in the middle of nowhere.

  • Is this added to the base game, or do you need to do some tricks to get this to work?

  • I think I boot up the simulator too sporadically to join a VA, I've read multiple VA's that require you to fly at least once a month. Plus it feels a bit limiting in a way? Not being in a VA allows you to fly where ATC is on Vatsim and wherever in the world you want.

  • The oldest trick in the book of turning it on and off again doesn't just work in IT

  • Probably yeah. Shame, hope they release it eventually

Flew into Nantucket during the Bostom Tea Party event, excellent work by all controllers involved!

  • Can't wait for this one! Extra performance is very welcome. And the extra variants are definitely nice to have too!

  • Wow, this looks scary...

Is the full video of which the picture was taken available somewhere? I've tried looking for it but I can't find anything

  • I've seen a video about this plane by Tom Scott years ago. But I only recently learned this is an A310. Learned so by browsing the liveries of the IniBuilds A310 for MSFS, and there it was! It's a very cool variant for sure.

The visibility while landing at EHAM during storm Poly this Wednesday. Wind indicator showing 46kts at 1000'ft!

    Weather at the time:

Thanks to the Vatsim ATC at Schiphol for making the landing even more exciting!

    Aviation related podcast?

I'm looking for podcasts on Spotify to listen to, which are aviation related.
Finding podcasts is always difficult though, and using mouth to mouth recommendations seems to work best, so I would love to hear some suggestions from this community!

Wasting some time with LPPD - KJFK today. Only ATC enroute was KJFK_GND sadly...

Still an enjoyable flight. Can't wait for more long haulers in MSFS!

For AMD GPU owners, AMD Chill is a nice way to limit GPU usage during the cruise

AMD Chill limits your FPS basically. You can enable it in Adrenalin.

Wish it could go lower than 30, but it's a quick way to toggle between 60+ fps and 30. Will definitely be using it when I arrive in the cruise phase from now on.

Since KSP2 does not yet have heating, I decided to try to get into low sun orbit

As it was just a science experiment, infinite fuel has been used...

But in the end I achieved this tight orbit!

I tried to land on the sun as well for the fun of it. The surface at 0 m is not solid. Currently debating if I wanna wait the 30 minutes it takes to get to the centre of the sun.

Microsoft Flight Simulator Presentation from FlightSimExpo 2023 (tl;dr in comments)

    From Reddit:

    TL;DR

    • Thin client, less to download, faster loading times, helps keep min specs low
    • All new physics and aerodynamics engine with much more control for aircraft developers to define aircraft surfaces/geometry to make full use of the flight dynamics.
    • Fully simulated hot air balloon physics.
    • Massive performance improvements, multi-threaded
    • Backwards-compatible (community folder still there)
    • Updated systems (electrical, pneumatic, fuel and hydraulic)
    • Failure, wear and tear system
    • Payload and passenger system overhaul
    • Deeper and wider avionics packages
    • Enhanced tree diversity
    • Improved cliffs
    • 3rd tessellated ground materials
    • Improved ground details - Screenshot
    • Full seasons
    • Aurora borealis, tornados, improved storms

Flying the AN-225 on Vatsim: Tips and experiences

    Hi all,

Recently took the beautiful AN-225 onto Vatsim for the first time. Mostly on Unicom so it wasn't all that interesting. I would love to take it onto the network more often, but I'm a bit anxious to do so, because it requires extra care from the controllers. And if they have to give extra care to me, I should definitely know how to handle her properly.

So I was wondering if anyone here has experience flying the beast on Vatsim, and how controllers handle it.
This includes things like the 2 min warmup before / while lining up from the manual.

Also, my main gripe with flying this seriously is that I never really know where to park it... If anyone has suggestions on that regard, I'll take any and all tips.

    Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 FAQ

Today’s trailer was a short teaser to introduce Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024. We are excited to share much more information about the next generation of the Microsoft Flight Simulator franchise in the coming months. We have been monitoring your feedback to the trailer very closely and apologize for our delayed communication. We would like to take the opportunity to address some of the most common questions we’ve seen.

Will Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 be a completely standalone sequel, or will it also be offered as a paid update for existing players?

Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 is a standalone simulator and the next-generation sequel to Microsoft Flight Simulator that launched in 2020. Current aircraft and airports that are in Microsoft Flight Simulator (2020), as well as virtually all Marketplace add-ons, will be supported in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024.

*What kind of support can Microsoft Flight Simulator (2020) players expect to see once Flight Simulator 2024 has

Putting this here to solve this issue. Still new to Lemmy, but I'm sure this one is solvable.

Now my comment is the only one in the thread.

I think this has something to do with the language. My comment has the 'English' marking after the Fediverse icon. All the other comments do not have this.

Could this be something where this instance blocks comments with an undetermined language?

Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 announced during Xbox Games Showcase

    Wow... This looks amazing!

Probably an update on FS2020? Or a new standalone thing? Very excited regardless!

    Edit:
New game instead of an update. Confirmed by Xbox on Twitter.

Sequel? Not an update for MFS 2020?

that's right, a brand new sequel!

    How do you fly?

Seeing as this instance and community is brand new, I'm very curious how everyone here flies their digital planes.

Personally, I love flying on Vatsim. Usually I grab the Fenix A320.
Right now I'm flying some different planes, hoping that the Fenix V2 update drops soon... I need that extra performance to not fly at less than 20fps constantly!
Also flying the CRJ, AN225 and ATR. Might also do some VFR on Vatsim soon.

But I'd love to hear how you guys fly.
