Why does oembed for Dailymotion not work on Mastodon

It works on Lemmy and Bluesky…

It works on Lemmy in the Arctic iOS app and on Bluesky… (edited after [@[email protected]] (https://szmer.info/u/Ludrol) corrected me).

Mastodon client for Android which has similar UI to the web app.

I've tried most of the well known apps but I have never been satisfied with the UI, I keep getting back to the website which doesn't live up to be a daily driver due to lack of performance. The closest one I have used is Subway Tooter, which also has some questionable UI choices. Where it tries to implement everything, but it ends up looking cluttered and clunky.

  • Boosts are marked as such and recognizable, the posts i am seeing are common posts from accounts i don't follow. Here in the middle is an account i don't follow, at the bottom is a boosted post. The feed is my home fed in Elk, it is the same on the website.

  • It also functions as a PWA (progressive web app) for those that want those features. The underlying chat protocol has many native clients as well for everyone to have a low-power, low-data-consumption option for encrypted chat, both direct messages & chat rooms.

  • correct.

when composing a message you can also set the visibility to whoever is mentioned in your message exclusively:

those messages aren't encrypted, as stated on the banner above

Problem connecting with my instance when using a laptop browser

Hello. My instance is mindly.social. It used to work fine, but now, when I try to connect, I simply see a Mastodon logo. This is true on both Firefox and Chromium browsers. However, when I use Pachli on my phone, it does connect. I'm not sure what the issue is.

  • It's vote and build pressure. Doing only one of those will leave you in a bad spot

Not voting will leave you with republican who wants to bulldoze gaza and doesn't care what anyone thinks. Who's former white house advisor thoughts about the war was how gaza's waterfront properties were economically valuable. Who's planned response to peaceful protests is to deport US citizens protesting

  • @[email protected]
It does indeed work. So you can post directly to a mastodon user from a Lemmy post comments section.

Is Bluesky (going to be) as community-run as Mastodon?

Reading this article, and especially the end ...

CEO Jay Graber told The Verge that the plan is to hand over control of the AT protocol to a web standards body like the Internet Engineering Task Force.

... it almost sounds as if Bluesky is (going to be) as community-run as Mastodon.

But I'm suspicious. What is the catch?

@mastodon How to change icon of Mastodon list.

    Just started using mastodon.
Followers, hashtags, bookmarks, list, etc, etc. Lots of backlog man.
Started using lists for organising things better.
Anybody know how to change there icon?
It is a group like icon by default.

  • I've been wanting to find more peeps to follow on Mastodon for a while, so I did some research. Here's some lists and resources to find people.

  • Corporate media are leery of the fediverse because the capitalist class hasn’t (yet) gotten control of it. They aren’t able shape the narratives here like they’re able to on corporate social media platforms.

We are on their radar, though, and they will eventually try to control us. US military-industrial complex think tank Atlantic Council report: Collective Security in a Federated World (PDF link)

  • @BuddyTheBeefalo I don't really get the problem tho? All Information that you post on Fediverse is already public, that's how ActivityPub works, no?

  • This is the best summary I could come up with:

We were aiming to learn about how much work and cost this involved, how many people we’d reach, what levels of engagement we would get and to explore the risks and benefits of the federated model.

The trial so far has been really effective in helping us learn about how the Fediverse is evolving, what technical support a Mastodon server needs, what the costs are, and how a large media organisation like the BBC can engage with the many different overlapping communities that exist in this rapidly changing space.

We are also planning to start some technical work into investigating ways to publish BBC content more widely using ActivityPub, the underlying protocol of Mastodon and the Fediverse.

Reassuringly, most of the comments and feedback have been positive, welcoming both our interest and the way we have set things up.We’ve had really encouraging levels of engagement(i.e. replies, re-posts and likes) on Mastodon.

Because this an experiment and a trial, it's not always the main priority for all the teams involved, so we may not be able to engage and reply as much as the Mastodon community and culture expect, and we recognise this could be an issue going forward.

Because of the potential sensitivity around news stories, we need to be particularly careful with our editorial processes and within the scope of this trial we are not in a position to guarantee time and effort from other teams outside of R&D.

I came across this blogpost regarding Mastodon. I would love to get you guys thoughts. This is from earlier in the year, the authors thoughts may have changed but not likely. Some points make sense others not so much.

    Block Meta/Facebook from Mastodon

(This is an extended version of one of the most widely re-shared post I have ever written on Mastodon.)

The new "Threads" app by Meta (Facebook) is just the old 4-E strategy strategy to destroy Mastodon:

    1. Embrace:(what they are doing now) launch a competing but compatible service with that of Mastodon. The vast majority of users, most of whom don't care about the privacy and intimacy of the Mastodon network, will go with the brand with the most name recognition. The number of users already signed up for Threads shows this to be true.
    2. Extend:make their service appear to be better with features like search, which they have the resources to do, but the rest of the Mastodon network does not. Also include features for tracking and advertising, sell this as a good thing, "a better place to grow your personal brand, your business." When people think about joining either Facebook Threads or some other Mastodo
  • There are better arguments for not federating with Meta’s Threads, some of which can be found in [email protected]. Firstly, Threads isn’t going to be able to restrict speech on other instances, at least not in any direct fashion. And secondly and more importantly, an argument for “freedom of speech” without qualifications is either naive or disingenuous: Paradox of tolerance

If becomes thread-like, I'll leave social network forever. I'm done with meta wanting to control everything, chiefly the freedom of speech in a network used to communicate. I mean, really?
