Mastodon won't be the next Twitter, and it's not because of Bluesky. The ideals and execution won't scale.

Tf this has to due with free speech? Minds.com continues to operate, the government hasn’t censored them.
If liking something makes you a bro then everyone here is a bro. Bluesky is good and tons of people like it. They have a lot of neat ideas so much so many fedi devs are looking to bring some of those ideas to the fedi. Anyways to answer your question the answer is no. The closest you get are Misskey & Forkeys antenna feature and Friendica & Hubzilla’s channels feature.
There’s honestly nothing wrong with any of those options including 2. I get people see algorithm and recommendation and have aneurisms but this space isn’t looking to harm anyone intentionally. If there’s any space we should trust with any kind of algorithms it’s this space as there’s not the same incentives that Big Social has. As long as users can consent and have control.
But to answer your question it would take some hybrid search on top of an aggregator that is explicitly public and respects people’s flags. I know Mastodon is working on a discover service
Do you mind linking your script?
How is mastodon healthier? Please provide examples. Healthier for whom? As there’s an extensive list of people harmed that absolutely do not find mastodon “healthy” let alone “healthier” particularly Black and Brown folks. Bluesky defaults to the same way feeds are presented as Mastodon does, so your statement is false
That’s actually a misconception. This blogpost touches on that https://privacy.thenexus.today/black-twitter-quoting-and-white-toxicity-on-mastodon/ This discusses studies https://absolutelymaybe.plos.org/2023/01/12/quote-tweeting-over-30-studies-dispel-some-myths/?ref=privacy.thenexus.today Also, the Fediverse largely has already have this feature on other platforms and there’s been no mention of toxicity levels increasing. In fact Mastodon has a feature that is actually a known tool for toxicity and harassment which is the PM (Private Mention) feature. I’ve yet to see people call for it to be removed but that’s mostly due to only Black and Brown folks complaining about how they’re harassed via PMs. Others typically dismiss their claims.
The statement about comment history is inconsiderate. People absolutely care about their content. I don’t have to know nor care for their reasons why but it is important to users.
Correct. You have access controls to your POD thus the data within it. As long as there’s an app built for a platform compatible with the protocols ActivityPods is compatible with, which are currently ActivityPub and Solid protocols it will work. It’s not just microblogging and not only compatible with Mastodon. So you can host your POD which would be best or even use a provider which you still have access controls. It’s like renting a locker or storage pod
All it would require is someone making an app on top of it the same way the devs built Mastopod. They built it on top of SemApps which makes it relatively easy to built apps on top of ActivityPods
That’s not true it’s compatible with anything running ActivityPub. It currently has build a Mastodon client as a demo that’s why right now you can use it with Mastodon. They built Mastopod in a week. Part of the pitch it showing devs how relatively simple it is to build apps on top of it. So if someone builds a Pixelfed, Lemmy etc app then you absolutely can use it
Disappointed
I still use Bean as it works for my uses. But, disappointed there wasn’t more transparency and communication. Also, disappointed it wasn’t made Open Source so someone could’ve picked it up. It feels like multiple levels of “screw you” to users
It’s because of how people people on mastodon freak out over privacy and consent. That’s why he wrote that article as the expectations and views of a large number of users are fundamentally against what actually happens
It’s not just for mastodon users, that’s selling it short
https://www.zdnet.com/article/bluesky-social-just-took-a-big-open-source-step-forward/
https://github.com/bluesky-social/social-app/blob/main/LICENSE
Do you always make up bullshit without confirming if you’re right or wrong?
It’s multiple factors but boils down to them being easier for non-techie people to access. It’s also a culture issue. Bluesky culture is more like Mastodon than not but it is more diverse and shifts younger. Lots of gatekeepers and harassers ruined it for would be mastodon users particularly Black and Brown folk that were harassed out of the space. One of the biggest minority ran instances was shut down due to overwhelming harassment. People also don’t want to be preached to nor want to be told how to use their own damn social account and be told they’re using it wrong. Most people legit just wanted Twitter without Musk.
This is weird on multiple levels, Bluesky code is Open Source, it’s federated and no one gives a damn about it being a PBC. It’s mostly about culture why people have gone to Bluesky and Threads
On Bluesky most of the algorithms are made by users, that’s another plus
Are you open source?
This is terrible
I would like to see more creators and more people from the sports world. But, the subcultures of Lemmy and Mastodon won’t allow for that
So weird that no one mentioned https://micro.blog/ Which only after Mastodon was the second platform to adopt ActivityPub.
Reddit mirrors
I know it’s not popular and I’m typically against it but I was listening to a podcast and it made me think there are absolutely important communities that shouldn’t be on a centralised platform like Reddit. The contents of them are so important that it should be on the Open Social Web. I’m wondering if there is someone or a community that mirrors subreddits as I would love for the contents of these communities to be preserved. Such as Preservation

Legal Liabilities
If you are an admin and or instance operator are you protecting yourself legally? A great deal of people have simply spun up instances and treat them like Discord servers and subreddits, but Discord and Reddit are the ones that assume legal liability. Here are some good reads to assist by lawyers and experts that are on the fedi

The perfect Lemmy app?
cross-posted from: https://lemmy.ml/post/12409937
I know there are a ton of iOS apps for Lemmy. But what are they missing? What experiences would you like? It could be quality of life or big and ambitious features Many of you often have really good ideas and feedback, I’m looking forward to responses.

Fediverse apps

Hey guys, with all of your help I would like to get a running list of apps for Fediverse platforms. In such a short time we’ve had so many apps develop and they’ve provided some incredible experiences. For those that have been on Fedi for some time, newer and those that will come, these client apps will play major roles in our experience. Please help me and join me in listing apps. Thanks in advance.

Any alternatives for Artifact users? Ideally, Fediverse integrated
For those that were #Artifact users I will share some alternatives in the meantime. This app is not prime time ready just yet but has HUGE potential. You can simply log in with your Mastodon account. https://apps.apple.com/us/app/nuggets-news-conversation/id6462796101
There’s also the feeds & Fediverse app: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/newsbite/id1478566472
https://testflight.apple.com/join/ixRrWfQL feeeed: rss reader and more I used this second to Artificact

https://apps.apple.com/us/app/perplexity-ask-anything/id1668000334 This is mostly for search but they’ve added a news like feature.
If you guys have any other suggestions please share
Interesting project I came across
Can help users connect with others based on their interests Fedi.fans
I came across this on Artifact
Mastodon won't be the next Twitter, and it's not because of Bluesky. The ideals and execution won't scale.
Fediverse sustainability
I prefer good faith discussions please. I love the Fediverse and love what it can be long term. The problem is that parts of the culture want nothing to do with financial aspect. Many are opposed to ads, memberships, sponsorships etc The “small instances” response does nothing to positively contribute to the conversation. There are already massive instances and not everyone wants to self host. People are concerned with larger companies coming to the Fedi but these beliefs will drive everyday users to those instances. People don’t like feeling disposable and when you hamstring admins who then ultimately shut down their instances that’s exactly how people end up feeling. There has to be an ethical way of going about this. So many people were too hard just to be told “too bad” “small instances” I don’t want to end up with a Fediverse ran by corporations because they can provide stability.
PeerTube development?
With Alphabet taking a hard stance against adblockers I’m wondering if devs are starting to put some focus on PeerTube? It could use some TLC. I feel like it’s a sleeping giant of the Fediverse.
Content creators
Are any of you content creators? Artists? Storytellers? Writers? I believe this is a big part of what’s missing from the Fediverse. Sure there’s work out there but I believe it can be so much better. If any of you are please point us to your work, how we can support you and please be sure to share your work on the Fedi. For those that aren’t but would like to be let’s share ideas. How can we make this a more creative space and more welcoming space to creatives?
Mastodon features
I’m curious as to you guys opinions. It could be Mastodon itself or a Mastodon client. What features would you like to see that are not currently available?

looking for Android and iOS devs for a great fediverse project
Working on an awesome Macro/Microblogging project to bring to the Fediverse. Very excited as it has been built based on hundreds of users feedback regarding Mastodon and the Fediverse. I know time is precious so not looking to suck up anyones time. I respect whatever bandwidth people have to give.
