Halifax council has voted to phase out X (formerly known as Twitter) accounts officially used by the municipality, citing concerns over perceived toxicity on the site and the owner’s close relationship with the United States president.
Council recently received the completed report, which recommended discontinuing all eight active X accounts by July 15 and transitioning to Bluesky, a social media platform that started as a research project at Twitter in 2019, but became independent in 2021.
See you guys again in a few years. It's still progress and I get why it's easier to propose than hosting your own Mastadon instance.

Looking for some DTC meat options in HRM
Years ago we would buy a side of pork or quarter of beef from a couple farms in the valley.
Recently we tried to go back to them but they aren’t available.
Does anyone have leads on farms that still do this? I don’t much processing, or fancy vacuum packaging, etc.
Minimal cuts so I can prepare it myself for steak, roast, chops, bacon, etc.

Donald Trump is Disaster Capitalism personified. He is a chaos agent, creating so much confusion and disorder that the powerful can bulldoze through an exploitive agenda for their own profit. And here in Nova Scotia, Premier Tim Houston is using the excuse of Trump's chaotic tariffs to bulldoze thro...

Halifax boil water advisory: it's from sprawl, and a failure to tie things in properly

These wine crystals in my Red Piquette made me panic for a moment
Edit:
The original title of my post was
"Anyone know what these little shards would be I found in my can I got from 2 Crows Brewery?"
and the text below said
"I'm not sure if it's glass or some kind of settlement that accumulated at the bottom.
It is rather hard. I can't crush it easily with my fingers and it doesn't feel sharp enough to cut me. It has a pink colour to it."
but I contacted 2 Crows and they got back to me really quick.
They are wine crystals!

I had never heard of them before.
I edited the title because I don't want people to be concerned. I love 2 Crows.
Does anyone know where in Halifax I can order weird canned food?
I know you can get canned escargot at Sobeys but I am talking about the real weird stuff. Canned cheeseburgers, full chickens, and bread.
I'd be fine ordering it online as well as long as I am not paying absurd amounts for shipping.
What are some of your favourite local businesses that deserve a shout out?
I'm trying to move away from buying so many things online instead of supporting local. What are some local businesses you folks suggest? Where have you had a great customer experience in the HRM?
Restaurants suggestions and that sort of thing are welcome as well, but I'm mostly interested in finding local alternatives to online stores like Amazon and big chain stores like Walmart.
I created a Discord server for emulation and console modding in Nova Scotia
cross-posted from: https://lemmy.ca/post/9757802
Handheld emulators and console modding are something I have been really into for years and I wanted to create a community for it to make friends and share my skills and resources.
I thought it would be nice to have a place where we could trade and try out each others devices. For example see if the RG35XX is right size for you or how the RG350M feels compared to the RG405M.
Maybe you just need a tri-wing screwdriver or a Xbox 360 slim shim to open up your device? Someone could lend it to you so you aren't waiting a month for a $5 part from Ali Express.
It could also be a good place to find people to game with over RetroArch's Netplay or XLinkKai's remote LAN.
Originally I tried creating a Matrix server for this and advertised it on Reddit but it seems like people weren't willing to join a new platform for it so I settled on Discord to be a little more accessible. Eventually I might put in the effort t
Power grid is so fragile
In my area we have had excellent and consistent service from NS power up until last years hurricane. Yet here we are a year later with winds far less than last year and power is out. But this has been consistent for months. Small storms and bang power gone. How does ns power keep justifying price increases when then apparently have no intention of actually fixing things and making them better? Maybe Mr. CEO and other managers shouldn’t be getting any bonuses and investors should not be getting payouts. Privatization is such a scam.
