In 1345 he personally discovered a collection of Cicero's letters not previously known to have existed, the collection Epistulae ad Atticum, in the Chapter Library (Biblioteca Capitolare) of Verona Cathedral
So basically a guy goes into a library, rummages for a while, and finds ~1400 years old text no one knew was there
Do we still have places that store texts (like libraries, but doesn't have to strictly be a library) where we don't have everything catalogued and we don't know what might be inside?

The wiki says it was transferred to Europe via the middle east. It seems obvious the Arabic numerals we use today are so much easier to work with than Roman numerals.
Was there a noticeable uptick in trade simply because bookkeeping became so much easier? Was there a noticeable uptick in the complexity and pervasiveness of monied, as opposed to in kind, daily trade in all levels of society?
It seems like the humble zero hit the scene and next thing you know the Renaissance is getting under way.

whatever. Even though we people who were from other countries would have thrown parades for them if they were straight or closeted? Am I kind of missing how many lives he saved part? Did he not get any recognition coming home?

AskHistorians @lemmy.world Don_Dickle @lemmy.world How come we don't still have the WPA (Works Project Agency) which created beautiful landmarks, damns and so on. Why did Roosevelt implement it? And why has no pres ever revived it?
Or even talked about it. It employed like a quarter of the country. Why hasn't anyone sense Rosie ever tried to enact something like it instead of us getting upset at unemployment numbers?

Yes, I'm asking about where Hitler got the idea, but also you can see it depicted in media from that era. The fit and beautiful blonde had been portrayed as the ideal and the desirable so much in things like the stereotypical surfer hunk, and Barbie and Ken, and the chain of blonde sex symbol has continued through today. Where did that start?
