Sure... stop by, I'll give it to you!

If I have a $10 bill in my wallet, I would give it to literally anybody who asked me.

These are good! On my instance, my sidebar says "You can stay as long as you’re not being a jerk."

Honest question... just about everything I've read regarding why HFCS is bad is really just about the dangers of consuming sugar in general. Is there something that shows it's worse than sugar?
I totally agree that we eat way too much sugar in America, and I'm all for reducing. I just wonder if any efforts to this end should be focused on ALL sources of sugar, not just HFCS.

I think this is just a terminology difference. The documentation says that "Add Ons" are not supported in Container and Core, but "Add Ons" means the easy button you press to install those services. All of those Add On services are just containers that HAOS manages for you. Every single one of them can be set up as a container manually and function the same as the official "Add Ons."
I don't know for sure, but I wonder if the reason for this is that it's not technically possible for a container to manage other external containers. Does anybody know about this?

To be fair, Addons are just other containers. If you're using a Docker install for Home Assistant, I think the idea is you already have a handle on your docker host, and you're capable of adding whatever other containers you might need.

"On Her Majesty's Secret Service" by Propellerheads has an amazing bass drop in the middle of the song.
I'm also partial to "Empire Ants" by Gorillaz.

Yes! It sets the tone for the show so perfectly. Just to satisfy my curiosity, I pulled up the first episode on Hulu... the new music gives a completely different tone. It's terrible!

House. I feel bad for anybody who's not seen it with the original intro music.

What makes you think the "loud minority" wasn't the people who voted for Trump in the first place?

Interesting... if that's true, then you can know what temperature each setting on the knob is.
I wonder if this is true for all electric ranges?

Is this true?? I always assumed that electric ranges simply had a variable duty cycle controlled by the knob. That would mean that if you want to get a pot up to a specific temperature, the fastest way is to set the knob to high until you reach the temperature, then reduce the knob to the desired temperature.
This is different from how an HVAC works, where you set an actual temperature and the HVAC runs until that temperature is reached.
But I could be totally wrong about how electric ranges work.

Parker, specifically the Jotter. I still have and use a stainless steel one that I bought in 1999 because I kept losing pens, and I thought that if I spent a little more on one I might take better care of it. It's my favorite by far.

Gotcha... as you can see, it probably depends on who you ask!
"Echo chamber" definitely has a negative connotation, which is why I don't think the specific-purpose group is acting as an echo chamber at least not insofar as they are keeping the group on-topic.

I'm assuming this is meant to be an example of a real-world scenario, and I suspect it would be helpful to hear the actual scenario so that we can comment on the nuances of the specifics rather than wondering if the nuances of the example are relevant or not.
But, to take your example at face value: no, I don't believe the expelled rose-lover is correct about the tulip lover's club being an echo chamber. The tulip lover's club is about tulips... it's in the name, and that's why it's members gather there. The rose-lover is coming in talking off-topic to the point that the members of the tulip lover's club have found it distracting. It's nothing to do with an echo chamber. I would probably expel someone from my chess club if they showed up and constantly tried to get everyone to play monopoly instead.

I'm having a hard time imagining an accident caused by not wearing a seatbelt... I guess maybe being thrown from the vehicle and hitting a passenger in another car who was wearing a seatbelt?

Cheers to that!

There is legitimately good wine at just about every price point... You definitely should not write off a wine just because of the price.
And conversely, there's lots of BAD wine that's expensive.
Try everything and keep track of what you like! Your wine drinking experience will improve, and it'll probably cost you less to boot!

How do you counter the arguments about strategic votes in Cardinal voting systems? Those arguments are explained here: https://betterchoices.vote/Cardinal
Put simply, Approval is still subject to strategic voting that undermines the purpose of the system. In practice, nobody is going to approve of a centrist candidate from the other party because that approval vote might be the only reason that their party loses.
0.19.4 Prerequisites
The release notes for 0.19.4 mention that this version requires an upgrade to both pictrs and postgres, but there isn't any information about what versions of those are supported. Is there someplace else I should be looking for this information? Or should I just YOLO with the latest version of each?
Report Function?
I'm a little confused as to how the "report" function works. I'm an instance admin, but if I report a post on another instance, that report shows up in MY report queue. If I mark that report as "resolved" to get rid of the notification count, does it resolve it on the home instance?

META: Posting Links to Buy Things
I'm curious what everyone thinks about the posts that have shown up here that are simply a link to purchase an item on Amazon?
These posts are coming from users that don't have any other engagement other than these posts. This does not seem like a good-faith effort to engage with the community, but rather a cheap attempt to generate clicks and sales.
I would like to see these posts banned, but I'm curious how the rest of the community feels.

Lemmy Theming - Instructions
cross-posted from: https://tkohhh.social/post/4829
Unfortunately, the official documentation on theming lemmy is severely lacking. I made some progress on getting it figured out today, so I wanted to share that with you all.
This is by no means meant to be an exhaustive guide, but my hope is that it will at least get you going. I'm sure that I will say things that are incorrect, so please correct me if you know better!
Background
Lemmy uses Bootstrap-compatible theming. As far as I can tell, this means that it uses a pre-defined set of CSS classes. This is important because if you provide a CSS file that doesn't have all of the correct classes defined, it will break the layout of your lemmy.
Your custom CSS needs to be saved in the bind mount for your lemmy-ui container. If you followed the install instructions on join-lemmy.org, th

How to generate CSS files from SCSS files?
I'm hoping one of the developers can help point me in the right direction.
I'm trying to create a theme, and I started by downloading the litely.scss
and _variables.litely.scss
files from the github repo. I renamed the files and made some changes, and then used https://bootstrap.build to generate a css
file. I dropped that file (along with my scss
files) into the extra_themes
directory on my server.
Sure enough, my new theme was available in the list of available themes. However, when I applied the theme, I found that the layout was broken (see screenshot).
So, my question is: how can I generate the css
file in the proper manner so as not to break the layout? Is there a specific Bootstrap tool that we should be using to generate the css
? Are there additional input files that need to be included in order to generate the correct css
?
Thanks for any help you can provide!

"Exclusive Shares" on Unraid 6.12
My favorite new feature of 6.12 is the "Exclusive Shares" concept. Here's a rundown:
Background
Unraid user shares are a FUSE, which allows data on multiple drives to be presented as a single file system. This idea is at the heart of Unraid's Array, as well as the concept of "Cache Pools" (now known as Named Pools). Any time you see a path that starts with /mnt/user
in Unraid, that's a FUSE (prior to 6.12, that is).
FUSE is great for giving us this transparent way to view our files without having to worry about which physical drive those files reside on. However, this comes at a cost... and that cost is reduced performance for applications running on an SSD Named Pool.
This performance penalty wasn't always noticeable, but it would sometimes rear it's ugly head in unexpected ways (exampes: graylog and [duplicati](https://forum.duplicati.com/t/backup-runtim
