  • True but point of OP is that it used to be liberal echo chamber but that has now changed.

Clearly Elon wants it a different way so you post anything you like as long as it fits Elon's desired narrative.

  • I am positting that price gouging has already hit peak and tariffs will limit corpos ability to price gouge.

They barely pay income taxes, they will pay have to pay some of these tariffs from their profits at the very least. A suggestion that led to the melt down in this thread from mean Lemmy.

  • You are assuming US customers will just keep consuming same shit and pay higher prices 100%?

Have you never heard of substitution tactics s or just forgoing discretionary spending

Y'all got some warped view of how consumption "must happen" and "can't be changed"

It is a reshuffle. People and businesses will make adjustments.

  • US is good sufficient and mostly energy sufficient although we have oil mix and refining capacity mismatch.

The win is they will consime less plastic trash while paying higher prices for goods that they actually need. Less trash, they will value more of what they buy.

For me personallly, seeing these corporate proift wiped is enjoyable after half a decade of price gouging.

Second hand markets will get a boost too.

But the bigger point I am making is how idiots are shilling corporate agenda they internalized it so strongly to where it turns into melt downs

  • 145% tariff is effectively a trade embargo. The only good that will be imported are of strategic nature... Ie medical supplies.

People will have either substitute or out right forgo consumers goods.

As I noted above I dont even disagree that end customer will eat part of the cost. My thesis is that we got brain dead normies running around repeating the cropotate thesis:

it's a tax once consumer, make daddy trump stop hurt me the consumer

When the nuance is brought to light, the normie has a melt down. You can check my comment history. this ain't the first thread.

I don't under why modal Lemmy is so opposed to the concept that this will hurt corpos profits first.

  • You have a juvenile understanding of the topic and also prepeating propaganda.

Tariff is a tax on corporate profit margin first and foremost.

Any accountant r economist can tell you this.

Managing tariff obligations requires a thorough understanding of the related accounting practices. These costs must be accurately identified and recorded in inventory valuation to ensure financial statements reflect the true cost structure of the business. Adherence to GAAP and IFRS is essential for accurate reporting.

Tariffs can create significant cash outflows, affecting liquidity and necessitating robust forecasting models to predict these impacts. Strategies such as negotiating extended payment terms with suppliers or optimizing working capital can maintain financial stability. Additionally, leveraging tax credits or deductions available under the Internal Revenue Code can offset some tariff-related financial burdens.

    https://accountinginsights.org/protective-tariff-example-how-it-impacts-accounting-and-finance/

Sure some of that will likely ended up being "paid by maga"

But skipping the impact on corporate profit is you being either disingenuous or a useful idiot.

  • The headline is a clear indicator that OP doesn't understand how global trade works.

Chinese companies don't import goods into US, American companies do... Amazon, Walmart, gap, etc

They serve as an Importer of Record and they pay the tariffs, which squeezes US companies profit marhin first if they chose to continue to import.

Them being able to pass on the tariffs on consumers is TBD...

Sure medical supplies, not much of a choice...

But a lot of this consumption is just brain dead American normie buying plastic Chinese trash. They will have to decide if it is worth for them.

But the idea that US corpo recovering 100% of tariffs on discretionary products is is just corpo propaganda that y'all larping too hard.

    Get educated

Just looking to seed the place a little a bit with some side bar discussion, maybe get into more feeds to spread the word.

When I joined fedi, privacy on ml seemed like decently robust community but I would posit that endless modding of anti China and Russia sentiment really chocked the air out of it.

Best HDD/SSD for local media hosting

Need to expand local storage for local media streaming. Running a regular desktop on linux.

I am willing to spend money on "the best" for streaming purpose while and hopefully something I can keep reusing down the road if it lasts.
