  • That’s pretty cool! But if thats the closest thing, I think I can safely say this is a unique feature in the non terminal ui class of Lemmy clients.

  • I like jakewvincent/mkdnflow.nvim for editing markdown, though tbh I've mostly just used it to check/uncheck todo lists.

  • Thanks! Android requires me to add like a dozen manual closed beta testers via email before I can create an open beta test. I was thinking about just skipping beta testing and going directly to Play Store.
    \
\ I'll DM you details soon. Even if I do launch Android directly to Google Play, I still would love some feedback from someone that daily drives Android. I'm looking at everything though the lens of an iOS user.

  • Yes! I was thinking exactly that. I’m just not sure exactly how to go about that (just start DMing server owners?). I was also thinking I want to achieve a certain level of polish before I approach anyone, but I tend to be a little too much of a perfectionist.

The last two big things I’m missing are signup flow and messages. After that, I think it’s mostly bug fixes and minor improvements.

  • That web app will stay active. My plan is to catch people’s attention with the web app but encourage people to download the native apps for macOS, iOS, Android, and I’m thinking about adding Linux. iOS and Android are currently in beta.

What I really need are a few more users. I’m pouring a lot of time into developing this. I’m realizing marketing an app is a whole other skill that I don’t have.

A few users would both help me feel like I’m building this for someone, and hopefully provide some feedback.

Blorp, write code in your lemmy posts and comments with realtime syntax highlighting!

    Try it!
    \
\ I haven’t seen another Lemmy client that lets you write code in your post with real-time syntax highlighting. It’s not just code. Write your posts in rich text without toggling between Markdown and preview.

There are a lot of Lemmy clients, so I’m sure someone else does this. But I wanted to share in case anyone else finds this helpful.

Blorp v1.1.0 Released with Support for Android!

The entire app has been rewritten. This is to address performance issues, make Android possible, but most importantly, it lays the groundwork for more work to come!

Theres also a ton of small bug fixes included in this release.

    Download

Android Beta - looking for testers!

    • Google requires me to do some closed beta testing before I can open it to the public
    • DM [email protected] with the email associalted with your Google account for access (this is temporrary)

Edit: iOS is waiting on approval from Apple. Expect an update from TestFlight in the next 24-48 hours. Web, macOS, and Android area all ready to test today!

  • Where are you finding low risk investments with that much interest? Genuine question. Maybe I should shop around more. I would expect closer to 3.5-4%.

  • I appreciate the kind words! Let me know if there is any specific features you would like me to prioritize next. I already have a big update in the works, but I’m thinking I improve the crest post experience.

  • Just saw this! I’m pretty new to Lemmy - about 6 months. I really wanted a lemmy app that was cross platform, optimized for larger and smaller screens, and had some offline capabilities.

I have a big update in the works for Blorp, and I will be launching Android beta very soon. Currently it’s web, MacOS, and iOS. Linux will likely be next after Android.

Still a lot of work to do, but I think I’ve laid a really good foundation so far.

    Try it!

  • To be fair, we should probably all start migrating to cybersecurity positions. They’ll need it when they discover how many vulnerabilities were created by all the non-programmers vibe coding.

  • I really think the issue would be load on server bandwidth (depending who’s hosting the image). 2mb is not good for client performance, but in the grand scheme of things it’s not that much data. Video streaming consumes so much more. I would like to see smaller images so clients can load a feed of images faster. It’s also annoying because Lemmy doesn’t always tell you the size of the images. So the height of posts will shift in your feed as images are loaded.

  • lemmy shouldn’t require posters to compress their own images. Compression should happen automatically. It will save both the severs and end users bandwidth

  • Is that true? I know threads can federate with activity pub but 1) does opt in federation imply it’s somehow different than other activity pub based apps and 2) it can federate with mastodon but it’s not based on mastodons itself? I’m asking

Truth social, if that’s true, I had no idea it was AP, but I really hope nobody ever federates with them.

  • the correct answer was vim, but I’ll allow it

  • Do it then. Replace the app with pen and paper. I think the app is calling your bluff.

    Android support coming soon!

    Quick update:

I've been working on this project for a few months. After fighting some of the technical choices I've made, I've decided to rework some big components of the app. The next version, which will likely be 1.1.0, will take a few weeks, but should improve performance on iOS and will also launch on Android.

Because I'm rewriting a large portion of the app, it will likely be a 1 step back 2 steps forward situation. You may notice some steps back on iOS, but ultimately it this will synchronize web with Android/iOS better making it easier to manage all 3 projects and meaning better apps on all platforms in the near future.

Thanks again for everyone's support so far! Please keep your feedback coming, though I likely won't be able to address that feedback until I finish this major update in a few weeks.

    • Increase the sizing of the login form to make it to use

Appreciate all the feedback so far!

I'm struggling a little to get the performance I want on iOS. I'm curious if anyone is using an older iPhone. I w

Announcing the Blorp Mac App Preview – Available to Test Now!

Blorp is at a stage where there's still plenty of work to do, but I’m ready to start gathering feedback. The main areas that need improvement are enhancing the post creation experience and adding the ability to sign up directly through Blorp.

That said, Blorp is already very usable. I’ve chosen to launch the Mac app first because, among all the Lemmy clients, the desktop space is the least saturated. I’m starting with Mac since that’s where I’ve done all my testing, but the plan is to expand to Linux and Windows as well.

I’d love for you to download Blorp for Mac! If you’re not ready to install it yet, or you're not on a mac but still want to check it out, you can use the web version at blorpblorp.xyz.
