AI isn't ready to replace just about anybody's job, and probably never will be technically, economically or legally viable.

That said, the c-suit class are certainly going to try. Not only do they dream of optimizing all human workers out of every workforce, they also desperately need to recoup as much of the sunk cost that they've collectively dumped into the technology.

Take OpenAI for example, they lost something like $5,000,000,000 last year and are probably going to lose even more this year. Their entire business plan relies on at least selling people on the idea that AI will be able to replace human workers. The minute people realize that OpenAI isn't going to conquer the world, and instead end up as just one of many players in the slop space, the entire bottom will fall out of the company and the AI bubble will burst.

Big tech will do what is best for extracting money customers and investors.

Why the fuck is our media so bad that they blindly accept Trump's bullshit line that the tariffs are "reciprocal"? Are they just stupid or have they been paid off? I had pretty mixed feelings about Stampede but I'm glad to Vash and the world of Trigun coming back again. Pretty interesting that Oshiyama is doing the animation character designs. If only they could bring back Tsuneo Imahori (the composer of the original Trigun anime) for the soundtrack.

I blame the Americans for fucking up the most outrageously obvious binary choice in history.

Has there ever been an election so obvious? Even during Trump vs Clinton one could almost be forgiven for giving Trump the benefit of the doubt as a "political outsider", but by 2024 we knew exactly who this fucking guy was... The fact that people today are acting surprised and outraged about all the stuff that's been happening during Trump's first 1.5 months is only further proof that Americans are perhaps the dumbest amnesiacs to infest the Earth.

Literally all we had to do was vote against Trump's particular brand of fascism.

But Americans are the type of people who fail a single question true or false quiz because they forgot to write their name at the top of the page, and we deserve to suffer the consequences of our collective stupidity over and over until it is bred out of us, or until our society falls. The American people allowed this to happen--and not just Trump, but everything bad that has happened over the course of American history.

But seriously this is good news and I'm glad to have you all here. Lemmy is in a pretty good position right now in terms of having a critical mass of users and decent traction within popular communities. At the very least it feels self-sustaining here.

To be totally honest, this isn't about stock market gamesmanship to me--I'm not trying to buy the dip over the next few days. (If anything I'm waiting for the AI bubble, which I personally believe is bigger than the .com bubble, to blow the fuck up.)

Between incompetent idiots and assholes running everything, ridiculously inflated stock prices, meme stocks and market manipulation, on-again-off-again trade war bullshit, and the AI bubble, I'm happy to have my money out of the market. I have zero faith in the people who are running our economy to do anything worth investing in, and I'll be perfectly happy to find alternative means of investing over the next 2-4 years.

Frankly, I'm sick of putting almost my entire life savings in the hands of corporations and the delusional k-holed fucknuts like Musk who run them. It's a bonus that I'm no longer the shameful owner of bullshit ETFs and company shares that serve only to enrich and empower the richest corporate oligarchs.

I've lived through multiple crashes already, maybe I'll hop back into the stock market during the next one, or maybe not because fuck this whole system.

I sold all of my stocks a couple weeks back and I'm feeling pretty fucking good about that right now.
