  • I use safari with an adblocker extension (AdGuard) on ios

youtube works just fine in a browser, the youtube app sucks anyway

  • that graphic showing how many laps on the current stint is going to work overtime today

  • the beginning of the interview was funny as well

Naomi apparently didn't know Lando's lap time was deleted and she asked Oscar 'why am I talking to you?'

  • I'd been using Unity off-and-on for more than a decade, even published two crappy mobile games back in the day

this recent kerfuffle led me to find Godot and I actually quite enjoy it. so even if Unity did a full reversal I can't see myself ever going back to it

I had no idea their CEO was from EA, so in a way I'm glad all this happened as I learned quite a bit

  • oh interesting, hadn't come across that project before

    thanks for the tip!

  • does the switch pro controller use different joysticks than the joycons?

my joycons have drift but the pro controller, which I've used more often, is perfectly fine

  • wow scary stuff! going back into lockdown immediately!!

A recently noted medical phenomenon involves small amounts of DHMO leaking or oozing from the corners of the eyes as a direct result of causes such as foreign particulate irritation, allergic reactions including anaphylactic shock, and sometimes severe chemical depression.

  • thanks for the heads up, loading it now!!

  • man, so many old school internet references will go unnoticed on lemmy :(

  • Nice article!

iRacing Celebrates 15th Anniversary with Free Credits for Active Users

iRacing is granting all active users iRacing credits equal to the age of your account (up to 15 credits)

For example, if you created your account in August 2008, you will receive $15 in credits. Every active member will receive at least $1 in credit, even if you created your account on August 25th of this year. If you joined five years ago, you will get $5 in credit.

  • what is proper cross-posting etiquette

if you want to cross-post the same exact image to a different community there should be a link at the top of this post to cross-post (if using the desktop web ui), it sorta looks like a copy icon

but if you wanted to use a new photo then I think just creating a new post over there is probably easiest

I've gone ahead and subscribed to that other community, hopefully it gains some traction. I enjoy seeing old finds from yard sales, etc

  • the only general community I could find while searching is this one, but it appears to be completely empty

    [email protected]

kinda surprised there isn't a generic vintage type community, maybe there is one out there somewhere!

  • ha, I used to go the grocery store specifically to read entire magazines

  • just ordered a nice OTA antenna so I can watch my local channels, anything else needed will be purchased for exactly 1 month and then cancelled

I've also started looking at smaller streaming services like CuriosityStream and MagellanTV cause I'm more interested in documentaries and such instead of the latest weekly tv dramas

  • poor management all around, grasping at short term solutions because they can't see past the next quarterly financial reports

our company actually closed several offices due to low in-person turnout after the pandemic started to ease up, and they said they would just sub-lease out the buildings to recuperate money

those of us in the office cities are now fully remote

  • yep

I’ll take my lower salary to sit in my home office with central air

I wouldn’t last a day as a driver with their expectations and the need to move/lift heavy packages in the heat

  • Yeah mentions of speed typically mean ‘over a safe speed (depending on conditions), or over the legal speed limit’

The full report would likely list one or more secondary factors as well, such as collision with a fixed object or whatever actually helped launch this car into the air

Sounds like this person wanted to ram the house so they floored it, but flying into the 2nd story was not planned

Greg Hill was on the iRacing Race for More 2.4 livestream yesterday, a charity race and livestream for the National MS Society, and showed quite a video few clips of iRacing wet weather in action, explaining all the variability of the system they have developed. Footage shows clouds forming, rain starting, damp track, puddle formation, sunshine, drying line, drying track and more. A few different tracks are shown, including Daytona’s roadcourse. He also talks about the racing line being more slippy in the wet, like real life.

Lemmy's active users appear to have stabilized over the past two weeks

    According to https://lemmy.fediverse.observer/dailystats

Lemmy has ~67,500 daily active users over the past two weeks (it did peak at around 72,000)

How do you feel about the activity in your communities?

Do you think it will take another 'event' on some other website for more growth, or do you think Lemmy can grow naturally from here?

Or are you fine with the current activity and don't necessarily see the need for more users at this time?

Software Testing - Discussions on testing in the software development world

I recently requested and was approved to have a new community created on the programming.dev instance called Software Testing

This is a community for people who would like to discuss, learn, or ask questions on software testing

Unit, Integration, Functional, Automation - all the fun stuff!

QA, Devs, POs, or anyone at all are welcome!

took a gander around and didn't see anything at first glance

I'm not sure how much activity there would be, but it'd be neat to have imo

was anyone else disappointed that planes were not literally falling out of the sky on Y2K?

anyway, here are some real world examples of actual problems that did occur

I did like the Leonard Nimoy video with experts attempting to rate how bad things were going to be :)

and of course the Y2K survival kit commercial was unintentionally hilarious with the shattered glass and sirens going off in the background

did anyone here have to deal with issues caused by Y2K, or spend time preparing systems beforehand?

Is it possible to create a Lemmy post with an external link from Mastodon?

I know a Mastodon user can create a new post by mentioning a Lemmy community, but I believe it is just a text post

Here was an example I found of this:
    https://lemmy.world/post/82145

Does anyone know if it is possible to create a post in Lemmy via Mastodon that is a link to somewhere else such as a website?

I suppose I could just put the link in the body of the text post but a direct link would be cool, if possible

    Windows 3.1 SkiFree (WinSki)

SkiFree is the standalone version of the game originally included as a part of the Microsoft Entertainment Pack 3 (1991) for Windows 3.x, and later made available separately for Windows 3.x. It was then re-compiled for 32-bit Windows systems when the author found back the source code and released it for free through his website.

The skier can be steered using the keyboard or the mouse. It is also possible to jump, but the biggest ones are achieved with the help of rocks, bumps and rainbow-coloured pads. After the finish, the skier can move on until he is caught by the abominable snow monster. There are various obstacles, such as trees, snowboarders, rocks and more.
