Here is an idea what one can do to reduce seeding of a high peer count torrents:

    1. if you have some paused complete torrents, make sure to label these to reflect the reason for pausing
    2. unpause all complete torrents
    3. disable limit of number of actively seeding torrents (queuing) to make all torrents actively seeding (this will update seeder counts, longer to wait = possibly better?)
    4. select to display only Seeding state torrents
    5. sort all according to the Seeder count by clicking the column header
    6. select all with high amount of seeders (lets say 10+) by clicking first one, holding Shift key, click last one), right click and set them label "High seeder count torrents tmp paused 2025-04" and then pause these torrents.

-> You end up seeding only low seeded torrents. After several months or a year, you can repeat the process.

UnstoppableSwap makers offers currently too expensive service with 3% rates markup/fee

https://unstoppableswap.net/ / https://github.com/UnstoppableSwap/core makers (i do not mean a SW developers, but swap providers) seems to have swap markup (assuming a fee) of around 3% which is too expensive and along with the limits on amount of traded coin pretty unusable IMO. Am I missing any makers or source for it which allows near zero fees/markup? Why such makers are not available (by default)?

I am currently using RetoSwap https://github.com/retoaccess1/haveno-reto which allowed me to place and complete the BTC and ETH exchange to XMR at 0% fee. (only paying regular Monero tx fee for a temporary custody)

How to setup an UnstoppableSwap maker? Is it this https://github.com/UnstoppableSwap/core/blob/master/dev-docs/asb/README.md . I do not see any easy to understand tutorial for layman which would tell me the requirements (evaluate the cost) + be easily understandable.

  • Monero does not appreciate in its price as much as mainstream cryptocurrencies so I am not holding much Monero. Rather using it occasionally to buy the hosting/server services for privacy. I can buy/sell XMR privately for fiat or BTC/ETH/LTC using RetoSwap https://github.com/retoaccess1/haveno-reto

  • Haveno itself is a testing version which does not allow real trading.

You need to find other software based on Haveno, which allows real trading (uses Monero mainnet servers while Haveno itself a testnet?).

Possibly most popular is Reto (RetoSwap). Its official Github repository is https://github.com/retoaccess1/haveno-reto

I am yet to find any list of Haveno mainnet software. Btw. here is some guide which explains steps for trading inside Haveno based trading software: https://internetlifeforum.com/showthread.php?28833-Exchanging-Monero-and-fiat-privately-without-KYC-using-open-source-software-Haveno

How to add a remote device, enable sync on CLI? Says: rejected: unknown device

On my desktop computer, I have tried to use Syncthing WebUI to add my remote headless server (no GUI/display, only CLI), which was established by just running ./syncthing command. I have got the ID from the CLI output.

Yet my WebUI tells me "connection refused" and "context deadline exceeded" and the headless server output shows "rejected: unknown device" next to my connection attempt.

In a "syncthing --help" output, I am unable to find any command which would add mine defined remote machine ID and allow its connections.

I have tried to access http://headless/ server IP:8384/ but it timeout. I am unable to find any firewall blocking, another service on a different port is accessible.

Any idea how to proceed interconnecting the two devices simplest way?

If anyone wants to check, here is a video showing a Firefox dev. console (F12 key) and errors occured on https://www.openstreetmap.org/search?query=Oslo#map=8/59.973/10.723

I would like to find the causing extension without the need of disabling extensions randomly or by disabling half of extensions, then if issue solved, disable half of that half etc..

Sometimes it helps to hover over the link near the error on dev. console (F12 key), Console tab, to see the moz-extension://somestring and find first characters of the string at page about:debugging#/runtime/this-firefox Though this time, it does not show that IMO (per the linked video).

If I should click something particular in a FF dev. console (F12), please guide me. Thank you.

  • Quoting from https://docs.featherwallet.org/guides/nodes

However, a malicious remote node can:

    • execute an attack that may reveal the true input of a transaction. This attack does not reveal how much is spent or to whom. This attack has a low chance of succeeding and Feather will warn you if it detects this attack.
    • make your outgoing transactions stick out by manipulating the transaction fee that you pay.
    • associate your outgoing transactions with your IP address (but only if all traffic is routed through clearnet, see Tor support for more information. By default, transactions are broadcast over Tor.)

If you have an insight/feedback on this, please comment.

Feather wallet Tor connection setting "Switch to Tor after initial synchronization" am I anonymous leaving this set?

    Hello,

Feather wallet Monero synchronization (that happens after startign the Feather wallet) which is not done over Tor is enough anonymous?

  • Ok, so spending received XMR within 15 blocks (block time seems to be 2 minutes, so half a hour) is too early and spending every 6 months incoming payments in one single tx to my secondary wallet i suppose is too long time.. hmm, that is all quite complicated, I can't asses/compare these times (30 minutes vs 1 month vs 6 months) significance of the impact on anonymity. But thank you.

  • I will need to consolidate/sweep hundreds of transactions maybe once per year and pay it to someone in one big transaction. This big transaction is mandatory, i can not pay them in small amounts. The plan on how to proceed is already mentioned below when you search for "C)" on this page. Please if it is wrong or if you have an improvement idea (anonymity-wise), comment on that below. Thank you

  • Thx, I have found that the small to medium Lemmy instances are NOT aware about the post, yet most of big instances are. So it fits what has been said: "New posts and comments should always propagate if at least one user is subscribed to the community." - big instances and old instances has higher likelyhood of someone being subscibed to it prior to me posting the post, so the instance could download that post. A quick look at the https://join-lemmy.org/docs/administration/federation_getting_started.html does not answer that question. Though at least ChatGPT has an opinion (which may be misleading) 😀

the probability of it (the post) being distributed on multiple instances depends on factors such as the popularity of the post, the number of upvotes and comments it receives, and how widely it is shared across different instances. Posts that generate a lot of engagement and discussion are more likely to be distributed on multiple instances, as they are more likely to be shared and reposted by users. Additionally, posts that are deemed relevant or controversial may also be more likely to be spread across multiple instances.

I am unsure what it means by shared (i assume just posting a link is not enough).
