  • Hey there. I learned about Immich from Louis Rossmann's channel. Promptly forgot about it. It popped up in my feed just now. This is just one way that Immich could come to the attention of anyone spontaneously. If I was interested in using Immich, I would probably also ask about paid services for hosting because my current circumstances prohibit self-hosting. But I'm not interested in using Immich, nor do I have the money to pay for such a service anyway.

Not everything is some sort of conspiracy.

EDIT: Also, if you think the guy's a bot, why bother replying? Furthermore, why bother replying as though they were human? "Who sent you" psssh smh goofy ah guy

  • Fantastic game but I'm honestly so shit at the combat. So my Henry is a goth who prowls at night, stealing the goods of every shopkeeper in his quest for revenge.

Also, massacred the monastery and accidentally saved so I guess he's done that, too.

  • Mm, yeah, I'll just go and deify every party leader in those parties that prop up European governments. Singh didn't do anything more than what a minority government encourages. He's not special, he's just some guy. Just like the rest of those cunts in parliament. Don't get me wrong, I'm happy that some NDP policy got through. But I don't believe it's wise to put any politician up on a pedestal in any situation.

  • Really hoping people remember all of Smith's BS in 2027. But what am I saying? UCP'll just wipe the slate clean with a new leader (boogaloo) and then everyone will just have to vote UCP again. Nevermind the fact that voting for the same jackasses time and time again means you have absolutely no leverage in government. One of the most educated places in Canada, and therefore the world, and yet the average cunt is still dumb as bricks. I hate this place.

  • Funniest thing is those patents were filed after Palworld's release. Nintendo really has no leg to stand on.

EDIT: Also, Pokemon itself was released after Shin Megami Tensei. It's important to realize that while Pokemon may have perfected the monster collecting genre (for a time - I'm looking at you, Scarlet/Violet...) they were certainly not its progenitor and never have been the only player in the field.

  • I find that native clients are almost always a worse experience than running through Proton. Cursors not hiding or not appearing, inability to adjust certain graphics/display settings, and, rarely, worse performance than through Proton (including not actually managing to init).

That said, Proton has its own irritating quirks. Try turning off mouse acceleration in Skyrim on Linux for instance. Have to use protontricks to find the appid, then you have to nav to it in any of the locations that it could be found (depending on flatpak, native, etc.), and then you have to sift through the prefix to find the bloody INI that has the setting to toggle.

But as an indie dev, you should do whatever makes less work for you so you can do more with your time. If supporting native Linux will increase your workload and detract from work on the game itself, then simply don't support it. Just make sure that your Windows builds work via Proton.

EDIT: Here's a specific example from today. For reference, I normally play everything through Proton so I haven't intentionally loaded a native game for like 6 months. But today I loaded up Yooka-Laylee not realizing it had a native version. Get in, alt tab to screencast on Discord aaand... the game nixed my cursor entirely. I mean, it likely just locked it to the game window, but that still means that I couldn't interact with my PC outside the game window. So quickly downloaded the Proton version and it worked just fine after that.

  • From what I understand, they're wanting what Cisco does on Windows. Programmes hosted on a server that appear on a remote client when run. Problem is, Cisco is also relatively slow and will never run as fast as a programme hosted on the client machine itself. The biggest hurdle is the network speed of the client.

When will Steam stop using i386 packages?

Almost every distro I've used so far ends up having problems installing Steam due to mismatching i386 packages. I've heard that they're being removed upstream. Anyone happen to know a timeline?

Would it be possible to install Linux on this HP Chromebook Plus?

This is the laptop in question. It has an x86 processor so basically any distro should work on it. However, it is still a Chromebook which likely means Google fuckery in the BIOS. But it's great value for the money (can get it $300 off at Costco) and if I can plop Linux on to it then I'd love it.

What would happen to your body if you only ate 750g of 2% cottage cheese every day for a month?

    Picture for nutritional info.

Why is lemmy so popular in the Netherlands?

Been poking around All recently and I've noticed that there is more lemmy activity in Dutch than any other non-English language. German following that, and then Portuguese (I think, maybe Spanish). I see more Nederlander posts than even the UK instances. So what's up with this? Cheers from Canada 😙

Could a lottery/lotteries be used to fund a newspaper in Canada?

Reading up on One Big Union. The Wikipedia article mentions that at the end of its days it was generating income via a lottery in its bulletin. This gave me an idea.

In the interest of diversifying news media, strengthening journalistic practices and integrity, creating non-partisan news coverage, and giving Canadian works a national outlet for publishing, I would like to start an online newspaper. However, I would like to limit ads since I find them distasteful at best and compromising at worst. This leaves subscription income and one-off purchases as the main revenue sources.

The issue with this is that people don't purchase news media anymore. They either look at an ad-supported website or they wait for someone else to buy a paywalled article and copypaste it somewhere. So the issue with a non-ad-supported model is that there's no incentive to buy. Hence, a lottery a la a 50/50 draw or some such. This would give people ince
