Cast Iron Chicken Thighs

Just some chicken thighs cooked in a cast iron skillet.

Seasoning is herbs, salt, pepper, onion and garlic powder, paprika and cayenne.

I should have used the larger pan.

Just chicken thighs in a Lodge 10" skillet. Seasoning is pretty basic with, herbs, salt, pepper, onion and garlic powder, paprika and a little cayenne.

Update: I decided to remove the smallest piece to cook after these.

  • That's fair. I won't put all veterans or active duty in the same group.

I do expect to see military stepping with law enforcement while knocking people's doors down.

Expecting anything else would make me a fool after seeing what has already been done.

I'd rather be surprised that they don't than surprised that they do.

  • I'd be very surprised if any of them actually did.

They are all cut from the same cloth. I personally know veterans that eat up the Rights propaganda while believing everyone else is wrong.

When someone brings up Republican dog whistles they can't stop themselves from joining in.

All the Right has to do is say "something something America!" and they'll just follow orders. Literally the way it was conditioned into them.

To the Lighthouse by Virginia Woolf - Free Public Domain Ebook Download

Another free download, check your local laws to verify. Enjoy!

"Set on an island off the Scottish coast, To the Lighthouse minutely examines the fleeting impressions of a large cast of family, friends, lovers, and hangers-on. Who can we be, Virginia Woolf invites us to ask, if no one can ever know our hearts—if they’re unknowable even to ourselves? To the Lighthouse remains one of the most important Modernist novels, exquisitely composed by one of the most gifted writers of the Modernist movement."

Walnut Box with Walnut and Maple Lid

I used walnut for the box and handcut dovetails for the joinery. I had triangular offcuts that I glued together to make the lid.

I made this a few years ago so I can't remember if I used handtools or a table saw to dimension the wood.

The finish is pure Tung Oil.

    Thanks for reading!

    Fried chicken, cornbread & broccoli

I used my 5qt Dutch Oven to deep fry some chicken and my 10" Lodge skillet to bake some cornbread. If I had thought about it before I started cooking, I would have used the 8" Lodge skillet to roast the broccoli in the oven too!

The oil was too hot when I added the chicken so it came out a little dark. I used seasoned panko style bread crumbs. The cornbread is just a premixed box. I usually try to make things from scratch but I just wasn't in the mood.

    Enjoy!

Oklahoma Onion Burger - 13" Lodge Skillet

It's probably the easiest and fastest burger I've ever cooked.

Form the beef into a ball and season with salt and pepper. Smash the ground beef into a hot skillet and press thinly sliced white onion directly on top. Cook until the sides of the burger are browned and flip with onions to cook the other side. It only takes a few minutes.

Add cheese and buns on top to heat and steam. A few minutes later remove everything from the skillet and assemble. Enoy!

Calm Carving | The Making of a Wooden Pouring Vessel in Black Walnut - Precise Measure Technique - Samuel Alexander

"I am back with another Calm Carving episode and this time, I carve a bulbous pouring vessel from some incredible black walnut. The walnut was sustainably storm felled from a local park, a few kilometres from there I live and is the perfect canvas for honing in on these techniques. This particular pouring vessel is the first 'final' from a design and concept period that I have been working towards and I am really happy with the shape. I made a few playful prototypes before getting to this final and I plucked elements that I liked from them to condense into this piece. I am looking forward to making more of these and producing a batch of them for a project that I will tell you more about in the future. The pieces will be 80ml, perfect for their intended use, but it means that I will have to make sure that each one is to size each time."
