Top Tier Diplomacy

  • The longer I look at this the more fascinating it gets. The fact that the bottom rows are not absolute zero across the board. The fact that the US respondents are well over 3% confident they could take on a grizzly unarmed. Is it just a social thing, always responding with confidence ? Or do they have no basic idea what a grizzly really is. Are these always the same people who think they can take on a bear and a lion? So many questions, so little data.

It's a looong read, but very interesting if you are into input device choices.

Kensington Expert Mouse TB800 EQ concept

Babe, wake up! Kensington has shown a new trackball design concept.

  • Hooray indeed. I made the switch because I got to fully "experience" Win 11 at work. There's no way I would use this crap privately. At the same time, my Steam Deck proved I could enjoy my games on Linux. This was three months ago, I never looked back.

  • I started ordering from specialized smaller vendors who often have much better quality products. In doing so I access shops all around Europe without much regard for the country in which they reside.

  • I guess articles like this create high engagement, they are the very definition of rage-bait.

What's saddening is the complete lack of integrity on every level of the publisher. Surely they must know that this is blatant misinformation, but they just don't care.

Stuff like this does have consequences, it shapes the discussion and leads to bad decisions and outcomes. But like in so many instances, everyone is fine with it as long as they can convince themselves that they won't be affected by the results of their own actions.

    Why would anyone come here?

I stumbled across this man laying out the current situation with such clarity, I just had to share it.

    Adios, Amazon Prime

I just canceled my Amazon Prime membership, something I was almost afraid of. Phew, it's nice to have that off my back.

I've been shopping less and less at Amazon anyway and barely used prime video, so I'll probably won't even notice the difference.

    An experimental trackball game controller

Results were favorable. The trackball provided a 60.1% increase in throughput over the standard controller for novice participants. More impressively, it was shown to provide a 58.7% increase in throughput for participants already adept with the use of a standard controller.

My daily driver, I've yet to find a better one

I've been rocking the Kensington Orbit wired for years now and I've yet to find a better trackball.

    Reasons:

    • works for both hands
    • scroll ring
    • big ball
    • wired
    • works reliably

I use the trackball with my left hand and a mouse with my right.

It seems like such a cheaply made product, but it just works so very, very well.

No social media site can exist without a section dedicated to trackballs, the arguably superior input method.

The previous communities went stale, so here is my take on it. Looking forward to welcoming the tens of people interested in this topic!

Heavy boy: GMMK 3 Pro with ceramic caps

This baby is a chunky one: the base is a hefty GMMK 3 Pro with Glorious Fox Red Heavy switches. I put Cerakey black caps on it.

How would I describe it? Typing is almost ethereal, with the weight of the caps doing a lot of the work. It sounds very deep and creamy with the space bar punctuating each word like Thor's hammer, if you hit it hard enough. The caps are an absolute dream to touch, they feel warm and so, so smooth.

I struck gold with this build, typing is just a joy. I will try even more resistant linear switches, though.

    Keycaps with rare materials

I've fallen in love with ceramic keycaps and built two very heavy but very satisfying keyboards with them. But now I crave for more.

One thing that I find somewhat disappointing is the fact that I never found any other vendors besides cerakey for ceramic caps. It's not that I don't like them, but I could go for other styles and layouts given the opportunity.

The other thing is that I would like to explore other materials. I've found wooden caps, again only from exactly one vendor and stainless steel caps by yet another single vendor.

What I would much rather try out are aluminum and glass, both materials I could imagine being pretty great for typing.

And maybe there are other options I haven't even considered yet?

Give me your best shops/stores with rare materials caps, I'm really interested!

    Exit-Strategie
