By WAFAA SHURAFA and SAMY MAGDY Updated 11:37 AM EDT, April 22, 2025

“DEIR AL-BALAH, Gaza Strip (AP) — Israeli strikes on the Gaza Strip killed at least 17 Palestinians, mostly women and children, and destroyed bulldozers and other heavy equipment that had been supplied by mediators to clear rubble. Separate strikes killed two people in Lebanon.”

Underused card of the day: Vivien, Champion of the Wilds (2G Planeswalker)

Original by @Spzi@lemm.ee

Have you seen this PW before, or used it yourself? At 3 mana, she is fairly cheap. There are two options:

  • +1: target creature gains vigilance and reach until your next turn
  • -2: Exile one of the top 3 cards of your library face down. If it's a creature, you can cast it from exile even if Vivien is gone.

Her passive: You may cast creatures as though they had flash.

Of course, she doesn't make much sense if you have lots of noncreature cards. You cannot choose to not exile a card for -2.

But since many decks are heavy on creatures, why isn't she used more?

Stashing creatures into exile is nice. AFAIK they are safe from whatever your opponent could do, until you choose to bring them out.

Casting creatures with flash though, is literally a game changer. It essentially gives your creatures haste. Makes countering them much harder. And dodges sorcery-speed removal, if only for one turn. And

WASHINGTON (AP) — Less than one hour before the stock market closed on Monday, journalists gathered in the Oval Office for their only chance of the day to ask President Donald Trump about the turmoil caused by his tariff plans.

Are the new tariffs, scheduled to take effect on Wednesday, a bargaining chip to reach better trade deals? Or are they etched in stone in a mission to revamp the global economy?

Investors around the world were hanging on Trump’s every word, but he did little to clear up the situation.

“It can both be true,” he said. “There can be permanent tariffs, and there can also be negotiations.”

Trump’s Tariffs Push Europe Closer to China — Bloomberg

Sánchez is due to meet with President Xi Jinping on Friday during his third China trip in two years. He’ll be the first European Union leader in Beijing since President Donald Trump launched his barrage of tariffs on leading trading partners, notably China and the EU.

Sánchez says that what Trump is doing to global trade must push Europe to find alternative partners and new markets. That means changing its position toward China, but also Beijing revisiting its stance toward Europe.

Spain has tangible benefits from Chinese investments, in electric vehicles, batteries and solar power.

Elsewhere, much of Europe is warier of Beijing, joining US-led tech curbs and sharing concerns over threats against Taiwan. Worried at a flood of imports, the EU imposed tariffs on Chinese EVs last year.

Most pointedly, China’s alignment with Russia despite its invasion of Ukraine is beyond the pale for many capitals. Madrid, a defense spending laggard, is about as far from the war as
