In the next release of Dolphin, the search backend (when Baloo indexing is disabled) will be faster and support more file types, by using external projects ripgrep-all and ripgrep to do the search. Merge Request

Yes I use it too, and tuned-ppd is very restricted but ensures easy compatibility

Tbh it would be easier if we could train our own small models on controlled codebases and documentation, instead of random stuff that some people do

And manure comes from animal exploitation

TuneD is really cool, but a weird fix for that problem.
The lack of TuneD is one of the few things keeping me on Fedora and away from NixOS

Yes absolutely true, but also no.

For me it is 32GB of data with deduplication, and only like 25GB with BTRFS compression.
So while still way too much, not really a problem if you have a reasonable 50mbits+ internet connection and a 200GB+ SSD
There should still be waay more force. There should only be one runtime (FDO) and KDE and GNOME being extensions to that. Not sure if these perfectly dedupe though

There are a ton of people using EOL (end of life) Windows versions, which is kinda scary. Not few of them do so because Microsoft has made updating something negatively associated, which is also incredible.
Updating software is essential, please do so. If you don't want to and don't need Windows-only software, there are a bunch of penguin people that happily guide your way through Linux.
I recently installed Win11 for a friend who needs Adobe software, and I think I have achieved a near perfect result, with minimal hassle.
This guide will show you how to do a clean install of nearly unchanged Windows 11, and adapt it with a few free and open source tools, to be less invasive and resource intense.
If you don't want to reinstall, the german tech news channel Heise has made a Registry hack that allows upgrading normally to Windows 11, if your hardware is unsupported.

Votes Wanted: Proposal to allow 2 sidebars (one for tabs, one for extensions)

I really like the sidebar, and I think vertical tabs are amazing, even though really new. I want to make a lot of extensions like "side view" that open a website as a sidebar popup, for example a dictionary. This would be really useful. But currently the vertical tabs are in the same sidebar, so a s...

If you want, vote for my proposal to allow 2 sidebars in Firefox!
Firefox gets vertical tabs and a sidebar, cool huh? And you can open pages as sidebar popups, for example a small dictionary page, or a notepad or whatever else!
But when using vertical tabs and these site popups, it looks pretty ugly and pushes the main site to the edge.
Having a sidebar and a vertical tab bar would fix this.
Current state and mockup as images attached.
This is how it currently is: the sidebar and the vertical tab bar are the same. Placed extensions are unintuitive and popup windows (like Mozillas SideView or dedicated extensions) are next to the tabs, pushing the main website even further to the side

This is how I would like it to be. A sidebar and a tab bar. Extensions go on the sidebar and the tab ba

❔ Gesucht: "Tageslicht" LED-Streifen

Need help with DSL (Telekom line, Vodafone contract), a Draytek Modem and a Turris MOX Router.

I have tried to setup a connection from my MOX via my Draytek Vigor 130 (bridge-mode) to a Vodafone network via Telekom DSL lines. The helpdesk was not helpful at all, they seem to have no idea… I did all this in LUCI, as it seems to be better for this? Attempt to use PPPOE on the router I remove...

Hey there!
I am a week or so in and still havent got it working.
I have a DSL contract with Vodafone, while the DSL lines are from Telekom.
Hardware
- Draytek 130 DSL Modem
- Turris MOX Wifi 6 router (openWRT-based)
Trying Bridge Mode
In the OpenWRT LUCI interface I setup a VLAN with Tag 7 on the but no success.

Here is a video of the setup process
I was able to connect at first but only got a "wrong credentials" website by Vodafone. So while a connection was there, it sended wrong credentials.
Assuming maybe the modem had old credentials configured, I reset it and enabled bridge-mode there.
I connected to the modems interface (needs setting a static IP and the docs are wrong!)

NeoStumbler 1.5.0 is out!
New stumbler application for contributing data to geolocation services - mjaakko/NeoStumbler
Neostumbler has has a huge update! Better maps, higher scan interval, customizability!
It is an app to contribute to open geolocation through wifi, cell towers or bluetooth beacons. This is faster, energy efficient, resilient and can be fully anonymous.
The database is beacondb.net and can already be used!
Neostumbler can be installed via
- Accrescent
- Obtainium with the repo URL
- F-Droid
- IzzyOnDroid (same as Github releases, quicker updates)
Neostumbler now also shows the coverage map, which still has reduced accuracy.

Also ab ins Internetz:
