  • I realise I was a little aggressive and there is no way to know if OC is an AI "artist". The automatic hate for specifically image generators is fair though, since nothing about them is good. They are trained with stolen art, a lot of the people who make it are trying to make real artists obsolete with it and it is contributing to the internet becoming less and less human.

Hating all AI universally is a bit silly though, especially models like AlphaFold, which have saved lots of lives with the work it and its creators have done.

  • The moment they made me jump through hoops to use the old mail app instead of using the one with ads is the moment I switched to thunderbird.

I plan to switch to Linux but I am very busy right now and installing a new OS onto my PC isn't something I can do.

  • English, German and French. I don't speak German or French but I am still learning German (my school forced me to learn French from when I was 7 to when I was 14, but it was taught to poorly to me until I was 13 that I dropped it as soon as I could and the only things I remember are the numbers)

  • Most people can't host their own AI. The only AI most people are aware of and the models that are pushed in everyone's face are the horrible ones. I think a blanket hatred for all AI is stupid but it isn't stupid to assume an AI is unethical because it most likely is, especially if it is a commercial one tech bros are posting about on corporate social media.

As long as more people aren't being told about the possibility of ethical AI there will be a large group of people wishing for its failure, especially since it has ruined so many parts of the internet, with both a locally hosted model or a model like chatGPT.

External SSD being wiped after reboot

I have an external SSD which was automatically mounted to /media/user/longstring. The first thing I did reformat it to ext4. After a reboot, longstring hasn't changed but everything I put on the SSD is gone and I can't cd into it or ls without sudo.

Raspberry pi 5 sometimes loses wireless connection

This is a problem I have been having for a while and I thought I had fixed it but it has recently returned.

Sometimes my raspberry pi will lose connection on a random device. Sometimes it's tailscale, sometimes it's wlan, sometimes it's both. It still shows as connected in my router even when it is unreachable. When I can access it through one device while the other is down I check for errors but can't see any. If left alone for long enough it will fix itself (today it fixed itself after 6 hours) or I can reboot if I still have access to ssh through a working device.

To fix it last time I fixed wireless localisation settings (it was set to us instead of gb) but it being fixed after that change might have been a coincidence.

My only idea for why it doesn't always work is because of a range extender I have upstairs (where the pi is) which is connected to the network using fritz! mesh. I think it's a bad idea since it is placed very close to the main router (almost directly above) but

Nvme boot drive disappeared from uefi bios

After replacing the cpu cooler, we turned the system on with just the psu and hdmi plugged in to see if it works, it did and booted into windows but we had to power it down by holding the off button on the front of the PC to move some cables. After rebooting, the nvme drive is missing from the boot options and won't reappear (with csm enabled or disabled)

Managed to set up an instance using Lemmy-Easy-Deploy but federation is being a bit weird

Is it always weird on new instances, I'm seeing posts from a random amount of days ago, no votes and no comments. Also, is it possible to federate with communities automatically or do I have to search for them all one at a time to add them to my instance?

    Weird issue with lemmy ansible

I have been trying to get an instance set up with lemmy ansible for a while and I got to the last step but if I try to access the instance via the proxy container -which I think is the right one- I get a 502 error. I was looking in the logs and I got this error message

     undefined

    2024/01/20 23:02:15 [error] 29#29: *1 lemmy-ui could not be resolved (3: Host not found), client: 192.168.178.62, server: localhost, request: "GET / HTTP/1.1", host: "192.168.178.57:13330"

it has 2 IPs, one isn't the machine's local ip (192.168.178.62) and I know it isn't my public ip. Is this actually the problem and if it is how do I fix this? I've been looking at old github issues about the same error but none of them are the same problem as mine.

Could someone explain how to set up a lemmy instance with ansible for an absolute beginner

I tried earlier today and I had no luck actually getting an instance running

It would help if the explanation was specific to a raspberry pi
