  • Can somebody remind me about how this works again on the fediverse please? When a federated server goes down, does its content and comments - which presumably were circulated to other federated servers - still exist? Can you do something like a raid parity reconstruction?

  • I feel like it’s a toss up between this (old-school racism) and occupy wall street looking too scary to the bigwigs (who had to amplify racism and invent “woke” as a new wedge)

  • What in the M.C. Escher am I looking at?

Oh, ok, it clicked. Nevermind. Cool photo!

  • Thank you to who or whomever updated this template!

  • I wish there was something that would make Republicans panic, but as their continued behavior indicates, they can't be shamed, and they have all the law and all the money, so why would they?

  • Have to admit, I feel conflicted when I see a new (to me) meme/image/whatever on the internet that's newer than 2023.

  • One has to wonder how THAT was the thing she decided to try to cure it.

  • I think it's ironic that in light of Discord's announcement that they'll be requiring hard ID (which can be gamed, and we're all up in arms about), there's a similar, real issue of who is and isn't a bot that is really hard to solve without requiring hard ID.

I love webs of trust and that kind of thing and it would be awesome to see it implemented on the fediverse, but when it's possible to cheaply spin up an army of bots and have them gain "authenticity" for months or years, even that can be faked.

  • It’s amazing that there are still things left for the devs to do in 7-zip

  • VSCodium is the VSCode codebase with all of the MS telemetry stuff removed. Combined with any number of react plugins it's pretty much the de-facto standard for react webdev (and works in Windows, Mac and Linux)

  • I’m so pleased that we have lore that isn’t just beans and corn.

  • GenX, I am so, so disappointed in us.

  • I’d be thrilled to get rid of them but couldn’t in good conscience send them somewhere else. We need to clean up our own messes like grownups.

  • Here in Florida the county district coordinator sent out a district-wide email and text saying that students would be punished and teachers disciplined or fired if they demonstrated about anything.

  • “Our warrior class”

    Yikes.

  • Kermit on the outside, Animal in my brain.

  • yes I’m in the US. No I don’t like that this is what has come to be. But, for a substantial portion of voters, what they see on their feed or on tv is what they think.

It’s no coincidence that billionaire Murdochs have manipulated the conversation on FOX News for decades, or that Jeff Bezos bought the Washington post, or that TikTok US is now managed by a right-wing organization.

What the billionaires own controls lot of what the non-billionaires think. Neutral media channels have either sold out, given up, or been strong-armed (a massive shout-out to those like 404Media who are trying to fill the void).

  • Thank you. Something stirred in the back of my mind when I read the title. Would have jumped down the rabbit hole if not for this comment 🙂
