Spend 95% of your $3-4B fire budget saving the homes of rich people. Spend 5% on reducing the risk.
Kids these days…
That’s more in Washington. This is talking about how volcanic soils hold a lot of groundwater. The part of Oregon they’re talking about is coniferous and in some places high desert, similar to the Modoc Plateau in California.
Maybe they can just introduce a poll tax or exam to weed out the poor. /s
But the first example does the same thing for an empty list. I guess the lesson is that if you’re measuring the speed of arbitrary stylistic syntax choices, maybe Python isn’t the best language for you.
Could also compare against:
undefined
if not len(mylist)
That way this version isn’t evaluating two functions. The bool evaluation of an integer is false when zero, otherwise true.
But then poor people would vote, which could be dangerous.
I did tell her. I haven’t noticed it since her hysterectomy, maybe it was the cysts.
Wait until you hear about inward singing! I can whistle inward too but not as well as outward (it takes a lot more air, and my range is reduced).
One time I had to wait in line behind this guy who had a very strong metallic odor, it was making me sick. I’ve smelled it a few times since and recently smelled it on my mother. Not sure if it’s a drug. Probably not fear. Very interesting though.
Maybe it’s not such a bad thing if we just eat less imported produce.
Nobody is judging you anymore. You’re free to live how you want to. Most people struggle to find a balance between working and life. So you’re not alone there.
I met this traveling nurse who spends fall, winter and spring working, and then spends summer traveling and hiking in the mountains. I met a teacher who does the same. There are many seasonal workers who put in a lot of work in a burst and then take time to themselves - firefighters, wine grape harvest, ski lift/resort.
Keep an open mind, and live simply. Keep few possessions which add a lot of value to your life. Think of what you want to do, then figure out how to get there. At least then if you are working a boring job, it is moving you toward your own goal.

Those are just sugar to help muscles. If you do any high intensity activity for more than 2 hours without rest, your body will begin to consume itself.
The bees were just lazy and couldn’t pull themselves up by their bootstraps. The survivors will surely be stronger.

The article mentioned Danish language children’s programs specifically. In some countries children’s shows are partially funded by the government, which if that’s the case it’s an insult to the monarchy as well.
The weather is always changing. You mean to say the climate is changing. It’s a very important distinction. And I’m not refuting what you said but I’m having a pleasant and normal feeling spring at my location.

Life is like a garden. If you want to sit around and curse at the thistles and weeds, you can, but they will continue to grow as you fixate on them. If you see beauty and follow it, then cultivate it, you will be in a beautiful garden. It’s not instantaneous, and it takes work. The work starts in your mind. Negative thoughts will blind you to good opportunities. If you don’t know where you’re going, any place will get you there. Maybe a good place to start is finding the tolerable humans, and see where it takes you.
My understanding is that most drywall products are modified plaster of Paris - modified to cure slower. Regular gypsum plaster of Paris is really fast, like 10 minutes, and not only does it not shrink, but it slightly expands. And it does warm up. Not sure if that’s what “hot mud” is in the industry.
Somewhere between ripe and overripe for me. If I eat them, which is rarely. I usually just buy them once per season, let them get too ripe, and make banana bread / freeze for smoothies.

Michael Pollan, Why Mow? The Case Against Lawns
Anyone new to the experience of owning a lawn, as I am, soon figures out that there is more at stake here than a patch of grass. A lawn immediately establishes a certain relationship with one’s neighbors and, by extension, the larger American landscape. Mowing the lawn, I realized the first time I g...
Another day it occurred to me that time as we know it doesn’t exist in the lawn, since grass never dies or is allowed to flower and set seed. Lawns are nature purged of sex and death. No wonder Americans like them so much.
Veganism is pro fossil fuel
Before tractors, almost the entire food chain involved animal slavery, since farms used draft animals. For that matter, even transportation was based on animal slavery (horses). Many of the sustainable and high performance fabrics like wool, silk, and leather are now replaced by synthetic fossil-derived plastics. But petroleum is also an animal product.
To be vegan, is to choose fossilized animal products and services over fresh.

At the interface of water and air, light can, in certain conditions, bring about evaporation without the need for heat, according to an MIT study.
This is huge news (albeit a half year old) that changes our understanding of clouds, and any other form of water evaporation. Light at 45 degrees, and with a specific polarization, has the potential to be more efficient at evaporation than heat is. It may have applications in food processing, to reduce the energy of spray evaporation. The scientists involved wanted to be sure that this was really happening, so they tested and documented 12 different ways to verify it.
Neuralink's brain-computer interface after 100 days

“The biggest thing with comfort is that I can lie in my bed and use the Link]. Any other assistive technology had to have someone else help or have me sit up. Sitting causes stress mentally and on my body which would give me pressure sores or spasms. It lets me live on my own time, not needing to have someone adjust me, etc. throughout the day.”

I think my home network may be compromised, please advise
When I go to iknowwhatyoudownload.com, a bunch of stuff shows up for my IP that’s definitely not being downloaded by anyone in my house (foreign language torrents). Aside from that my router (AT&T Arris BGW210) needs to be restarted about once a week, due to some kind of dhcp issue. The most recent event seemed bad - none of my devices had internet, they could all talk to each other, and my ONT activity light was flickering steadily. During this time I had no access to the router, even plugged in directly to LAN. Fixed by a restart but no idea what was going on.
The DHT torrent thing has been happening for months and the router thing could just be that AT&T sucks. I have no other evidence that something is wrong.
I could buy a firewall and put it downstream of the AT&T equipment.
I could switch internet providers, get a new IP address and router, and see if that fixes it.
Should I try to figure out what’s going on or just keep restarting the router once a week and ignore the DHT hi
Digital globe
A really expensive internet connected globe. Like most globes it would have its axis on a tilt. Except this one would also show a live view of day/night, and also the clouds from satellite imagery. When you touch the base you can scrub back and forward though the past 24 hours of images.
