Yes, that's what happens when users don't support the platform. With Lemmy, there's an unspoken convention that admins make their site available to users with the same stability and performance as the big names but without any of the bad parts like tracking or ads, and the users donate to keep it that way. The PornLemmy team has done its part, but out of the 300,000 users only a single digit have shown support, so it is a you reap what you sow situation.

I’m sure you have your reasons, but the post is kinda snobby about it.
Here's a lightbulb moment: stuff costs money and time, even if it's on the internet. Whatever you get for free isn't free - either you pay to get something from a provider, or the provider makes money off you in some way. I don't want to go the second route, and the 250k visitors have voted with their wallets so the first route is closed. Do you feel in some way entitled to my and PL's team time and resources? Have you contributed in any way to PL, financially or otherwise, so you can have a little say of its future? Or is this a "Entertain me, peasants" mentality?

Hey everyone, since total cumulative donations for the last 3 months were less than $200 (~ $60/month), even though PornLemmy has an average of 250k uniques per month with peaks of 300k+, I have dropped plans for improvements (new frontend + backend tweaking) and will only spend $60/month worth of time and resources on PL. Second week, first small outage
Hi peeps, if you're in Europe you might have noticed we had a small outage today. If you're in Europe, you might also have noted that it's hot outside. The PornLemmy team squeezes the servers running the site between a shit ton of other servers that do sciency stuff, but they're not critical enough to merit a nuclear fallout end of the world datacenter. Therefore, we get a regular run of the mill datacenter, which was not built with the tolerances this Cerberus heatwave is bringing down on us (and we're in the worst affected part of Europe).
So, because of the red temperature alert, hardware parts have started to degrade. We managed to do a database dump and move the whole deployment to another cluster without losing much data (about 10-15 minutes worth), but things are not looking good for the near future, as we have the red temperature alert predicted for every day this week and next week. Fun times ahead. Help us buy a desk fan?

First week of PornLemmy: stats, facts, and ramblings
Hello again peeps, Alex here, the admin of PornLemmy. We’re celebrating one week of being online, and we’re going to share some nerd stats and fun facts with you.
When I decided to start PornLemmy, there seemed to be a void which needed to be filled: a porn Lemmy instance with a heavy bias towards vanilla content, and with very strict moderation so that it’s a safe and fun place for everyone. However, I didn’t imagine it would grow so much in so little time; thank you all, please excuse me if I don’t shake your hands – we know what you do with them.
According to Cloudflare, PornLemmy had 71.5k unique visitors in the last 7 days. You can see the growth curve at the end of this post, so far it seems pretty stable, which to me means that we’ve quickly reached most of our intended audience. There is the small dip in uniques for Saturday which puzzles me: are you watching more porn at work than at home?
