  • Everyone is a liar and everything is fake news. The media reports something? Lies. AI says something? Lies. Your neighbour tries to tell you something? Lies. The whole world freaks out and tries to convince you to change your ways? Lies.

Everyone is a liar except for when they say something I agree with and don't have to think too hard about. Everyone is a liar except for my little in group.

  • Haha I'll believe it when I see it. Pretty sure he said something similar a couple of Stardew Valley updates ago. This seems to be his number one love and obsession and one of these days while working on Haunted Chocolatier again, he's gonna think "hmmm that would actually go nicely in Stardew Valley" and start working on SV again.

Just FYI I'm not complaining or anything. I think it's funny and relatable. But I'm not gonna hold my breath for this game until it's actually out.

  • 2024.08.13

  • Were these comics always like this or have the staff all turned into manosphere dick heads over the years? Saw another one the other day where the whole punchline was basically "haha rape". Used to enjoy occasionally seeing these in my Facebook feed another lifetime ago but a lot of what I've seen here on Lemmy so far has been pretty questionable.

  • The song "All I Want" was prominently featured in the game Crazy Taxi, I believe.

  • Sega Mega Drive for me. We had knock off NES consoles in my country with 100 in 1 cartridges but we just called those "TV games". Nintendo never bothered with any non first world country back then, so pirates picked up the slack. I don't think I even knew of the 'Nintendo' brand when I was a little kid until I started using the internet and collecting magazines.

But Sega wasn't quite as stiff upper lip and exclusive as Nintendo and had no problem with lowering themselves and selling their goods to us plebs in the 3rd world. So Sega was the premium brand here and "TV games" were just cheap shit in comparison in my eyes.

We had a knock off NES when I was a little kid (called a Pegasus) but my first actual legit name brand console was the Sega Mega Drive.

Wish I still had it. When I was about 13, I went through a really dumb phase for about 1 month total where I decided I was too grown up for this stuff and I sold my Mega Drive and comics for enough money to buy one CD, probably of a band that I don't even listen to anymore. Regret it to this day.

  • And not only do they not use any of their money to improve the world, they actually actively use it to buy up every media platform, prop up right wingers and make as many people suffer as possible. More than they already suffer that is, thanks to a system that allows these pieces of shit to amass enough wealth to last multiple lifetimes while others have to work two jobs and still not earn enough to live without hardship.

  • I'm all for banning people like that, personally. Especially if they're not even bothering to contribute anything themselves.

Someone that goes through a community that shares random music, dutifully downvoting everything they personally don't like is probably a self centred asshole. And someone that wouldn't be pleasant to have around commenting anyway.

  • Adult Star Wars fans when kids try to enjoy the movie with dog people, living teddy bears and elite troopers that can't shoot straight.

  • Zoomer humour.

  • Did Trump actually have any concrete plans for the economy or did he just look "unbeatable" because he said "I'll make eggs cheap and great again! Very bigly!" jerks off two dicks

I mean, I guess that's an unbeatable platform if you're a nation of illiterate bigots that swap reason for blind fanaticism.

  • I need to watch this show. I've watched Hazbin Hotel but not this one. And this Loona character seems fucking cool.

  • Yeah, they say that now after voting in the christian nationalist bigots. Now is the time when they should stop focusing on these issues, right. How convenient.

  • This guy is so behind the curb. Doesn't he know that the latest fad is NFTs and blockchain AI?

  • Don't count your chickens just yet. That recent ruling by the UK supreme court came under the UK's so called "centre-left" party's watch. Along with their prime minister shamelessly agreeing with it.

These people (politicians) are not to be fucking trusted until they've proven they can be trusted. If left / progressive / liberal governments around the world were actually effective at doing anything other than sitting with their thumbs up their asses and collecting bloated paychecks (and bribes / donations), we wouldn't be seeing this rise of the right wing in the first place.

I would suggest waiting just a little longer to see if these people are actually legit or if they're planning on 'fighting' the right wing by doing exactly what the right wing wants.

  • Lois Lane looking like the Superman the Animated Series version of Lois. I love it. Really hoping that we get an actually capable and kick ass version of Lois this time. My biggest complaint about live action Superman movies so far is that Lois always gets treated a little too much like a damsel in distress. Meanwhile she was telling Superman to F off and that she doesn't need a man to help her back in the 1940s Fleischer cartoons already (watch the mouth breathers and "life long fans" all complain about Superman being turned woke if we get a version of Lois that actually has a spine).

I'm not saying that she needs to be a hardcore man hater or something, Superman and Lois are one of my all time favourite fictional couples. I'm just saying that she's a lot more than just Superman's girlfriend and should be treated as such.

One of my favourite scenes in Superman the Animated Series is when Lois gets kidnapped by some douche who then tries to get a little touchy freely. And off camera you hear the sound of someone getting beat up, followed by Lois saying "my daddy was a black belt."

  • Yay, more She-Ra memes. Some time soon I plan on doing a rewatch and maybe some discussion can get added to this community as well.

  • I used to use "man" in a gender neutral way a lot. Like "hey man" or "what's up man". Probably a '90s kid thing. But here's the thing, it's not about how I feel about the word. It's about how the person getting called that word feels about it. So I've made a conscious effort to stop using it. It's really not difficult to not be a selfish asshole.

These days, the only person I still say "hey man" to is my weed guy.

  • they encourage a seemingly mainstream version of masculinity

Ah yes, the current mainstream version of masculinity that totally isn't layered with bigoted ideologies. Joe Rogan, Jordan Peterson and Andrew Tate must be seething that these neo nazis are turning masculinity into a bad dark joke that promotes hatred for women, LGBTQ+ people and even non white people under the guise of being anti woke.

  • Yup. Trump and co haven't been sneaky and deceptive. They've been loud and clear this whole time. These voters weren't tricked. They voted for their trans neighbours to be dehumanized and made to suffer. They voted for their wives and mothers and daughters to be controlled and owned. They voted for their workforce to be plucked off the street by masked government grunts and shipped to a maximum security prison in another country for life. Personally, I would never be able to look this fucking scum in the eyes again without my hatred of them being visible.

  • That's one of the infuriating things about these people. They'll just make up BS that makes Trump seem reasonable. Trump does this English only thing, and now suddenly non-english truck drivers causing accidents is a thing, something that's been a problem all along and thank Jesus he's finally fixing it. Even though this was never actually a real issue that anyone even imagined before today.

Looking for suggestions of female fronted / all women heavy music

Posting this here because the metal community seems to be entirely links to tracks and I'm not sure how well received this would be there. Also, I'm open to anything that goes more on the punk rock side of things. I like a little punk in my metal and a little metal in my punk (which is very subjective anyway).

Basically as the title says. I'm bored of my current selection of heavy music and looking for new stuff. To per-emptively get ahead of these answers: yes, I've heard Kittie, Nightwish and Arch Enemy before (actually haven't listened to Kittie since the nu metal days and maybe I should check them out again).

Two bands that I have found in recent years that I absolutely love are:

In This Moment. They started out as pretty much straight metalcore but have a noticeable evolution with each album, to the point that the most recent album sounds like this. Evolution is som

    Accepting my Identity

I don't want to turn this place into my personal journal, so hopefully this is the last post of its kind that I do here (I do have a general question in mind to also post here though). Although I do wish this place was busier so that people could discuss their journeys without feeling like they're taking over, or feeling too exposed.

On the subject of labels. I am sticking with non-binary now and deciding to make the conscious effort to stop thinking of myself as an imposter or invader, whether I ever actually take any steps towards HRT or not. I feel 99% sure that if all of this stuff was openly discussed and accepted in my country when I was a kid, I would've read the definition of non-binary and been "Yup! That's me!" Just like when I finally read the definition way too late in life. And if that had been the case, I feel like a lot of things in life would've been better and made sense or felt fairer to me.

As far as HRT goes, I am very open to trying, mostly to see how it feels. I

    Stuck

Hoping that this doesn't get too long (spoiler: it got long). Not sure where else to dump all of this. It was either here or the non-binary community because I might mention aspects of that. I feel like most of my problems are self inflicted, so I'm not even looking for sympathy or even acknowledgment here, just a space to put this shit out into the world, for whatever that might help.

I am stuck and have been for years now. My 20s were spent fucking around and my 30s have been mostly spent wishing I'd done a little less fucking around in my 20s. I dropped out of varsity and something one could call a stable career for stupid fantasies and life has pretty much just been chaos and uncertainty since then. Especially financial security.

And I'm stuck in this world now. Taking whatever unskilled blue collar back breaking soul sucking job I can get. That I never last too long in. And actually I've been unemployed and making scraps from odd jobs for a little too long now. And that's not ev

What are some WFH jobs that you can learn the skills for online?

An example that I can think of is Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL), which requires a relatively short online course (for a fee, of course) and entails teaching basic english to kids from non english countries online. I've usually known of older and elderly people doing this but I don't think that's a requirement or anything lol. As far as know, the only requirements are high school English and the teaching English course.

Are there any other of these sorts of online jobs that maybe require a short course, and at least potentially bring in enough to pay for the groceries?

    Forever Identity Crisis

First I just want to say that I wish this community was busier. There's still major things missing from Rddit around here on Lemmy. Namely, actual discussion. In all areas, like even the punk subreddit was great for actual discussion and not just dumping links and shit. And as far as gender identity goes, I'm not sure how different my mindset would be right now if it wasn't for the non-binary and genderqueer subs on Rddit being around and just having other people's stories to read and interact with.

But to the actual post. Not so long ago, I boldly and confidently declared that I'm agender. And I truly felt it at the time. Which honestly has just made it so much more obvious just how many times daily and for how many reasons I wish I was afab. And it can't be exactly true that I'm no gender if this is how things are.

However, I remain under the non-binary umbrella because I know that I will probably never take steps to change my physical body or even start asking people to ad

Group Directory (and a couple of questions)

Been looking around this place properly today. And it's honestly looking pretty good right now with some nice theming options too. And considering that I've also been giving Bluesky a go, it's pretty cool that you can even link that account.

Just one though. Unless I'm dumb and I'm missing something, browsing groups doesn't seem that great at all. Like, unless you know specifically what you want to search for, it looks like your only option is to scroll through posts from groups until you find something that interests or is relevant to you.

I noticed that there's a directory for users, why not one for groups? Is something like this in the pipeline? I appreciate that a platform like this is a lot more feature heavy and complicated than something like Bluesky or even Lemmy. So I'm not making demands or anything. Just an idea that I think would make it Friendica an even more complete replacement for Facebook.

    I am agender

Firstly, my obligatory "I hope this kind of post is acceptable here". Now with that out of the way.

For the last few years, I have been finally starting to address a lot of things about myself that I pushed down or away for a long time. Among those things was gender. But I'm also likely ADHD at least, and have been pretty burnt out for years now, so I've become a lot worse at research and looking into things than I used to be.

So only about two years ago, I finally looked up "non-binary" on Wikipedia, and felt like I was reading about myself. And since then it's been quite a journey (all internally because I basically never tell anyone irl what I'm going through). From imposter syndrome or feeling like I might be a fraud, to half assurance that I'm on the right track but still not fully comfortable or satisfied in the answers so far, to feeling or registering dysphoria for the first time and regularly since and thinking I might possibly be transfem. But I've always preferred and got

Gender neutral John / Jane equivalent?

Thought I might post this here in case anyone has suggestions or whatever. I am looking for a gender neutral name to use somewhere. I was thinking about how Jane / John Doe is the name for someone unidentified, which is pretty cool. But considering that Jane and John are basically "girl" and "boy" - the names, it's a pity that there isn't a third neutral equivalent of those names.

Digging around I saw a suggestion of "Jay" elsewhere but I'm not sure if that feels right to me. Would that strike you as a gender neutral name if you came across it in the wild? Maybe I've just known too many Johns and Jasons.

Or does anyone maybe have any other cool suggestions if you feel so inclined? The problem I find personally with a lot of "gender neutral names lists" that I come across, is that a lot of the names seem a bit too Gen Z to feel right for me, personally. Names like Kai or River are pretty cool but also sound like names some of my friends might have named their kids.

Probably on the road to future diagnosis, hoping for some advice with how to go about this

I think I might finally be on the road to getting some sort of diagnosis and learning how to live (although it's still talk right now and who knows if I don't just end up with an appointment 6 months from now). At this point I'm 90% sure it's autism or ADHD or some combination thereof. But I'm also aware of the possible folly of reading into things as far as self diagnosis goes. But I've been lurking and spending time in these sorts of communities for a couple of years now and feel like I've been learning more and more about myself. And I'm pretty sure now that I'm not just stupid and lazy and unreasonably defiant and depressed. I think I just haven't learnt how to function in a world that wasn't made for me.

I'm hoping to ask some advice on if I should do some homework or start making notes about my perceived reasons or symptoms before starting anything official and official. I started out terrible at doing homework and it's got worse as I got older but if there's any important liter

    Batman: Caped Crusader

Watched this again yesterday and I think I liked it even more the second time. Honestly I've got Batman fatigue over all, especially grounded and 'realistic' Batman, but what makes this show particularly enjoyable is that it changes quite a few things up and leans harder into Golden Age Batman stuff than any other adaptation.

Not all episodes are 100% masterpieces but the overall storylines are especially awesome. I absolutely love this version of Harley Quinn and think it might actually be my favourite. And especially listening to the things she says in conversation leading up to her episode was awesome this time, knowing what's coming. A little disappointed that there's going to be a Joker in this universe after all but I hope that at least in this story, they flip it and make him a creation of Harley Quinn and not the other way around.

And the over all story of Harvey Dent of course is top tier. Also with the way it tied in with Jim and Barbara's ideological disagreement that ran

And I'm not really necessarily looking for advice. Pretty personal and about mental health and shit though. So if there's somewhere better, let me know. I just need to dump this shit somewhere.

Just went without weed for around two weeks. One of the longest stretches I've gone without for most of my adult life so far. And this particular time, it has especially made me realise and come to terms with the fact that whenever I've called it "medicine", I've only been half joking.

Because I unravel more and more, then facepalm when I've finally had my medicine and start thinking about how I've been feeling and acting out. When I've gone without for just a couple of days in the past, I've called it an addiction but this time the insomnia and lack of appetite ended in a couple of days but my everything else got worse and worse

    Decided to stay

There's no posting to your own profile here on Lemmy, so I hope it's alright that I use this space to just dump some shit that no one cares about.

I was going to migrate to mbin or somewhere with more features than base Lemmy, and I also wanted to be able to see downvotes, but I've decided that in spite of those things, I think I'll stick around for a while.

As far as Lemmy forks go, I think I'm just going to keep an eye on them for a while until they're a little further along in development and have more app support. I'm keeping an eye on PieFed in particular but for now, while I'm still new here, I think I'm going to stick with base Lemmy for at least my first year.

As far as downvotes go, I have realised that I just do not care anymore. And I like not caring.

So I can live with just not seeing downvotes anywhere in exchange for a good local feed that can teach me and keep me sane in these fucked up times ahead. And honestly, I've noticed that I even like the 'All' feed better

I hope that this is the right place for this, please let me know if there's somewhere more appropriate because I'm not sure where it actually fits.

Let me just start this off by saying, I recognise that these are kids movies and I also thank these movies for bringing me back into the franchise and revisiting such a big part of my childhood. In fact what's great is that it's introducing a new generation of kids to it.

Just finished Sonic the Hedgehog 3 and after spending the last 6+ months (re)watching all the animated adaptations and (re)playing the games, I really don't think I enjoyed it as much as the first two movies. And I've realised that Sonic has actually been characterized pretty badly here and completely tamed and watered down. And even more so, I feel like this displays a larger problem in mainstream media right now.

Or even just general Ask Lemmy based here, that could be asking for unwanted attention from shitty people on other instances though.

    Mbin support? Edit: Or PieFed?

I hope this isn't a question that's already been asked to death, in app search for "mbin" isn't all that helpful.

I'm still in the stages of looking for a permanent home here in the fediverse. So far mbin has really caught my eye because it's basically Lemmy+ for all intents and purposes (at least for mine). I'm not all that happy with what looks like the only Android app though.

So I was wondering if there were any plans to add mbin functionality to any existing Lemmy apps? Even if I used a Lemmy app solely for the 'Threads' or Lemmy section of mbin, then used the web page or only mbin app for everything else, I would be fine with that.

I tried to see if I could sign in with the app that I'm currently using (Eternity), with the kbin.earth instance and no luck. So obviously the API is just that much different.

Are any devs here thinking of expanding their apps in future? Or is there one I've missed? I've seen more than one app with the description "For Lemmy and the Fediverse",

Two bug reports and an observation or suggestion or two

    First the bugs:

    • Trying to edit the top tabs such as rename or rearrange seems to do absolutely nothing, although the changes that you make in settings seem to stick.
    • Changing the default server for the 'Anonymous' account also seems to do nothing. Once again, the setting does stick though.

    Observations / suggestion:

I notice that there is a placeholder for 'multicommunities'. And I think I came across one or two other things that are placeholders / leftovers from Infinity. So it's all good, everything from app to the platform itself is WiP.

My suggestion is that for now, while we can't create or add multicommunities and have a bit of variety in our feeds, what about being able to add the local feeds of other instances? So that regardless of which instance I'm signed up in, I can have my Subscribed, Local, All tabs, as well as for eg. a 'World' tab, 'Blåhaj' tab etc. Is this something even remotely possible? Don't think I've seen other apps with this idea either.
