  • I dont remember about the rivalry between Legolas and Gimli, but the army of the dead is straight from the books. There ate several points in the narrative where Tolkien seems to hint that divine intervention is at work, most notably the role of gollum biting off frodo's finger and then falling into the volcano. Its not just a convenient plot point; its Tolkien's worldview that God ( or Iru) directs all that happens.

  • The first time you read it you're just adjusting to the prose style which is quite complex. I had a couple false starts and then one took. There are good analyses and guides which are very helpful for understanding the structure of it. But I found having read it through like three times that the humor really comes through after you become acclimated to the prose. Its a very funny book in lots of places.

    About Suicide and Suicide Safety Planning

    Hey folks. It's me, VubDapple. I'm a (not so active but still present) mod for this community and also a mental health professional. Recently there was some upset at this young community's rule about posts concerning suicide. I thought I'd offer a few thoughts about suicide and where things seem to stand right now. Sorry for the delay in my response; things have been rather busy in my life.

    Suicide is a super frightening topic for many people - with good reason. As such, it is difficult to figure out how to manage discussion of suicide in a public and anonymous volunteer forum so that everyone's needs are best met. A few issues come to mind that have to do with such balancing of needs:
