Is that yellow and red thing an indoor firepit? How does that work, is there a giant vent hood above it?
It's secure messaging for the average joe. Organizations can achieve this compliance with an MDM, but I'm not asking Grandma to install my MDM on her phone to see my Wordle results. And sharing your device list (plus, you'd likely need ip location for this feature to be useful, in addition to interrogating your friends about what devices they use) with any random person you're messaging is arguably more of a security threat than the risk of some moron linking any random device that asks to be linked.
LMAO this is soooo true. Recently went on a hiking trip at a national park where there were lines to get into the parking lot, but as soon as you stepped off the paved trail the crowd went down 90%, and a short walk later and we were the only ones in the whole park.
The other glaring weakness is that if you invite Putin to your group chat, Russia gets access to all of your messages!! /s (though, I guess it's a real threat with this administration)
The housing market almost doubled prices during COVID. I don't think it's unexpected that prices would settle down and readjust in the years following.
1.7% YOY decrease is a bubble popping?
Phone is the mind-killer. Phone is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my TV.

Anyone that wants to scrape Lemmy would have an easier time setting up their own server, federating with everyone, and reading straight from their DB. No web scraping required. Though, web scraping defenses would be useful against general web scrapers/crawlers.
They typically don't. They do proxy it if there is something preventing a direct connection, but the proxy bandwidth is super limited and results in pretty terrible playback quality.
Traditional currencies are backed by governments and the global economy. Boiling down USD/EUR to "it's worth money because we say so" is many many magnitudes larger of a splicification than saying the same for crypto.
This unironicly lowers property value. Buyers like scouting out new homes on street view.

Sure, but EVs don't have transmissions in the same way as ICE vehicles. If they have a transmission at all, it's virtually always a single-speed transmission with no gears to shift. Electric motors basically output maximum torque from 0 to some max speed, so there's no need to shift gears to keep in in a sweet spot. They just need to reduce the speed because the motor runs at a higher rpm than the tires.
The swasticar is shit, but that dumpster is 100% AI generated.
Lol, and what would the ransom be for taking down someone's money-burning hobby project?
You may not like it, but this is what peak work/life balance looks like.
Lol, agreed. Though, I'll point out that many, many buildings (and people) easily predate the internet.
You can easily do a same-day wire transfer of this amount. Technically there's no limit on the size of wire transfers. There's probably a point where the bank will start asking questions, but car / mortgage down-payment sized transfers aren't an issue.
But, yeah, I bet cash withdrawals are another ballgame. Not least because the bank probably doesn't actually keep that much cash in typical customer-facing locations.

Plex Sued for Copyright Infringement by Press Agency
Zuma Press has filed a copyright infringement lawsuit against the Plex streaming platform at a California federal court.
Title is somewhat misleading. It's not for anything video-related. It's for using a (probably free) photo of actress Cuca Escribano without permission.

Best reasonably-priced self cleaning litterbox?
cross-posted from: https://lemm.ee/post/3610354
Looking to pick up a self cleaning litterbox but there are a lot of options. The coolest one I've seen by far is the CatGenie Automatic Cat Box, but it's nearly $500 and seems a little overkill.
I've also seen that the PetSafe Litterbox is a very popular choice, but it uses proprietary litter refills and crystal litter when I'd prefer clay litter.
I've been getting away with a $15 do-it-yourself litterbox just fine for a while, but I think I (and my cat) would appreciate something that doesn't require daily maintenance. Something as simple as an automatic rake would be interesting.
My main goals are:
- Requires as little maintenance as possible while keeping my cat happy and the smell under control
- No proprietary lock-in (I can use my own litter)
- Doesn't break the bank
- Built well, won't break / easy to fix / good warranty /
