  • To my knowledge wireless charging is harder on the battery because of the heat it produces.

  • What did you actually gain here? With my Pixel 7 it looks almost the same with 3.1% capacity loss per year without taking any special care of my battery. Is my phone an outlier or does it just not matter? And I almost exclusively charge with wireless.

  • That not everyone secretly wanted to be a woman.

  • Yep this is the real problem. I can't find the stuff I want to see on Mastodon. But on Bluesky it's super easy.

    Loupes and scales recommendations?

Can anyone recommend European brands for loupes (jewelers loupes) and precision scales (0.01g)?

  • Tell me about it. It’s an exercise in frustration to find good fitting clothes as a trans woman because most clothes don’t come with a sizing table and if they do they skip the most important measurement for me: shoulders.

Or it can be a real punch in the gut when the description includes what size the model in the photos is wearing. For example the model is the same size as me (1.74m) and wears a size S. And I’m like great I will take that in L or XL…

  • Or like something that got typed by that same college freshman by falling asleep and hitting their head on the keyboard.

  • Your therapist should give you tools to change these things that's why I mentioned them. You have to use them and want to use them (changing your thought patterns). I see this all the time with people coming here who don't know how to proceed in life anymore and they always dismiss everything that is said to them. You have to want to change, nobody is doing that for you, they can just give you the tools to do so but ultimately it's up to you.

  • I switched to Boost for Lemmy a long time ago when It became clear that Sync is pretty much abandoned.

  • Changing habits, thought patterns etc. A therapist can't do that for you, that's something you have to do yourself thus "work on yourself"

    USB cables from EU

So far I've found https://www.xtorm.de/collections/cables from the Netherlands and https://recable.eu/ from Germany. Do you know any additional ones?

Just wanted to share a small update of my transition

I was surprised by how much I've changed in the last month. And in this photo I look so different compared to when I look in the mirror.

Right now I'm at 11 months HRT and had 12 laser hair removal sessions. I'm 32 years old and you can check out my profile for any previous progress pics.

    I made the switch yesterday

Just wanted to say I made the switch yesterday from Windows 11 to Fedora Linux, no dual booting. It took multiple installs though because the first two times I followed old instructions for installing the Nvidia drivers. The third time I found out that I can just install them through the software center when third party repositories are enabled and that worked like a breeze.

And I have to say it's a really good thing that the installer for Fedora is getting an overhaul soon because Anaconda is horribly confusing in its UX.

Edit: just wanted to add a hyfetch screenshot:

    Missing /etc/systemd/resolved.conf file

Solution: I just had to create the file

I wanted to install Pi-Hole on my server and noticed that port 53 is already in use by something.

Apparently it is in use by systemd-resolved:

     undefined

    ~$ sudo lsof -i -P -n | grep LISTEN
    [...]
    systemd-r 799 systemd-resolve 18u IPv4 7018 0t0 TCP 127.0.0.53:53 (LISTEN)
    systemd-r 799 systemd-resolve 20u IPv4 7020 0t0 TCP 127.0.0.54:53 (LISTEN)
    [...]

And the solution should be to edit /etc/systemd/resolved.conf by changing #DNSStubListener=yes to DNSStubListener=no according to this post I found. But the /etc/systemd/resolved.conf doesn't exist on my server.

I've tried sudo dnf install /etc/systemd/resolved.conf which did nothing other than telling me that systemd-resolved is already installed of course. Rebooting also didn't work. I don't know what else I could try.

    I'm running Fedora Server.

    Port Forwarding/Redirecting

I'm a beginner in networking things but due to my ISP I can only open a certain range of ports in my router to be accessible from the outside of my network (something like ports 11000-11500).

That means I can't open port 443 to access my reverse proxy from the outside. Is it possible to redirect all traffic that's coming from one of the ports in the range to port 443 of my server?

I haven't found that possibility in my router (Fritzbox 7530) so is there a way to do this on my server (running Fedora Server)?

How do I change the terminal that gets opened with "Open in Terminal" in GNOME Nautilus?

I've tried every tutorial I could find. From symlinking the desired terminal to gnome-terminal, or using the update-alternatives command to using the gsettings command to set the default terminal. Nothing works.

What is the definitive way to set the default terminal for this GUI action? And why is this so hard to do?!

I'm on Fedora if it's relevant.

    Bayer is discontinuing Androcur 10mg

Androcur 10mg (which contains cyproteronacetate) is being discontinued by Bayer because it isn't economical for them to produce anymore. I hate it. It's the anti androgen that's pretty much the standard for feminizing hormone therapy here in Germany and I believe even in Europe.

Edit: here is the email in German that they sent me after I asked them through their contact form:
