  • I also work in a factory but our temperature is largely unregulated with the exception of offices, break areas and certain departments where the stock needs to be kept away from too much humidity (so, even in those departments it's humidity control not air conditioning). In the winter it's cold enough that we've had pipes freeze in the center of the building and in the summer it's normal to see 100 degrees at 3am. It's too bad I don't live in one of those states where it's "regulated" because I think anyone would say those temperatures are unreasonable.

  • The documentary Dear Zachary: A Letter to a son About His Father.

Starts out as a home project someone was putting together after his friend died so that his unborn son would know his father and it just gets worse from there. Amazing movie, would not recommend unless you need a few good cries

  • I don't know how unconventional my interests are but: TTRPGs, board games, and uhh I guess taking things apart to see how they were made is interesting but only if I can hold the pieces in my hands

  • I usually pinch the knife (from the dull side) with my thumb and finger right up against the pit, putting pressure on it just until it pops off. Very similar to your method

  • In the US. I get all federal holidays plus my birthday and a few extra holidays (like an extra day around new years, Thanksgiving and Christmas) plus I get 25 days of paid vacation but no sick days. In 3.5 years I'll get the maximum of 30 days/year.

Our vacation time is tied to years of service.

    1 year = one week 1-5 years = two weeks 5-10 years = three weeks 10-20 years= four weeks 20-25 years = five weeks 25+years = six weeks

Of course by "week" I mean 5 days of vacation.

  • I tell all the new guys "if your manager doesn't want you want to lock something out, call me. I'll lock it out. There's nothing in this place worth getting hurt for."

Here, our equipment is old enough that sometimes powering things down means they don't come back up properly. I'd rather fight getting a machine back up and running vs having to hear about someone being injured.
