I have a trans sister with a trans wife, I keep trying to get them to move back up to Canada. They're ok where they are right now. But how long will that last?

Edit: sorry. Not less knobs and buttons. More knobs and buttons, less touchscreen bs.

Based on my frequent listening to behind the bastards, I'd say chances of that are low. Best we can probably hope for is really painful illness leading to a slow death.

I have an alt on .ca, I find there's a pretty good mix of beliefs there. And a fair number less tankies than where this alt I'm on is....

That's fair man

👍 any time bud

VPNw
It's a little known FOSS project, it piggybacks on TOR network and several other VPNs. The "W" stands for wank, as unfortunately VPNw only allows porn through to the user's device, if a non-smut site is accessed VPNw injects millisecond flashes of tiddies n cacks full screen every 45 seconds. Highly recommended, can't ever be too safe out there on the digital seas....

Never forget the broad bipatisan support for blind support of the genocide being carried out by Israel.
The current Republican party is definitely the worse of the two, but it's small margins. The Democrats, with a few exceptions (that I'm sure would be Independents if there was actually any point to that in the American electoral system,) only barely qualify as liberal these days. They keep shifting further right to try and capture some of the less rabid "disenfranchised" republican voters. End of the day this is doing damage to American democracy too.

I only had an underpowered laptop that could barely play modern games.
I would like to point out that not all modern games have stupidly high requirements, and I might argue that the ones that do could actually optimise their shit to work on lower spec machines.

My cat has a new obsession: sticking his head out of the cat flap, seeing that it's raining, staying still, coming back in, meowing at me like "Daaad, it's raining" and starting the cycle again.
My cat does this, except he goes all the way out, stands under the one leaky bit of the guttering 3 stories up, comes in soaked, yells until you dry him off and repeats. It's gotten to the point we just lock him in if it's raining. That way he yells about being imprisoned for a few minutes then goes and has a nap until the next meal time.

Yeah, bar progress is sus

They're quite dated now, but Neverwinter Nights 1&2 have a pretty robust multiplayer element.
Best description I could find is from this steam post reply by DrLoboto:
AFAIK, there are three different possibilities to play multiplayer:
- You and your friend play through the official campaign and/or and the first expansion Shadows of Undrentide, or a user-made adventure that specifically allows for multiplayer (not all of them do). The second expansion Hordes of the Underdark might be possible to play through in multiplayer, too, but I heard there are some issues. Of the DLC, I think only Pirates of the Sword Coast and Infinite Dungeons officially support multiplayer.
- You and your friend log onto a so called Persistant World (PW), which is like a mini MMO, an online world created and hosted by users which is usually accessible to everyone, so you might run into and interact with other players. Some of these are more action-oriented with pre-scripted quests, others are strictly roleplay, meaning you are meant to stay in character and not talk about meta stuff while playing. Sometimes administrators may take on the role of NPCs or monsters and entertain you.
- You and your friend either join another group or run your own game in which one of the users assumes the role of a dungeon master, taking control of NPCs and monsters and creating an adventure for the other player(s).
The more common options would be 1. and 2. In those case, you will both control your own character and you can form a party and fight together, but theoretically you can also split up whenever you want to (even while remaining in the same party) and explore on your own. In case 1. one of you will open an online game and host it for the other player to join (anyone who owns NWN can do this, you don't need anything else or any particular knowledge), in case 2. you will both join the server of the according PW team. Note that in case 1. the pre-written adventures will often assume that the NPCs are always talking to the same character as the hero of the story; it's not perfect but it works if you agree that one of you is the main character doing most of the talking for the main quests, or if you can live with the occasional confusion now and then. ;)

Full "It's my first day on linux" step-by-step guide. Everything from updating, setting themes, backups, installing nvidia drivers is in there. All relevant choices are meticulously explained.
Ok.... that's not what you said though? That's a usage guide, not a set up wizard. Sorry for being pedantic, but words mean things, and sometimes if you use the wrong words for things people can get confused by what you're trying to say.

It's the only distro I know with a fully featured setup wizard that holds your hand through the entire process.
Ubuntu, Fedora, Nobara(Fedora fork by GloriousEggroll of proton-ge), Garuda Arch, Pop!OS. Those are just the few I've personally fiddled with.
Highly recommend Garuda, Nobara and Pop!, in that order, for gaming.

Por qué no los dos?

Hope you're able to get something worked out, there's a lot of really beautiful bits of Canada. Have a great time, and be safe!

Could be, and that's what I thought. But I tried that for the 2nd batch, and it still needed an extra 10 mins.

I just don't get how it could have been so wrong. The oven instructions were 190°C for 18-25mins.

Got one that happened just now. Bought some frozen pickle chips from Costco. Cooking instructions for air fryer said 96°C for 7-10 minutes from frozen. Completely wrong. Had to do them at 195°C for 15 minutes for them to be even remotely edible.

Idk if you read through the comments...but the general consensus doesn't really line up as the gotcha you think it is.

Journey into self-hosting
So, I have a rpi4b that's currently running a VPN for family abroad. I'm just finishing setting up Ubuntu server 24.04LTS(I have limited number of USB sticks, and the largest is only 8gb, so this choice was one of size, I can go into ones I had considered before) on an old laptop. For my small business I've also bought a domain for a work email, and eventually a website both are/will be hosted externally as I don't want to faff about with securing those aspects on my home network. The VPN though, that is currently pointing to no-ip dns service, and I want to migrate that to both the laptop and my own registered domain. What's best practices here? I do need the VPN to exit through to my network, so that my MiL can watch UK streaming from abroad(TV licence shenanigans).

I bought a Surface Pro 4 - Update

So I posted a few weeks ago asking for opinions on the Surface Pro 4, trying to decide if I should pick one up and slap Linux on it.
Opinions were.....mixed.
I got a decent deal on one, and that's partly why it's taken me so long to post an update. It was cheap because the previous buyer had returned it to the seller claiming that there were power issues. The seller said they hadn't encountered said issues in the hour or so of testing they did, and I call fucking bullshit!
Once powered off or restarted it was taking up to 48hrs before it would grace me with booting up. And usable time ranged for 15mins to an hour before system lockup resulting in either a freeze until battery run out, or immediate system shutdown, and another 12-48hrs wait to power it up again. Obviously this is suboptimal.
Part of the issue, possibly unsurprisingly, was windows and the stripped down BIOS. After turning off secure boot, turning off the "battery saver" mode(restricts charging to 50% of total capa

Thinking about buying a Surface Pro 4/5
Just putting out feelers, anyone here run Linux on a surface pro 4 or 5? What distro did you use, and how did it go?
Edit: I've pulled the trigger on a Surface Pro 4. I'll make a new post in a week with my early impressions, which distro I've gone with, etc etc etc.

OpenVPN and NoIP not playing nice
I've got OpenVPN running, and the NoIP DUC running, if I setup OpenVPN to use my current IP everything works well, can connect, and more importantly can access the Internet. If I configure it to use my DynDNS through NoIP then it allows my to connect, but I then have no access outside my local network. If I was just trying to access a server that would be fine, but obviously this is supposed to be a VPN.....

Is there any interest in "Homebrew Music" Community?
I've been making tunes for 20+ years, I'd like to post some somewhere for you people to probably not enjoy much as it's a bit shit.
My boy Jin, basking...and also pretending I hadn't just fed him dinner....

Slave Labour - Owl Head

Track I made a few months ago, and a picture to go with it by one of the AI generative programs.

Hoping to drive more engagement here, sooooo....
What's everyone reading? I'm on book 10 of the Wheel of Time, and Creatures of Light and Darkness by Alan Dean Foster

I'm currently using the playstore version, should I be using the fdroid version?

The title, also here's a picture of my cat to drive engagement.
