What's the best low-cost set of bike lights on Aliexpress?

I want to give away some bike lights. Does anybody have recommendations on some low cost bike lights?

Let's talk bicycle rain ponchos. Do you use one? Any recommendations?

I would like to ride more in the rain. What are some of this community's preferences around rain ponchos?

Mini bike pump recommendations for bicycle commuting?

Does anyone have any recommendations for tiny bike pumps to keep on my commuter? Durability is preferred, but I don't want to break the bank if it gets stolen.

Companion planting French Breakfast Radishes with my Sugar Snap Peas on the balcony

I repotted my sugar snap peas into a larger upcycled kitty litter container that I found in a dumpster. There was plenty of space, so I added radishes that only take 23 days to mature to maximize my use of space. What are your favourite companion plants?

The solution to my earwig problem

I have had earwigs eating my balcony garden crops, so I decided to try a solution I found online: add 50/50 soy sauce and oil to a container and leave it overnight. It was filled with earwigs the next morning! So I am setting up another trap with an empty tofu dessert container.

That being said, earwigs aren't universally bad. They help decompose plant material in a compost pile. However on my balcony, they were doing more harm than good. The ladybugs can stay :P

I pollinated cherry tomatoes on my balcony with a cotton swab for the first time and it's working well!

Alt: Photo of young green cherry tomatoes on a tomato plant on a balcony. The photo mostly shows green tomato plant foliage. There are some yellow tomato flowers in the top left corner of the frame.

TIL: French Marigolds only need one seedling per pot

I had filled a pot with seedlings, so the nursery pots I found at the side of the road came in handy today. I split them into their own pots which I will give away to friends and family once they grow larger.

My goal is to grow marigolds from seed for the first time to enjoy their summer blooms and repel pests from my veggies.

What's the best way to fill these holes in my laundry room?

My goal is to keep hot/cool air from seeping between floors. Is canned spray foam the way to go? Any recommendations? Pest resistance is a bonus.

Seeing lawns like these makes me happy.

  • Unfortunately we do have a water softener but for some reason, there's still buildup.

I've been seeing improvements with powdered bar keepers friend but it takes several passes and still comes back unfortunately.

  • A common way to wash many dishes is a tub of soapy water to clean off food, a tub of diluted bleach water to disinfect, and a tub of water to rinse the dishes. It's used by wilderness guides around the world.

I did some deadheading. Can I plant these for more flowers?

  • My city invests a ton of money into cracking down on car theft and increasing punishments. They are not investing into bike lockers or even racks. It's usually a "too bad" even for thefts of high value bikes unlike cars.

The plastic cylinder in my soap dispenser is loose and the soap no longer pumps. What's the best way to fix this? Super glue didn't hold.

EDIT: I ended up using epoxy. Thank you for the help.

  • If only my city treated bike theft like they treated car theft...

Growing potatoes in a Costco planter

They've been surprisingly easy. These Yukon gold potatoes grow fast!

    Only 1 week ago:

  • Where do you find citric acid? I've been using white vinegar in a jar in my dishwasher which gets rid of all water spots and cleans better with my hard water. However, I'd like to find a place to purchase citric acid crystals without relying on Amazon.

  • Thanks for the info, do you know what the fixes would be, short of replacing the tub?

  • Since I tried the liquid soft cleanser, will the powder be enough of an improvement to warrant purchasing?

  • These comments are too much 🤣

How do I permanently get rid of this discolouration in my bathtub? (I have hard water)

I've tried scrubbing it several times with bar keepers friend soft cleanser and although it improves, it never goes away completely and it always comes back.

Any advice on drilling holes in a container to use for a balcony garden?

    Like hole size, placement, etc?

This is what I have in mind. Let me know what you think!

  • I don't know. Hopefully not.

  • Great points! I learned a few things.

Power cables should not be coiled unless you want induction loops, lower efficiency, and waste heat.

Ideally, the cables would be the minimum length needed as I understand it. For excess cables though, is there a better solution to organize it to avoid coiling?

  • I agree, which is why I wouldn't use these services myself.

    My friend's smart home setup!

They were ok with me sharing.

Edit: Yeesh, no posts in this community for 4mo, then one admittedly mediocre setup pic and I get torn to shreds.

  • Thank you for your concern :) They're opaque and the same ones I used. They just reflected light weirdly in this photo.

  • Mine is decently seasoned and it was better non-stick than a non stick pan. 10/10 would recommend.

  • Pants

  • Unbranded Denim, specifically their salvege denim. It's owned by Naked & Famous but is better priced.
