  • It costs way more than $5k to birth and raise a child. This is only going to be incentive for the exceptionally poor and extremely stupid, which is likely to be the point because those people and their children are what continues to feed our exploitation model.

  • Being anywhere in Trump's orbit speeds up your trajectory towards death like Matt Damon in Saving Private Ryan. Donald Trump is, essentially, a biological version of "The Machine" from The Princess Bride pushed to 50.

Since the pope was only secondarily contaminated, the process was slower, but he was already so close to death as it is.

  • I think you and u/deur are talking about 2 different levels of control, similar to the difference between weather and climate.

I control when I get up in the morning, I control what job I sell out or stay at, etc., etc. But I have no control over the wildfire/tornado/hurricane/flood/landslide that takes out my house. I don't have control over the mass shooter/suicide bomber/terrorist attack that takes me out. I don't have control over a government insistent on destroying foreign relations and weakening the spending power of my dollar.

Individuals have control on a micro scale. The larger the scale gets, the less control one has. The only real control we have is how we react to the world around us.

Curious if anyone else has noticed that a strong fan will interfere with tracking

I discovered, through various tests and play sessions, that a strong enough fan will cause the world to jitter a bit, and similarly affect the controller tracking.

In my Pico4 and Quest 2 headsets, if I was facing a fan the tracking would get jittery all around. It didn't matter where the fan was in the room (so not a lighting thing), or which fan it is, only that it was blowing hard enough in the tracked area. Playing directly under a ceiling fan on high can do the same thing.

Wondering if it's just me, if anyone else has noticed something similar, or if someone is willing to test the theory on their own in some "backyard science".

How will the changes to the US Department of Education effect college football/sports?

I would have to think that state schools get federal funding, and federal funding is about to disappear. As a casual fan of college football, it got me wondering what the downstream effects are going to be.

YSK Going to a Tesla dealership and spending a day with a salesperson when you have no intent on buying is a great way to protest without waiting for a scheduled event.

Hours spent trying to get someone to buy a car they have no intention of buying are hours NOT spent making sales commissions.

What are your favorite games for killing nazis?

The only good nazi is a dead nazi. What games are the best for taking them out?

India Jones and the Great Circle was a good start, and I'm considering Sniper Elite VR for the highly detailed nazi carnage. Wondering what other nazi-killing favorites are out there.

Or get him in touch with Hawk T'ua Girl. Either way, he deserves it.

What other kinds of things can period-tracker apps be used for?

I'm not familiar with how they work or what kinds of data they track and return. Would they be useful to track things like plant feeder changes, cpap cleaning schedules, ant farm maintenance...

Can you think useful alternative applications and life hacks for these apps?

edit: I know that there are alternative scheduling apps for virtually any need. That's not the point. I like finding new and useful ways to use existing things.

It's breast cancer awareness month which got me thinking.... How do mammograms work for women with small breasts?

I'm aware that mammogram machines are torture devices designed by pancake enthusiasts, but I don't know if I ever thought about how it works for women with smaller breasts, and where that threshold is. Are mammograms only effective for B-cups and bigger (for example)? Are smaller breasts limited to manual exam and/or sonogram imaging?

Also, are there any correlations between tumor characteristics and breast size? i.e. are lumps in smaller breasts more dense than those in larger breasts? Are there different things to consider when doing a self exam if you have large vs. small breasts (will issues present differently based on breast size)?

Finally, guys, breast cancer isn't just for women. Get yourself a bit of knowledge about it in dudes so you know what to keep an eye out for.

Which image generator/manipulator allows uploading a photo then modifying it via text prompt?

I just moved into a new place and would like to take pictures of various areas and have ai adjust them based on input text.

For example, I'd like to upload a picture of my back yard and have ai paint the fence or add a shed or see if a new tree would look ok.

I've tried the GPT free image service, but it doesn't use the picture I provide, just creates an image based on my text prompt.

Can someone point me in the right direction?

Has anyone been on the Star Trek cruise and have some advice for a first-timer?

I'm fed on the 2025 cruise with my buddy, thanks to our scheming wives, and am curious if there is any advice or "pro-moves" we should know about.

Also, if you'd just like to share your experiences, that'd be cool, too.

Feature/Option request: An overlay, when replying to any post or comment, that reminds the user what group (subreddit sigh) they are commenting in.

I think a lot of people forget to check where they are before replying to things (me especially). Serious replies show up in shitposts and are then apologized for, joke comments are made in communities that are more serious, etc.

I was thinking it'd be nice to have the option to make me click through a confirmation of the community I'm in before crafting a data-driven response to something in an askmelolz group.

Bonus points for making it big and colorful :D

Is it immoral, unethical, or illegal to use movie prop money for collection plates, tip jars, beggars, and strip clubs?

If I'm paying for my goods and services with actual money, but using prop money for tips, is that bad? In my understanding, tips are given of one's own free will and would be considered a gift to the recipient, the same as if I gave flowers or cookies as a tip. I've also seen fake money passed off by religious people that looks fully real on one side, and has church propaganda on the other side.

This is a hypothetical question that came up when assembling a gag gift for my kid from my parent. I don't plan on doing it (though, there are some instances where it'd be VERY tempting...), but it does make me curious.
