I'm Buckminster Burkeswood (I'm also, mr.prol1f1c), and I live in the layer above this one, the part you mistake for déjà vu. I used to be indecisive, but now I'm not so sure.

  • No worries, brother. I appreciate you updating your comment, so ur awesome in my book.

But everyone going around saying stuff like that everytime something new is dropped, is making people less inclined to create original content for Lemmy.

Lemmy as the potential to be amazing and original and cutting edge, in art, lit, everything. But to do that, people have to be more accepting. IMHO. But I'm doing my part by creating and posting original content every day. And I hope others will as well. Not just to this community, but others too.

  • I loved your comment, and hope others see it as well, because I agree with you. Kind words seem to be a rarity these days on Lemmy, which is ironic since many were hoping this would be a less toxic place than Reddit.

So thank you for your kind words.

  • My entire "gimmick" is not about AI conspiracies. The Lemmy part is because I created this comic specifically as a Lemmy-only comic for my own community. The ai conspiracies is because it's a current subject everywhere.

I draw plenty of other comics about other subjects, my other art name is mr.prol1f1c and I have many comics posted from with name in my comics community: !Cartoons@reddthat.com

Also, how have I spammed? I post to my own community and one other comics community. I don't copy my comics to this community, another poster does. Please tell me how that counts as spamming.

  • First pic is my pencil sketch.

Then I ink over it. I legit showed you how I erased the background. I used the erase tool (the tiny square you see in that image), adjusted brightness/contrast, then levels, then I convert to black and white. Photopea is online and free. Take a pic into it and you can open it right now and see for yourself.

I not here to teach people how to use Photopea or how to draw; there are tutorials out there for that. And they are free.

I posted for other cartoonists who might wanna make the leap from sketchbook to Lemmy, and I showed that it doesn't take any money to do it. I don't even scan my comics, I take pics of my drawings with my phone and take into Photopea (Free photoshop alternative) and I am on Linux Mint (Free) operating system.

I gave you a step-by-step process and you are still no convinced. That least me to believe you will never be convinced. And that's fine. I take it that you are not a cartoonist then, because nothing I have shown is mysterious to people who do this.

  • Thank you!

  • The fonts I use for this comic are Comic Relief bold (in Photopea), and that has been discussed too here with proof and screenshots: https://reddthat.com/comment/24099891

To be honest, it's not my fav font. I also tried Patrick Handwritten, but it doesn't look great at smaller sizes. Every comic font I have used, when I save as a .jpg the spacing gets weird. I'm slowly switching over to GIMP, so maybe it's just a Photopea problem.

I could just use some random sans serif font, but I don't like how they look, so I try to stick with fonts that at least look comic-ish.

I don't hand letter. Never have in my whole comics career. Also, many times I change the text right before I finish. I spend more time on the writing than I do the drawing. lol

  • Oh, well they are both featured in my comm, !Cartoons@reddthat.com

Not sure why the direct links don't work for you. They work fine for me. Sorry.

  • My goal is to have people see my stuff. People liking it or not is out of my hands. Even an insult means they saw it. So I took the win! Especially if they are 'insulting' me by comparing me to a comic that has sold 13 million comics worldwide. (Yes, I did realize the guy was insulting me lol)

I'm not seeing the user post his comics, so I can't really leave him a comment on his comic, so...

Plus, I don't even hate 'Family Circus.' I'm old, so I actually read the comics pages from the newspaper when my dad would give them to me after he read them. And I liked the comic better than 'Blondie,' so I'm fine with the comparison. :)

And in another comm, people are telling how much I suck and that I use AI to create my comics, then I show them pics of my workflow and how I'm doing it, and then they call me a spammer. Even tho I only post to my own community and one other comics community.

So Lemmy isn't the most friendly and welcoming space for artists. Lately, Lemmy seems to be mostly a mix of extremely angry politics talk, and talking about how everything on earth is AI now. I was even called a bot when I replied to something....sigh...

I don't care tho, I'll keep posting because I think we have the potential to be something awesome! People have to post different content tho, and I'm just trying to be the change I wanna see :)

  • Orders received. On my way to make you my sandwich. I will add pickles and sourdough bread to your body. Prepare yourself for me.

  • I prefer the term, clanker. I come from your future. Good luck.

  • Not working with the jpgs for me either.

  • Thanks. I created this series specifically for Lemmy because Lemmy has potential to be an amazing place for original art and artists, not just a Reddit backup or a feed of leftovers.

Family Circus debuted February 29, 1960, and has been in continuous production ever since. According to publisher King Features Syndicate, it's the most widely syndicated cartoon panel in the world, appearing in 1,500 newspapers. Compilations of Family Circus comic strips have sold more than 13 million copies worldwide. (Wikipedia)

So I'll take that as a huge compliment any day, especially on a Monday. Appreciate you dropping a comment. ❤️

  • :)

  • If interested, here’s my process for creating this. It’s not that exciting and nothing new to the world: https://reddthat.com/post/58923858

It ain't that hard, and hopefully no one is too scared to try doing their own comics. We're all gonna make it just fine, brothers and sisters.

  • And new one posted today, and behind scenes from the studio. Different style too! https://reddthat.com/post/58923858

So you aren't an artist are you? Because you just seem to have a strange sense of how art is done. Especially cartooning. Lots of us change up styles all the time for different series.
