  • None of that applies, I'm using the default theme, I haven't changed addons on firefox for a long time, literally just woke up one day and they were gone.It's not about refreshing because I completely deleted the cookies and cached content from here (hence how I saw that while logged out the downvote arrow was there again).Already checked on my pc and it's the same so it's not a local device thing.

  • To add to this, the blocking features on PieFed are more robust, granular and ACTUALLY FUCKING WORK, which allow users to completely block ml/grad/hex along with the users from the instances.Contrary to lemmy where blocking instances at user level doesn't block the users and you still see their posts if they crosspost to another instance that federates with them.

  • I agree, but that requires effort and that's a big no no.

    I blame this on the initial sentiment that to make the threadiverse grow it needed content, no matter the quality so people reposted from other places, recycled old content and posted non news everywhere. That seems to be stuck and now we get this instead of content that can actually pull people to the fediverse... And people upvoting anything.

  • My only gripe with xmpp is the file sending, multimedia gets pretty compressed and the size limit is usually kind of small which is understandable since the servers are not as big.

    Other than that the clients are not as pretty, lack of stickers or gifs/webm/webp/apng/mp4 not playing and looping, no reaction to messages... It's hard to pull people when they see something and it's not as pretty as what they are used to.

    Also I don't have the hardware and the internet to selfhost something.

  • As someone who had to jump ship more than 3 times, I keep saying to think of their accounts as disposable because we don't know if we picked right or when/if the mods/admins/hosts will go crazy.

  • I must add, the fediverse only caters to those who can host an instance for their country, those who can nurture a community for themselves or those who were used to the internet being heavily usa centric.

    I tried bringing some people here but there's nothing for them (I skip a shitload of posts too) so I have nothing to offer for their time. They are not people who post or creative, so repeating the "you can do it yourself" is moot... And stupid.

    And then lemmy users love to defend goverment propaganda from those that call themselves leftist and attack those who live there and have to deal with those assholes who are just populists shitting all over their country.

  • To me it took a while to settle for a better instance (fhmy, then db0, then lemmynsfw, then cafe and I was happy-ish there, still have my account I think) and ended up leaving lemmy for piefed.

    Creating an account is easy, being ready to abandon your account while looking for the right instance is hard and even then I still struggle to find anything interesting.
