Hahaha I got around to seeing this just now and that was crazy.

Only thing is when it came to Google I started wondering who would gain from the break up in this administration. And thought of Musk coming in to control the most popular browser in the world with chrome and phone OS with Android.
So I can't help but look at this with skepticism. And he'd probably receive Russian and Saudi financial backing to purchase and control whatever is up for grabs like was rumored with Twitter when it came to how he came up with the money
This hasn't been normal times and rules and laws don't apply.
Yeah seeing how elated he is being an absolute asshole with starlink he must be bursting with joy at the thought of chrome and android in his possession too.
Under normal circumstances, but i just have this suspicion that Musk will buy it using Russian and Saudi funding like was rumored for where he got the funding for Twitter.
So whether that would be a better situation I guess is up to interpretation.
Non profit under this US administration who's mantra is what rules? Seems highly optimistic. I see it being more likely that Musk takes the opportunity to try and get the most popular browser and phone OS that is used world wide.
That regular people would stop using chrome if it turned into xhrome is highly unlikely. These are people who browse without adblocker, use facebook, Instagram, TikTok, Twitter, and buy Amazon echos. It'd just lead to Doge influencing the direction of xhromium based browsers.
If that happened which would not surprise me with how ridiculous US government has been I'd be open to using Samsung's Tizen over Doge controlled and influenced Xdroid.
Xoogle and Xdroid run by doge.
NFT grifter kevin rose.
I remember when Chinese phones used to have a thriving custom rom scene. Then one by one they started locking their crap down or making tools available for it poor enough that custom rom support died out.
In the past would be celebrating. Now I start wondering what is the worst outcome of this, and I see musk using this opportunity to buy and control the most popular browser on the market.
I wouldn't expect much from a grifter who was involved in nfts.
Proton marketing itself on privacy while recently calling out the danger of tech oligarchs makes their decision to leave Mastodon and keep using Twitter very confusing. Lot of mixed signals.
Yeah and their battery tech is just far beyond other countries. Was the main driver in convincing me to sell off Tesla and move to BYD couple months ago.
I moved out of Tesla to BYD stocks couple months ago just based on the output and price of their cars and feeling that tariffs aren't going to keep them out forever. Looking good so far.
Even huge companies like Google have encountered roadblocks trying to expand broadband services because of regulations.
PC launchers though is one that can be started even by you on Windows or Linux with the difficulty being getting customers as opposed to whether you are even allowed to make a launcher in the first place.
Companies still fear piracy so DRM isn't going anywhere, and companies are still reluctant to release games on PC.
Hate of monopolies is one I have when a company uses their position to make products worse than it was before like Sony and Nintendo moving to charging for multiplayer. And it's a monopoly on a platform they don't control. There's no regulatory body preventing launchers from popping up like broadband expansion being blocked by government lobbying like traditional monopolies.
When steam shifts in bad direction I'll complain too. For now I haven't found reason to complain about Steam. I like the product Steam offers simple as that. I don't care about the personalities of the CEO or how much money it makes. It's not some checkmark of X is Y so must hate.
But people here don't really care that much about celebrities being here and maybe not even their username being unique. Could probably be anon1, anon2, etc and it wouldn't matter that much, since real identity is probably not a draw for them. Focus on regular people wanting the userbase to want to use fediverse rather than celebrities which is an off-putting first impression and point of sale for lot of people here.
You need to pivot is what I'm saying to achieve what you want.
I'm not here for celebrities and they will always flock to centralized platforms anyways, since they are all about the views.
Sailing is so much better than managing when to stop and continue payment for the dozens of streaming services.
Option to alphabetize Filters/Community filters
Would make it easier to keep track of what filters I have in place and delete duplicates
Block specific communities on an instance locally
I've liked using the keyword filtering for communities, but sometimes some keywords are too broad so that's when I'd like to be able to filter out the specific community instance so an example being community@instance
It's something I came across on Boost which I liked. It's called mute there. Would help keep specific communities from popping up when I'm browsing as a guest on an instance where I'm unable to use the account based community filtering.
Connect settings export function
I would like to be able to export the settings I have for Connect so in case I ever have to reinstall this app I can restore all the settings I had for it instead of redoing everything manually.
Community keyword based filtering is amazing
Not something I've seen even in a reddit app before. So the first of its kind I've encountered.
Incredible and makes browsing /c/all so much better, and I don't have to individually block new versions of communities anymore.
And ability to change view between list and card without having to go into settings is also fantastic.
keyword based community blocking
So it blocks communities with certain keywords in them like anything containing 'meme' as an example.
Would be an amazing feature, since blocking communities becomes wack a mole with the amount of duplicate community names that pop up from different instances.
For link submission threads an option to copy link of the article or video or share it
Currently have to open them, but would be nice to able to skip a step.
Setting to not automatically display images in comments section
Ability to toggle between list and card view for posts on the fly without having to go into settings
Maybe view switch option could be in hamburger menu
Hold down on hyperlinks to be able to see the full url
Like an example would be this url. It would be nice to be able to check where a link goes to before committing to clicking it and being sent to the url provided.
I love that you can add instances and view them without having to sign into an account for that instance
Browsing locally through it to find new communities that might not have been added to the instance I use has been very helpful.
It's a killer feature I keep using and has me coming back to liftoff.
Ability to filter communities and keywords throughout app
App is great now. And I like being able to add other instances and being able to view all or local from that instance to find new communities to subscribe too.
Only thing I've been missing has been blocking is only effective for the instance or instances you are logged into, so having something that filters everything without account dependency would be great.
Filter and subscription feed that functions indepent of an account
My instance lemmy.one was down with no status updates for several days. And made realize that I'll probably need multiple accounts should an instance I use disappear. Or a more feature rich accountless experience if I decide to just wait for my instance to come back online as I lurk on another instance.
So seems useful to be able to have a subscription feed and filter list that can function without an account, which would make swapping accounts be a more consistent experience in the event there is a need for account migration due to instance being down or completely disappearing as some people have already experienced and lost their sub list in the process.
Like example of an app with a good accountless experience is Stealth for Reddit. It has no account sign in, but lets users have a personal subscription feed and save function which can be exported to a json file.
What are good not too crazy expensive 60-65% options these days?
Looking for something that has qmk/vial support, hot swap, and in the price range of my first and only keyboard that was the kbd67v3. I am leaning towards wanting to try 60% unless 65% has better affordable options.
Already got cherry mx caps, and switches I like, so just need everything else.
How insecure are Android phones once they stop getting security updates?
Is it still safe to use as long as apps continue to be updated and is supported by the play store?
How long would you say someone could safely use an Android phone that no longer gets security updates for?

What is a good wooden wrist rest that isn't too expensive?
I saw the glorious gaming wooden wrist rest but not a fan of the logo. Is there something better in the price range?
I use a 65% keyboard so don't need a full length one.
Should voyager be used to access lemmy? It is said to not be susceptible to the recent XSS attacks.
I've been wishing for a mechanical keyboard with hot swap and qmk that has a trackpad like the Logitech k400
I like how long the battery lasts on the k400, the range, and it's such a nice accessory for when I'm on the couch and navigating my PC from the television. Having trackpad right there is great too.
But, the typing experience is really lacking. Has there been any quality options to this?
