  • You're good :) I agree with your advice as well. For trans people, there's a lot to consider, like whether they will be accepting of our transition. I live far away from where I lived pre transition so it doesn't come up a lot for me, but it's a measured decision whenever situations come up.

  • Men control the legal system, the financial system, and the institutions of the state. Women have been pushing for radical social change since the late 19th century. Men are and have always been the resisting force against women's rights. Men, in the sense of the class of men. Individual men can be and are sometimes feminists. Patriarchy means that the class of men is privileged to the disadvantage of the class of women.

The system by which boys are indoctrinated into an ideology of male superiority starts at birth. Young children are subjected to highly gendered worlds, where boys are literally not held accountable for their actions towards girls. Because of justifications like "boys will be boys," which this post is about. Boys and men should be held accountable for their actions.

  • Of course not. But that narrative is easily applied to tariffs. In political ideologies like fascism which promote centralized authorities not only on morality but on reality itself, what is real is far less important than what the narrative is.

They already doubt all information provided by any source other than their fascist authorities. What any other source has to say on the matter is irrelevant to them. "The entire world is a gigantic global conspiracy against fascism. All non-fascist media lies incessantly to discredit fascism." Any non fascist academic institutions, non fascist news sources, non fascist people, and non fascist organizations will by default be assumed to be lying. The very notion that any information provided to them by anything outside of the fascist sphere of influence could be true is impossible to them. They are not scientists, nor are they economists, nor are they academics. Ask them what tariffs do, and they'll say, "Make everyone else pay America our fair share." That's what the fascist authority has told them. They believe it unquestionably.

Are there non-ardent fascists who support fascism but oppose the tariffs, like investment firms and individual educated citizens? Sure. But we're talking about fascism as it inflicts its ideology as a world view. Those who truly believe Donald Trump to be a good person, a messianic like figure sent from heaven. Those who voted for him not for any benefit they indirectly believed he'd give them (like tax cuts for the wealthy), but purely because they are true hearted fascists. They believe in white supremacy and in Christian nationalism. They want to make America a white christian ethnostate. Whether they state it openly or not, whether they believe that's what their motivations are or not. Racism, christian nationalism, misogyny, and xenophobia these are the only material things he has to offer these people.

So when he says that tariffs do x y and z, he could be saying anything, and they will most likely believe it. If the economy tanks, it couldn't be because of him. He will blame someone like Biden and the deep state (jewish people), and they'll believe him.

  • Fascists are nothing if not predictable. Tariffs arise naturally from far-right ultranationalism. There's a few reasons for this.

One is that it plays directly into notions of national/racial exceptionalism. "Our country/race is better than all the rest. Other nations/races should have to pay exorbitant fees just to do business with us."

Second is that it severs ties with international mechanisms of diplomacy and peacekeeping. It serves as a convenient way to detach a state from its allies (who stand in the way of its conquests). This is typified by events like the Japanese Empire's withdrawal from the League of Nations, in that case not over tariffs but a war of conquest, but tariffs can provide similar opportunities to break apart treaties and start preparing a populace for the conditions of all out war.

Thirdly is that it stops trade with other nations. This forces manufacturing facilities to be bolstered in the nation, isolationism. This means that once all-out war is declared, the nation has the full-scale production facilities to create machines of war at the pace required to sustain large-scale conflicts. This creates the precarious situation of having more production than you do resources (because you can't trade for them anymore), but this problem is solved by conquering territories rich in natural resources.

And fourth, it serves as a direct prelude to declaring all out war. Trade wars are nearly always present prior to full-scale conflicts in modern history. Both Nazi Germany and the fascist Empire of Japan were widely sanctioned internationally in the years leading up to the Western, Eastern, and Pacific fronts of World War 2. These trade wars actually served fascist interests in so far as they made the lives of their citizens already feel constrained and pressured. An escalation to all-out conflict wasn't that great a change when already all their sons were being drafted and common household goods were becoming scarce and rationed.

Trump is not original. We've seen these events play out before under a variety of different circumstances. The move of economically isolating the United States from the rest of the world perfectly serves the fascist conquering aspirations of his Christian white nationalist voting base. They'll grumble about cost of goods, but they lap up his ultranationalist "making the world pay us" rhetoric like they're dying of thirst.

  • Mm. Very America centric of you to believe that no one should care if America commits or supports genocide in other countries.

  • It's definitely possible they're amplifying these developments to maintain confidence in the Chinese market, but I doubt they're outright lying about the discoveries. I think it's also likely that some of what they've been talking about has been in development for a while and that China is choosing now to make big reveals about them.

  • I think a big part of this miscommunication was the language used earlier, like civil service and conscientious objectors. In a system like you've described, i don't think that having that as an option is necessarily a bad thing so long as it is voluntary. There are lots of benefits to programs that incentivise community service. I don't particularly like the way we recruit high schoolers into the military already, I genuinely just think a lot of the practice is manipulative and misleading. But so long as it is voluntary, it is what it is.

  • I was heated, sure. I responded to the notion that conscription can or should be brought here the same way I would if someone said "times are tough were going to have to start using slave labor to save the economy." Mandatory enlistment, forcing everyone in society to join the military, is equivalent to that, in my opinion. It is one of the most objectionable things any society has ever done, in my opinion.

  • Thanks for ignoring my whole comment. If you're defeatist, you've decided that it's all over, then stay out of the conversation. Your genocide defending commentary is not required or requested. If you're not done, you're not defeatist then demand that your political party do better.

  • I mean I mostly agree. The subject of the post is the possible candidate of a 2028 election.

  • We're ideological allies in so far as defending queer rights. Even in so far as being willing to personally involve myself in defending them, little that someone of my physiology can do. That isn't the same thing as conscription though.

  • Conscription is authoritarian, definitionally. Education and conscription are two entirely different things and it is wildly disingenuous to try and equate them.

Cute line, I'm not trolling though. If you're unwilling to defend your position then just stop responding, stop making a spectacle of yourself.

  • Harris would not have eased Israel, she herself said as much.

This comment isn't about the 2024 election, it's about the next one. Can the DNC not provide a candidate who refuses to arm a military committing genocide?

  • Can they put forward a candidate who doesn't want to play an active role in arming a genocide? Is that just too much to ask? Genuinely asking, cause it kind of sounds like that's what youre trying to say. 2024 election is done, it's over. This is about what comes next.

  • I never said anything about incarceration for skipping school. Skipping school and refusing the draft are 2 entirely different things.

If you can't or don't want to defend your position, you're not obligated to do so.

  • Putting someone in prison for refusing to do labor for the state is violence, yes. Definitionally. I don't even know where to go with this conversation if you don't understand that incarceration is violence.

Do you think the draft is a suggestion? Do you think that in countries with the draft that refusing involuntary servitude is like... optional? Just a pat on the wrist and off you go? They incarcerate you at best, and in its most vile instances they literally shoot you.

Involuntary servitude is involuntary servitude no matter whether it's being forced to work under inhumane conditions in a factory or being forced to do community labor. It's wrong. I'll happily plant trees given the choice to do so, but no, the state does not just get to force me to do labor for it.

Nationalism is the basis for a lot of what you've said about Canada yes. Even going so far as to say I don't deserve to have rights because of my strong objection of the draft. No community labor isn't itself nationalism, but Canada isn't my community. My community is the people around me, Canada is the state whose borders I was born within.

Don't even know what you're on about with ghosts or ptsd. My opposition to mandatory enlistment and involuntary servitude is not a mental illness? Unless you want to point out what exactly it is that I'm invoking, it's probably a good idea not to accuse someone of being mentally ill who you know nothing about.

I'm not in crisis. Canada is also a state, not a person. There is an international crisis in the form of the rise of american fascism both in the US and here. The response to this is not authoritarianism. Not having a draft is one of the best things about this country.

Bigotry is not the only thing that makes a conservative. But fair enough, you're an authoritarian. Or at least are fine with some aspects of authoritarianism? The draft is a necessary aspect of authoritarian states. It is an authoritarian policy in that it literally places the rights of citizens beneath the desires of the state. It puts individual bodies at the whim of the state. Directly.

  • Good thing our country doesn't have a draft. And I will absolutely fight back with all that I have against one. If it comes to it they can shoot me. It's get shot by fascists or get shot by authoritarians. I'll live openly and proudly no matter who points a gun at me.

  • Education has direct benefits for literally every single aspect of society. It also is flawed in Canada and serves a large part in the means by which working class people are indoctrinated into nationalism and anti-socialist and anti-revolutionary politics.

Civil service is only a thing in select countries. The majority of countries that have mandatory enlistment do NOT ALLOW you to participate in any kind of service that isn't directly associated with the military. I am not a conscientious objecter, I am an anti-statist anarchist, and I am against involuntary servitude in every single way that it exists. I have no moral qualms about violence being used to further the well-being of the working class. I am anti nationalist in every single possible way and absolutely resolutely opposed to the draft. You're never going to get me to believe that compelling anyone UNDER THREAT OF STATE VIOLENCE to PERFORM LABOR is morally justifiable or beneficial. The draft was the beginning point of many aspects of the modern workers' rights movement. It is wrong no matter where it shows up. One of the most abhorrent aspects of society is the military. I'm a woman, have a look sometime at how often women get r*ed while in the military.

I'd happily pick up a gun. I am pro-gun ownership. I am anti military in every single conceivable way. Absolutely I would shoot nazis if they came here and I had weapons with which to shoot them. But no, a thousand times I will never join a military. It is indefensible to force civilians under threat of state violence into involuntary servitude. It definitionally isn't voluntary. It's wrong, wrong in every single way.

To your last bit, typical of anti working class conservatives like yourself. What's your response to native communities? Do you think that native Canadians should be forced under threat of state violence to join the Canadian military or otherwise be forced to do involuntary labor for the Canadian state?

I am living my values. My values are anti authoritarianism and pro workers rights. You clearly don't even know what anarchists are. Every major workers' rights movement in history has had large participation by anarchists. Anarchists are the ones who fought back against Stalinists in Spain and Ukraine. Anarchists were the primary force behind the workers' rights revolutions at the end of the 19th century. My anarchist beliefs are foundationally a part of my beliefs in the safety and well-being of working class people. I am not an egotistic isolationist. I am saying that categorically pointing a gun at someone and forcing them to do something is wrong. It's always wrong. Threatening violators with prison time is wrong. The draft is wrong, and it is one of the best parts about this country that we do not have one.

  • I'm anti authoritarian, and that necessarily includes compulsory enlistment. We can also invest in training and skill development without forcing people under threat of state violence to join a military. I am also opposed to the draft no matter where it is still practiced. Anti-draft riots were some of the earliest workers rights movements.

  • Yes, and I also think that it is wrong in all of those places, too. South Korea is one of the worst countries in the world in terms of the rights and equality of its citizens. It is also a turbo capitalist military state. Yes, I absolutely think it's wrong there, too.

I'm an anarchist. I'm anti involuntary servitude in all it's forms and I will never be a part of the military or perform duties in support of one. I would own a gun for my own sake, for the sake of my family and my community, but I will absolutely never be an agent of state violence. There is no room whatsoever for accommodation here. This would be a fucking nightmare scenario.

HHS has put up a snitch form to report any healthcare providers that provide any kind of gender affirming care. I'm just reporting every conservative commentator I can think of lol

They can't use this to make a useful database of we just flood it with whatever lol

Link for those who feel like doing a little low effort sabotage. I was trying to find conversion therapist info to report them but couldn't find anything. Could be an idea. Report transphobic businesses or doctors.

The executive orders passed yesterday are a declaration of transgender inhumanity. More is coming. We must resist. We must defend our most vulnerable. They cannot take our community away from us.

If you're out of the loop or intentionally avoiding social media and the news cycle, then I'm sorry to be the one to tell you this. Two executive orders were written yesterday by Donald Trump that specifically target transgender rights and freedoms. One targeting the rights of transgender members of the military, another targeting the healthcare rights of transgender youth. These orders state in no uncertain terms that trans people are unsafe evil liars deserving of contempt and exclusion. This is not an exaggeration, and the shift in the narrative behind these executive orders is extremely alarming and likely to be seen again as the basis for further attacks against us.

There is a narrative created by these two orders. A narrative that trans people are dishonorable, that trans people lack selflessness and humility, and that we are liars. That we are wrong that our existence is wrong. That it doesn't matter whether transition decreases our suicide rate, whether it allows us to

A growing wave of transphobia and misogyny is building online. We all need to prepare ourselves for a rapidly changing status quo. You are not alone.

Like in 2016 a rising tide of conservatives emboldened by the Republican victory are starting to crop up online. Hate speech and random attacks directed at the trans community in online spaces will continue and most likely grow louder in the coming weeks. For our safety and mental health I encourage everyone to avoid online spaces that are not strictly moderated. Avoid social media where transphobia and misogyny are tolerated. The effect of constact exposure to hate speech is profound and horrific. We need to shelter ourselves from it as much as possible. I know it doesn't sound very brave to say that but its the truth. We need to look after each other of course, but first of all we have to look after ourselves.

Like everyone here I've been through a chaotic mess of emotions over the past couple days. I am furious, heartbroken, terrified, and sick with anxiety. I have picked apart everything thats happened in the past few months and tried to make sense of how this could happen. The ho

This is one of the worst mornings of my entire life. I'm so sorry for everyone waking up in a fascist America today. This community is for you.

I don't know what comes next. I don't know what to expect. It's serious. It's real this time. Prepare for the worst-case scenarios and do not assume anything. A lot has been said about how this administration plans to handle queer rights. It could mean anything. No level of institutional violence against trans people is off the table as of now. Medications can be banned, non-conformity with assigned roles can be criminalized, conversion therapy can be accepted as widespread policy. I don't know. The end result is it's not good. Whatever this change in power means for us, it's not good. I don't want to downplay the seriousness of what's at stake here.

That being said, as escape and resistance efforts materialize, this community will support them. We will persevere as queer people have always had to. When the systems fail us, we rely on each other. Grassroots efforts will come together in the coming weeks and months. I encourage people to do what they think is right and to do what they

Trying to psych myself up to go swimsuit shopping this Friday 🙃 I promised myself this year I'd finally do it but I am sorta nervous.

I havent gone swimming in around a decade, and now that I'm a little over a year post up I really want to but I'm still so nervous to actually go and buy a swimsuit. 😅 there's something intimidating or nerve wracking about the process.

Anyone have experiences buying swimsuits? Is there any tips going in I should know? I think I know what style I want, a 2 piece with high waisted bottoms and a top with an underwire.

    Just a little check-in post. How's everyone's week going? :)

I was thinking of making a community engagement post last week in the run up to the Easter weekend and transgender day of visibility, but it got lost under a recent promotion at work and a few busy days.

So yeah how was your Easter weekend / TDoV? 😊 Most of my family is on vacation so I just had a quiet weekend at home with my partner. All the drama that went down with TDoV landing on Easter Sunday was.. unsettling to say the least. I hope everyone was able to weather that storm of hate and propaganda safely.

Format for requesting engagement has been finalized.

    Hello everyone,

Just wanted to quickly add that the finalized format for requesting engagement has been decided. A commenter in the other thread suggested a similar format. (Thank you @[email protected])

At the start of the body of your post, not in the title, the first line should look like the following.

    [Requesting Engagement from _________]

For clarity purposes, this is the official way to request specific engagement groups. I'll respect other methods, but this way, it keeps things nice and transparent.

As of now we are allowing posters to request engagement from specific groups of people (eg. gender diverse people)

    Hi everyone,

I've been thinking over how to address large amounts of outside engagement disrupting the safety of our community. As Lemmy is a large space that extends well beyond the borders of our community, when posts hit front page we often start getting a lot of engagement on posts by people outside of the transfeminine experience. Often well-meaning people engage here and say things that are insensitive, require OP to further explain themselves and their experiences unrelated to the topic of the post, or disrupt the safety of the space for transfeminine people.

This is a problem that I'm taking seriously. The purpose of this community as I see it is and has always been to provide a safe supportive community to transfeminine people. So with that in mind posters are now allowed to request engagement from specific groups on their post. This can be gender diverse people, trans people with unsupportive parents, trans parents, people who have struggled with addictions, trans people of

How's everyone's week going thus far? :) Little bit of a pre-holiday check in and discussion.

It's been a while since we've had a general discussions thread, and with the holiday season ramping up, I imagine a lot of us are feeling very stressed and worn out.

Spending time with family members is always a time, to say the least. Getting my family to respect my partner's they/them pronouns has been frustrating and exhausting. It enfuriates me that they can understand and respect my pronouns, but only because I'm binary gendered. Getting very sick of deconstructing the "them is multiple people" argument, as well as the "I'm still a lesbian even though my partner is transmasc non-binary" conversation. 😓

But aside from that, I'm actually excited about the holidays this year. And I hope everyone has something to look forward to, time with friends and family who love and accept us. We all deserve love, compassion, and acceptance, and to be able to enjoy a time of year that should be representative of all those things.

This space is 100% open and welcoming of venting, frustration,

Considering Vocal Feminization Glottoplasty, curious what others have heard or experienced themselves about vocal fem surgery in general.

I'm starting to hit a bit of a wall with voice training lately. I can find my resonance, I can adjust the positioning of my vocal cords and where my voice is coming from. I occasionally pass on the phone, and I work all day over the phone so I do get pretty regular indirect feedback in terms of how my voice gets me gendered.

But I am very much struggling with pitch and maintaining consistent pitch. It's just not happening and even when everything else is perfect my pitch will slip, and then I'll get misgendered. I cant seem to find a specific pitch and comfortably rest there. I'm also 8 years in at this point, I've been doing voice training for a long time and I just think when it comes down to it I might be one of the women for whom training alone just isn't enough.

I've done a lot of research into glottoplasty and find myself in a financial position where I could hypothetically afford it. Most accounts from people who've had the procedure seem to indicate they've had great results

I hope everybody's had a great week so far. I wanted to make some kinda post to engage everyone in a casual context. I was originally going to ask in the title "who has been really supportive in your life recently?" So if you want to answer that I suppose you can lol.

I myself have to work all weekend but its the evening shifts so I'll be fine. My best friend has been especially supportive of me lately, she took me out shopping when I was in between paychecks and even bought me a couple crop tops I wanted. I really appreciate her being so willing to do those kinds of things with me even tho she has social anxiety. Having supportive people in your helps a lot.

2K subscribers, growing concerns over transphobia, future moderation issues

    Hello everyone! 😊

I wanted to make a post reaching out to the community after we recently passed the milestone of 2K subscribers! I'm very happy with how this community has grown and become a place for transfeminine people to vent and connect and share trans joy.

With the continued growth of the community and the recent wave of new subscribers we have been having some issues with trolls coming in to the community to bully or harass our users. Please be vigilant of transphobic trolls and report any and all rule breaking content that you see. That includes bullying comments, dismissive comments, gate keeping comments - even if those comments are coming from other trans people. Report them, this community is first and foremost meant to be supportive and maintaining that is a priority.

Along those lines, please don't overly engage with anyone coming here to cause trouble or to bully someone. It's not worth your time and just draws more attention to our community as a space these trol

New resources added to the sidebar. Please let me know of any others you believe should be listed and I will consider them.

I'm having trouble finding good intro resources for parents of trans kids, so if anyone has any handy please send them my way.

I also added a hotline section based on [email protected]. If anyone else can think of any UK or other international hotlines you think should be listed, please let me know. I also tried to list times when 2SLGBT services are specifically available.

I looked into each resource to try and come up with rough descriptions for each of them, if you think I misrepresented or miscommunicated what a particular resource is or does - let me know :)

I also decided to add a specific rule against all forms of debate or gatekeeping. This group is and should be a welcoming supportive environment for all transfeminine people.

    Hello everyone!

I'm LadyAutumn and I'm the moderator of this community. I hope everyone has enjoyed their time on Lemmy thus far. This space is very much still developing, but its nice feeling like a transfem community is developing here.

I myself migrated to lemmy from reddit just last week, and created this community initially to mimic the subreddit r/mtf. I used that subreddit a lot, and loved having a place to talk with other people who understand what I'm going through. I knew if I'm going to use this platform long term, that on lemmy I would want a community for transfeminine people.

This space isn't on reddit though, and isn't controlled by or related to the moderation team of r/mtf. So things here won't be exactly the same. I want this to be a community for news, for advice, for trans joy, for discussions and questions, and whatever else we want to have here. I want this space to be community controlled and for everyone to have an influence on what this community is and how it is moderated
