It has happened to me on several occasions in real life over the past few years that someone will find out I'm learning Japanese and will just say "ni hao" completely unprompted, which always elicits a sharp spit-take type laugh from me, followed by me practically hearing the ellipsis in the other person's brain until they softly say, "Oh... That's the Chinese one, isn't it..."

Another time, I believe in like 2023, one of my in-laws found out I was learning Japanese, and she just straight-up unprompted started saying like "chíng chòng dīng dǒng" in a very loud and exaggerated manner in the middle of a Christmas party in front of several small children... The past few years have frankly taught me not to look much up to anybody in my family, nor their friends.

A family friend told me when I mentioned masking that "so many bacteria get trapped under masks, we need to live more in tune with nature" — I am so tired. I don't want to tolerate that nonsense but I also feel like she's too far gone to be reached.

My mask's instructions say not to wear it during strenuous exercise? How to interpret this?

I want to say that this warning is just a liability thing and it's really probably fine, I probably am getting the right amount of oxygen even if it is a little uncomfortable — but my workplace just gave me some new tasks that involve cutting and lifting decently heavy objects, so I want to make sure that it isn't like genuinely dangerous to wear a mask while I'm doing these things.

COVID resources in Norwegian or for people living in Norway? / Korona-resurser på norsk eller for folk som bor i Norge?

All the resources I've found on COVID consciousness through this comm are in English and aimed at people living in Seppoland (USA). Especially now that the Norwegian Institute of Public Health reported about a month ago that "fatality has returned to pre-pandemic levels for all age groups", I'm worried that people in Norway will just brush off COVID consciousness as a "Yankee thing" with no place in this country. What to do?

When it comes to "boring music" that you can play over a loudspeaker at your workplace, Paul Mauriat is probably the safest bet. I could also mention Pavel Ovsyannikov (USSR) and Wangjaesan Light Music Band (DPRK) but since these are from AES countries you might be in for an awkward convo if anybody asks about the background of the music. I also personally like listening to folk music from different cultures, especially saung (Burmese harp) music, but who knows if that's going to be everyone's cup of tea.

"The Cutie Pox" is an Apple Bloom episode, which I for some reason decided to declare my favorite episode when I had only ever seen like six episodes of the show (it's not my favorite anymore); "May The Best Pet Win" introduces Rainbow Dash's pet Tank; "The Mysterious Mare Do Well" introduces a superhero which we will never see again in the show but will see again in the comics and other ancillary media; "Sweet and Elite" is not a particularly remarkable episode, it's got Rarity in Canterlot and Dathings made a YTP based on it in 2012, so there's that; "Secret of My Excess" is a Spike episode, in which he becomes a me me BIG boy; and finally there's "Hearth's Warming Eve" which introduces Equestria's national day, Hearth's Warming, which is usually seen as a "not-Christmas" in terms of its winter aesthetics, but in terms of the actual lore and themes can really be seen as sort of a weird amalgam

Edit: What's more disappointing than not remembering the last line is that the song was posted to a YT channel whose video titles were in like a nonexistent like Japonic-Polynesian hybrid language with a really strange looking Latin orthography, and I don't remember a single word aside from I think kieeollj for "flamingo"

Assuming we defederate, how long will we have between the decision and the defederation itself? Because once we defederate, post edits and deletions won't federate; changes to profile picture, display name, or bio won't federate; and account deletions won't federate, right? Will we ask the Feddit.uk mods to purge Hexbear profiles or?

I'll be playing the 1978 history cartoon "Once Upon a Time... Man" episodes 1~5 on Blorptube at 11 PM CET (5 PM EDT) — join me!

I'll be using the official YouTube uploads of the English dub, which means I guess I'll be queueing the intro before each episode, since that was cut from the official uploads; and the outro I guess we can live without, and the subtitles are alas auto-generated. The episodes we'll be watching are "And Earth was created...", "Neanderthal Man", "Cro-Magnon Man", "The Fertile Valleys", and "The First Empires" — beware of inaccuracies, of course.

Once Upon a Time... series has no content warnings on IMDb nor a page on DTDD, and I don't really know what we're in for, but I believe the series features death including murder; physical or sexual assault; nudity; animal gore; dubious or insensitive caricatures; and most of all, Eurocentrism.
