Miracles

  • I did that. It was even bigger pain in the ass than I thought because the files are not alphabetically named. So when one file downloaded, I needed to rename it and add number before it. Didn't want them to mix up. For each, file it was such a chore.

Because this is a fan-made project, each file has at the start and at the end ads for patreon, reddit and stuff like that. So I used some kind of mp3 trimmer to cut all of them automatically. It was not perfect but passable.

I might still have the files on some external hard drive, so if you give me some cloud shared folder or something I can upload it to you. I only know about free MEGA, but they have like 5 gigabytes limits and the book is like 11, If remember correctly.

Or alternatively, as I mentioned in the original post, you can use some podcast app like AntennaPod and listen there.

  • Steam's 30% is the last of their problems, I would like them to finally start actually moderating Steam forums. Because devs of the particular game usually don't care. Visit some forums of newly released popular game and it's full of bigots, misogyny, trolls and hate. It's unbelievable.

    Go check oblivion remastered

  • It runs like shit in the open world. Sub 20 fps. The person who verified this probably played only the tutorial in the sewers. On top of that you have to run it on the lowest settings and subjectively, the old version on the highest settings looks better than the new version on the lowest settings in my opinion, while running with locked 60 fps.

  • F**k Amazon

  • Movies: Letterboxd

    TV Shows: Serializd

For books, I too use Storygraph. But I might switch to Hardcover later. I have been using Storygraph for like 3 years and in that time nothing really changed, improved there in my opinion. Socialization is almost non-existent. They still don't have "profile" pages for authors. If you click on an author, all of their books are just thrown in there together in one place. No filters, no picture of the author, nothing.

Hardcover looks interesting, it's a bit like letterboxd, that's why I like it. App is a little bit slow and I wish more people used it because there is not a lot of reviews and ratings for books. So if you want an alternative to goodreads, which has a lot of users, then storygraph is probably the only option.

  • Enterprise is a bit funny with how it works, there is a 5 license minimum, but they don't all need to be Enterprise. You can get 1 LTSC upgrade license (+-$300), then on top of that get 4 of the one user Microsoft Identity Manager CALs to become compliant (4x +-$10). This also still requires you to have a Professional (not Home) license already as it is an upgrade.

Microsoft is not selling the licences to individuals, you need to buy it as a business, or buy it somewhere else. You can try this. https://www.cdw.com/search/?key=ltsc Idk if or how it works. I just install iso, and use mas command, and it is activated. I don't care that I "stole" from microsoft.

  • People who can't or don't want to use Linux should just use Windows LTSC or IOT. It's honestly the next best thing. I just set it up for my brother. When you open up the start menu on the fresh install and there is nothing there out of the box, it's such a nice feeling. No ads, no games, no onedrive, nothing. The only thing LTSC has is Microsoft Edge but even that one you can uninstall.

Licenses are expensive, but you can easily activate it with mas.

  • I am actually surprised that this isn't law in Europe already. I hate when I go to a supermarket, I have to always check the app for coupons and discounts. Otherwise I would have to pay 30% more for my shopping list.

  • I am currently using Storygraph, but I might switch to Hardcover. Their app is really good looking, if a bit slow, and it is very letterboxy, which I like. They too have lists feature which is a lot better than just tags, in my opinion.

I like storygraph a lot but... I have been using it for around 3 years and in that time nothing substantial changed on that website. They still don't have normal author page.

Why do NOTHING's earbuds need my browser history?

My old ones broke two days ago and I needed new ones. I chose earbuds from NOTHIHG because according to reviews they are really good for the money. Now, their app is asking me to accept this privacy policy. Maybe this policy is just some general place holder for other products because they sell phones too. And they would have browser history there. Or I could use the earbuds without the app. But the default tuning on them is very bass heavy and I need to change that.

I use DNS resolver on my phone with a lot of filters, so this shit will get blocked. I think I will bite the bullet for now but this is probably the last thing I bought from this company.

I need help with my first home server. Permission/ownership and samba issues.

I have been using linux for a couple of years already, very casually, just browser, media, games. Recently I bought dell micro pc and installed proxmox on it. I don't have a lot of hdds or raid or anything, just one 6tb usb external drive. I know, I could lose everything, but I don't have anything important in there, just media. It's a relatively new drive, so I hope it will hold for at least half a year, and then I plan to buy proper hdds.

Hdd is connected to the proxmox host with usb, and then with mount points to lxc containers. Audiobooshelf, samba, qbittorent, all containers are debian 12.

When I download book with qB lxc, it automatically shows up in audiobookshelf (abs) lxc thanks to mount points. Abs can play it but, I can't change cover, delete, move it etc, because of permissions. This screenshot is from proxmo

    opensuse and KDE wallet

So I just installed opensuse KDE for the first time and when I was typing password for my WiFi, instead of connecting me, some window appeared asking for creating encrypted wallet. I don't need that so I turned it off in the system settings, but then my PC always forgets my WiFi pasword after shutdown. So I turned on and created that wallet, but now every time PC turns on I have to unlock the wallet before PC connects to WiFi.

This is first time I have come across something like this. I even used opensuse before just not KDE version.

Can I just uninstall it? I don't have good experience with uninstalling KDE dependencies. Will PC keep forgetting passwords without it? I just want PC to automatically connect to WiFi without my input.

How does Stremio + Torrentio work?

I don't have a lot of HDD space so I only seed torrents that I download to ratio of 2. Recently I discovered Stremio and torrentio add on. It is nice and l like the simplicity, but isnt it only leeching? I couldn't find anything in settings that would enable seeding. If it is only leeching idk if I want to use it.

I want to study psychology but won't AI make it redundant in a couple of years?

I know it's not even close there yet. It can tell you to kill yourself or to kill a president. But what about when I finish school in like 7 years? Who would pay for a therapist or a psychologist when you can ask for help a floating head on your computer?

You might think this is a stupid and irrational question. "There is no way AI will do psychology well, ever." But I think in today's day and age it's pretty fair to ask when you are deciding about your future.

    Survey for Serializd.

Pretty good app, website. I use it for tracking my watch list. It's basically a letterboxd for TV shows and anime.

Fairphone 4 is making hundreds of unwanted connections per day, to the same addresses.

So I got Fairphone 4, with /e/ os, a couple of days ago. When I connected it to my NextDNS I saw that it was trying to connect to some weird addresses, like every 5-10 minutes. I searched Internet a bit and found out that it was something with snapdragon cpu and location services. I travel a lot and use Organic Maps for navigation, so location was enabled almost all day on the phone. I turned off location services and connections stopped, and everything was fine for a couple of days.

Today I came home, checked logs in NextDNS and saw that phone started doing the same connections almost constantly even with location turned off.

Can I do something about this, other than allowing these connections? These connections are probably so numerous because they are getting blocked. If I allowed them, phone would maybe call home once in a couple of hours. I would rather not allow them, but I don't want 20% of battery to be eaten by this.

    Steam Deck @sopuli.xyz
    Cossty @lemmy.world

I just got my steam deck RMAed after 1.5 years. Guess what was the first thing I did when It turned on.

I had some performance problems. Suddenly, steam deck lost about 60% of its performance in games. My troubleshooting didn't help. After that, I contacted steam support. We were talking for about a week, but nothing helped, so they agreed to send me a replacement.

I have to say… The fresh vent smells even better than I remember.
