Albertans 'crushed' by Liberal election win rally to separate from Canada

Cross-posted from "Albertans 'crushed' by Liberal election win rally to separate from Canada" by @HellsBelle@sh.itjust.works in !canada@lemmy.ca

Katheryn Speck said she used to be a Canadian nationalist, travelled the world with a maple leaf on her backpack and once lived in Quebec so she could become fluently bilingual.

But on Saturday she was among hundreds of people who rallied at the Alberta Legislature to support separation from Canada, with many in the crowd waving Alberta flags and a few even displaying the U.S. Stars and Stripes.

"I thought it was a beautiful, fantastic country. But now I'm so disappointed. I'm literally crushed that we'll never be represented in this country and there's never a chance of changing the government," Speck said.

Earlier this week, Premier Danielle Smith's government proposed legislation that would lower the bar for holding a referendum.

“Our position is very simple for all countries traveling to Russia on May 9: We cannot be held responsible for what happens on the territory of the Russian Federation,” Zelensky said during a briefing with journalists. “They are responsible for your safety. We will not provide any guarantees, because we do not know what Russia might do on those dates.”

Zelensky cautioned that Russia could orchestrate provocations, including “arsons, explosions, or other actions,” and then attempt to blame Ukraine. He said Kyiv has advised visiting delegations accordingly.

  • Not funny. I've been noticing this a lot in articles even from reputable news agencies.

  • This is article is for anyone who doesn't think their vote matters. The population of a busy Second Cup coffee shop decided that riding.

Tesla sales continue to crash in Europe despite new Model Y

Cross-posted from "Tesla sales continue to crash in Europe despite new Model Y" by @MicroWave@lemmy.world in !world@lemmy.world

Tesla’s sales in several key European markets continue to decline sharply in Q2 2025, despite the new Model Y, which was blamed for disappointing sales in the first quarter, now being available.

Over the past couple of years, Tesla’s sales in Europe have been declining.

In 2024, Tesla delivered 11% fewer vehicles in Europe compared to 2023 – despite having ramped up production at its Gigafactory Berlin, where it produces Model Ys for the European market.

While this was already a bad sign for Tesla, sales started to decline at a much sharper rater in 2025 compared to an already bad 2024.

Toronto City Council is expected to vote in late May on a controversial “bubble zone” bylaw that would prohibit protests around faith-based and cultural institutions.

The debate in Toronto follows similar discussions across Canada in response to protests against Israel’s war in Gaza in the aftermath of the Oct. 7 attack.

  • Modern era. Living 5 centuries in the past would suck. No germ theory of disease so everyone is ignorant regarding the importance of washing hands and basic cleanliness. Anything wrong with you? Better get the leeches to balance your humors. Uh oh, stubbed my toe. Guess I'll just die.

The only caveat is if you get to know what you do now and can transform society because of it. As King I'd either bring about the Renaissance within a decade instead of centuries unless I was branded a heretic by the Church and beheaded for flapping my mouth.

  • Techies in Europe – who obviously have a vested interest in unsettling Microsoft stronghold on the market as AWS, Microsoft, and Google have upwards of a 70 percent share of the public cloud sector in the region – previously highlighted the potential dangers of US legislation.

I've mentioned this before as a criticism for Canadian boycotts of the US. Every large Canadian website, even Government and News use US cloud services. Every. One.

Frank Karlitschek, CEO of Nextcloud, told us in March, "The Cloud Act grants US authorities access to cloud data hosted by US companies. It does not matter if that data is located in the US, Europe, or anywhere else."

How was this allowed to happen? The minute that law was passed all sites that use them should have discontinued their contracts. JFC.

  • The people that didn't vote against this shit are going to suffer for it.

  • Who are you, who are so wise in the ways of science?

  • The Democrats should never have to take positions or do things to make voters like them

Not when the only viable alternative is literal fascisim. At that point all the opposition party against fascism should have to do is not goose-step on camera, but apparently a whole lot of 'murican voters don't understand direct consequences of inaction.

By not voting no matter who you said "I am okay with what is happening now", and you were WARNED this would happen before you chose not to vote (or voted for the self-admitted spoiler) so all this bluster to shield yourself from reality isn't fooling anyone that understands a room gets dirty if you don't clean it.

Look at Canada. Almost 70% voter turnout and the results prevented not only a Trump boot-licker from getting into power but kicked him out of his own fucking riding. Did people vote less progressively than they'd have liked? Absolutely. FPTP is a flawed system, but that doesn't matter. What matters is Canada won't be Zeig-heiling for the next four years and we can still work towards fixing the system instead of worrying about brute-squads arresting innocent citizens and deporting them without due process for opposing the Government. That is the power of forethought and action instead of excuses and apathy.

Trudeau wanted ranked ballots. Would that have changed Monday's results?

Ranked ballots could have given Liberals majority: prof

In 2025, Miljan says a ranked ballot may have helped the Liberals eke out a majority — the party landed at 169 seats, falling just three short of a majority government.

"I don't think it would have made a big difference, except probably in the few ridings where there were three-way splits, where you might have gotten a few more NDP seats and probably equally more Liberal seats," she said. "In that respect, you would have had a Liberal majority, most likely."

  • YDI - There is an obvious disconnect between your "identity crisis" and argument which leads me to believe this is about the drama and not some passionate protection for the autistic community.

Also, multiple mods calmly explained their reasoning and you started screaming at them. Yeah, that gets a hard 'nope' from me.

  • Same thing happened in Windsor West.

NDP incumbent lost to the Conservative but the Liberals actually got more votes than the NDP did. NDP had 50% of their support stolen only for both of them to lose to blue. FFS

  • Also, wouldn't a minority Liberal government be risking a no-confidence vote for being so heavy handed?

  • Any chance he might self-reflect on this? I doubt it.

  • Yandex LLC is a Russian technology company that

    ...

  • Conservatives lost so badly yesterday, that not only will he not be PM, he got voted out of his own seat.

Take notes 'murica. This is how it should have gone for you and PP isn't even a felon FFS.

  • If your doctor is confident enough to declare it a scam I'd go with the opinion of the trained certified medical professional whom you let do unspeakable things to all your orifices protected only by latex gloves instead of listening to anonymous idiots like me.

That said, if you insist on listening to me then you can do your own allergen test at home:

    • Wash (with soap and cloth) and sterilize (with iodine or isopropyl alcohol) your stomach and a sewing needle.
    • With the needle gently scratch a series of small bloodless paired nicks an inch apart.
    • On the left side leave clean for a negative comparison and on the right dab a miniscule amount of a single suspected allergen on each scratch. Maybe jot down which scratch has which substance so you don't forget.
    • Wait 20 minutes and compare the left to the right. Any on the right side significantly discoloured, swollen or blotchy compared with its respective left side negative are likely allergens and should be avoided.

Disclaimer: Not a doctor and not medical advice.

Man arrested after death of former NHLer won't face charges

A man arrested on suspicion of manslaughter following the death of ice hockey player Adam Johnson has been told he will not face any charges, British prosecutors said Tuesday.

Johnson played for the Nottingham Panthers and died shortly after his neck had been sliced in a collision with Sheffield Steelers defenceman Matt Petgrave during a game on Oct. 28, 2023.

A man was arrested two weeks later and though South Yorkshire Police has not publicly identified him, Petgrave himself said in a crowdfunding appeal for legal fees that he's the subject of a police investigation.
