  • Damn, Norris hit the wall! I was expecting a red flag, but not Lando hitting the wall.

  • I wonder why did Albon stay in the pits in the final minutes of Q2, did Williams (or him) thought he couldn't do a better lap?

  • Je les préfère normaux, mais ça reste les meilleurs bonbons

  • I don't know why, somehow it just feels different to me. Or maybe it's just the state of the world that tries to dehumanize everything with "AI" that depress me.

  • Just the thought of sex robots depressed me even more than the state of the world already had.

  • UBlock Origin blocks the domain cnevids.com on Ars, maybe try that? It also blocks conde.digital, it might be worth a shot too.

  • It's like regular Fedora KDE, except that it avoids this problem of traces of past experiments everywhere.

    Kinoite is much more than that: it is an atomic and immutable spin of Fedora KDE. This has big implications but the gist of it is that:

    1. You can roll back to any previous version if anything breaks
    2. The base system cannot be modified
    3. If you need to install RPM packages, you do that by adding "layers" on top of the base system, and these can be removed if needed to go back to a clean base system
    4. You can switch from one spin to another by "rebasing", but it is recommended that you remove any additional layer first and that you stick to the same desktop environment
  • My experience on other distros was that upgrading in place a system that deviated too much from "stock" would wreck the install. I would personally play it safe and backup my home folder and do a fresh install.

    Just don't forget to test your backup before formatting your drive!

  • I was just paraphrasing Andrea Stella. From the article:

    McLaren team principal Andrea Stella made a notable admission after the race in Bahrain as he appeared to suggest their 2025 car was more favourable to Piastri's driving style than Norris'.

    Stella said: "We know that we have made some changes to the car, which made Lando's life a bit more difficult. We know technically what this is; Lando is adapting to this, potentially this might have played a bit more on Oscar's hand and we are working together to fix it."

  • Well, this year's McLaren seems to suit him better, and most importantly, Piastri seems to better handle pressure than Norris.

  • I had a blast playing Overcooked 1 & 2 with my partner and they run fine on Deck. I only played with 4 players once and it was a bit chaotic since it was the first time playing Overcooked for most of us.

    If you plan on emulating Wii U, New Super Mario Bros. U sounds like a fun option. In the same vein, Rayman Origins and Legends are great co-op platformers too and are both Gold on ProtonDB

  • /s He was doing intelligence gathering for Haas all along!

  • Android has always been developed in a closed-source manner by Google engineers, the recent changes only reduces the visibility of ongoing changes and the ability for developers outside of OEMs to contribute to Android (such contributions were already rare).

    This is explained further in this article:

    While some OS components, such as Android’s Bluetooth stack, are developed publicly in the AOSP branch, most components, including the core Android OS framework, are developed privately within Google’s internal branch. Google confirmed to Android Authority that it will soon shift all Android OS development to its internal branch, a change intended to streamline its development process.

  • I was going to play the first one on PS3 before playing through Part II, but if the Collection comes out on PC before then, I might buy it and play both games on PC instead.

  • The millions of years I was referring to was the Mammoth project the same company plans to revive has well

  • Nope, using Proton-GE 9.27 doesn't fix the issue, I have the same behavior :(

    Games running through Steam crash on start

    Hello,

    I have happily playing games on Bluefin and recently rebased to Bazzite DX in order to take advantage of non-Flatpak Steam and Sunshine. Everything worked well for a day or two, until it did not.

    Both of my currently installed Steam games (Half-Life RTX and Split Fiction) just crashes as they start. I did a sanity check by verifying the game files integrity as well as reinstalling, but it did not fix the issue. I also installed a third game that I knew runs on my machine (LEGO Builder's Journey) and it did not work either.

    I ran the games with the PROTON_LOG=1 %command% launch options to produce logs but as they are 4K, 25K and 54K lines long I don't know what to look for. (The logs if you want to take a look)

    Ah yes, when launching Split Fiction I have some Unreal Engine-specific error dialog named "Wine C++ Runtine Library" that reads

     undefined

    Assertion failed!

    Garmin watch owners: does Incident Detection give you false positives as well?

    Hello all,

    I have set up Incident Detection a few months back with the goal of alerting my partner if I ever fall off my bike on my commute.

    All was well until a couple of months ago when it fired off twice at the same place in 24 hours, unnecessarily alarming my partner in the process.

    I haven't thought about it until today, when it fired off once again, at the same place: a paved plaza in Paris (Denfert-Rochereau to be exact).

    Does any one of you have had similar experiences? Do you know if there is a way to configure the feature's sensitivity or report false-positives? I have yet to find any related settings other than on/off in the Garmin app or on the watch.

    "With the aim of promoting better racing at the Monaco Grand Prix, the commission discussed proposals for Monaco-specific regulations," read a statement from the FIA after an F1 Commission meeting at the Formula One Management offices in London ahead of Tuesday night's F1 75 Launch event at the O2 Arena.

    "The commission agreed to increase the numbers of mandatory pit stops in the Race. These proposals will be further discussed by the Sporting Advisory Committee in the coming weeks."

    Execute script located in $HOME from system systemd service

    Hello,

    I have been trying to create a system service that would run a script on shutdown (hence why I went for a system service over a user service) and landed on something like this

     undefined

    [Unit]
    Description=Run backup script on shutdown
    DefaultDependencies=no
    Before=poweroff.target halt.target
    Requires=network.target

    [Service]
    Type=oneshot
    RemainAfterExit=true
    ExecStart=/bin/true
    ExecStop=/var/home/blackeco/scripts/backup.sh
    User=blackeco
    Group=blackeco

    [Install]
    WantedBy=poweroff.target halt.target

    Unfortunately, when the shutdown occurs, systemd fails to execute the script:

     undefined

    backup-on-shutdown.service: Unable to locate executable '/var/home/blackeco/scripts/backup.sh': Permission denied
    backup-on-shutdown.service: Failed at step EXEC spawning /var/home/blackeco/scripts/backup.sh: Permission denied

    This script is correctly owned by user blackeco and permissions look fine

     undefined

    $ ls -la /var/home/blackeco/scripts
    drwxr-xr-x. 1 blackeco blackeco 154  5 Feb. 13:50 ./

    F1 Exhibition races into Buenos Aires for South American debut

    Which means that the London exhibition will close at the end of February!

    I visited it back in November, I highly recommend it if you go to London. Lots of cars and gear from various eras, as well as nice didactic sections on the engineering aspects of the sport.

    (I initially intended to share my experience here, accompanied by photos, but I have yet to take the time to work on those)
