Tbf, it's a common conspiracy theory that all of them (or at least a significant portion) are on SSRIs. I think it comes from a mix of
A. Some of them were iirc, but I'm not sure who. It's also possible it just was used as an excuse by a parent, or kid who didn't die in their shooting.
B. Simply just the fast part of the commercials that says "if you are experiencing suicidal or homicidal ideation while taking lexapro, talk to your doctor immediately.." and then people being people, that gets extrapolated into "the shooters are on SSRIs and this is why it happens." People are searching for answers as to the underlying causes, on both sides of the "gun bad" and "gun good" debate, the same way some focus on "if we got rid of guns" those that know "well my gun doesn't make me want to shoot up schools so it isn't the guns" but have never taken SSRIs might be more apt to blame the thing they're less familiar with, for instance.
C. Afaik, it hasn't actually been studied very well and actually could play a role in at least some of the incidents, but we don't "know." First of all, I think HIPAA presents some challenges in studying this, as I think even prisoners have the right to medical privacy. And on top of that I wouldn't be surprised to learn Big Pharma's lobbyists are hard at work making sure this is not well studied to the best of their ability, it's kinda just their MO to the degree I'd be surprised if they weren't doing that. Our pharma lobby is just as bad as tobacco about that, if not worse.
Personally, I'd actually like to see this possible link or lack thereof studied in depth myself, if for no other reason than to quell the conspiracy theory, or if a link is found then maybe we can do something about that, I think only good can come from at least just studying it.
The few studies that I have seen actually suggest there may actually be a link, but I don't know exactly how rigorous those were or if it's enough to indicate causation rather than simply correlation, and it's not specific to active shooters but simply "violent crime" (of which shootings are obviously one, but it could be "increased risk of simple assault, but not murder" without narrowing it down, who knows.

With age and sex stratification, there was a significant association between SSRIs and violent crime convictions for males aged 15 to 24 y (HR = 1.40, 95% CI 1.13–1.73, p = 0.002) and females aged 15 to 24 y (HR = 1.75, 95% CI 1.08–2.84, p = 0.023). However, there were no significant associations in those aged 25 y or older.
Seems to suggest to me that at the ages these (typically male) shooters usually are, there actually may be a significant enough percentage to suggest a possible causation? I'd still like to see it studied further though, especially if it can be a study specifically regarding active shooter incidents, and also I'd like to know if "was taking them and stopped" plays a role over "is taking them currently" or vice versa. I think it's at least worth a look, especially considering this study itself concludes:
The increased risk we found in young people needs validation in other studies.

I switched to fedora (with no nvidia or however you spell the company I avoid) and everything mostly worked as it should, and when I had questions about how to do X or Y I could actually find answers online like I could on old windows (after like 7 it became "reinstall for every little issue" any time I searched for windows help. Great.) Did I have to learn how to access my com ports to use CHIRP to program a baofeng? Sure, but now that I know my user needs to be added to the dialout group, I've both learned something and solved the issue within 10min. Did I also have to figure out how to install the drivers for the CP210X to UART bridge on windows? Yes, and Fedora came with them (or somehow didn't need them.) And don't even get me started on fixing a broken flash drive with Diskpart instead of gparted or KDE partition manager, ugh. At least windows is insecure and let me mount my drive bypassing my windows pin through a live booted linux distro to save my data when w10 decided it can't get past the login screen anymore, so that's something!
Ymmv, but your experience isn't universal (nor is mine) and windows can also come with it's own headaches (and spyware, and resource hogging to run said spyware...)

Update on Warehouse kitty, day 7.
Such a sweet kitty. Still pretty hidey, but coming along and opening up. She's play biting me now and it's so cute. Still hisses sometimes when she sees me but still doesn't mean it. Her leg is healing up so good that I never put the cone on her, I think part of the licking was stress which I've removed as much as possible. Picture to follow here.
Rescue from my warehouse
This little scaredy cat got into the warehouse in which I work, and someone had to save her so I did. I recently asked about integrating her into my house with my 2y old cat.
So far, she's been quarantined in a separate room, she's got a bite on her foot I wasn't told about that looks partially healed, but still not great, and so I'll have to figure that out first. I have a cone on the way to stop her from licking at it until I can get her to the vet (who was supposed to email me yesterday...c'mon guys kitty need help!) Unclear if the bite came from one of the dogs inside the warehouse, or (lord I hope not, but...honestly I think so..), the raccoon she was spotted near a few days before she gained entry to the warehouse. I have a pic if anyone wants to see it, but it looks like a lil puncture wound (not exactly cute) so I'm only going to if someone requests 'cause they wanna help (as much help as that can be, need the vet for sure but advice is always welcome in the meantime!!)

Introducing cats, sanity check me.
Ok little backstory, I had cat, rescued another, the first has since passed but the second (Ripley) is still here. Another cat broke into our warehouse at work and someone needs to rescue it, and the duty has fallen on me. Ripley did OK as a kitten with my other cat, but since becoming an only-cat she has had scant interactions with strays coming up to my glass door, but she tries to fight them every time lol. I think she'll come around though.
Here's the plan, gonna clean out my "spare" room and make the new kitten a fort in there with a freshly washed blanket, get her some toys of her own, own box and food etc. I'm gonna keep em completely separated for a couple days, then swap them for a few hours to let them explore the other's scent, then swap back, rinse and repeat for like a week?ish? Once they start sniffing under the door and stuff I'm going to try and let them see but not touch each other (and have no clue how I'll achieve this, any ideas would be helpful!) and then after a

Weird bug?
I just ran into the weirdest bug using meshtastic, I don't even know where to start searching for answers so I figured I'd see if anyone here had any ideas.
So, I'm using a t1000e in pocket/on the go and a heltec v3 in a window upstairs. Both are connected to MQTT on a local channel [State Redacted]Mesh. I've been home for a few hours now and neglected to switch from the t1000e to the V3, TX and RX the whole time from the t1000e. I just noticed and said "ah let me turn off the pocket and switch to the home node," switched over, and all the messages sent hours ago doubled up and got reposted to the mesh somehow just from switching nodes. I know this because the second I switched the room's bot posted a joke, and last person to call !joke was me, 7h ago, and when I commented on it someone said "yeah you just reposted something you said hours ago."
What the hell?! Any ideas? Problem started today afaik, haven't changed any settings. I don't want to spam the SRMesh with hours old messa

Unrecognized nodes?
Got my first two devices on tuesday and I've been traveling around with them! Seems the t114 has much better range but is a less convenient package of course (and damn amazon didn't ship my GPS module, so now that is on the way with an upgraded antenna and a heltec v3 cause why not?)
I've been able to make a few connections, but I had a couple questions about some of them.
I've been able to connect to a few nodes around town, even got one reply, but there seems to be two categories of nodes, some "recognized" and some "unrecognized." Does anyone know why that could be? Can I still talk to them if they're unrecognized, and/or do they still route packets? Can I fix that or do the other nodes' owners have to?
Glad I finally got into it, been having fun and apparently my area has some activity (even if I'm in a deadzone at the bottom of a hill for now.)
Edit: Ok I keep forgetting about redlib so I think I don't have access to Ye Olde Country because VPN and I refuse all apps, but

Help getting started?
Hey everyone, I hope this is ok to post here! I've been putting off getting into meshtastic for a while now but the time has come to play around with it. I have done some research but I always like to talk to real people if possible for real world advice and experience, not just youtube salesman and AI top ten lists. I have minimal experience with radio, but some.
As to meshtastic the research I've done has pointed me to a few LoRa boards, the heltec t114 v2, and the Lilygo t-beam, and also the Lilygo T-deck plus.
I really would love to have a phoneless standalone set up, but have seen some stuff about the T-deck lacking good firmware and so it isn't "ready," but then I've seen some people say to the contrary that some good firmware exists now. Are there other better phoneless devices for meshtastic? Is the t-deck good enough now that I could pick that up now and add some t114s later to expand the network? Or should I go with a couple t114s, and wait til phoneless matures a little

SimpliSafe bypass
Hey flipper comm! I just watched the LPL's video on how he bypassed SimpliSafe's door chimes with a 433.92 mhz signal broadcast from a generic remote to basically jam the weak signal output by the chime and bypass the alarm. Apparently it can also be done with a ham radio but they output too high of a signal and trip the radio interference notification on the alarm, and I immediately started wondering if the flipper would trip it or not.
A friend of mine has simplisafe and he said we can test it when I go see him in a couple months, but my problem then becomes "I don't know shit about Sub-gHz > Add Manually." There's so many protocols even just for 433mHz and I have no clue what the difference is between most of them (though I know KL and Security2.0 are rolling code protocols). Does anyone here know anything about them or which protocol it may use, or does it even matter?
